Re: I was Asleep Yesterday and I was Just Curious ???

The second modern gold rush!! I still trying to find out the approximate time the mint sold out of the Jefferson non-spouse. I can tell you that between 12:35pm when my order was placed and one that was placed by a relative at 1:30pm appoximately 15,000 orders were taken (by the difference in our order numbers). Don't know if all the orders were for the non-spouse and of course some of these order may have been for one of the coins not for both. But we can assume that at least 15,000 of the po

A Very Good Submission

it has been a while... It has been quite a while since I have entered anything into my coin collecting journal and it has also been a while since I had good news on the submission front. Earlier this month I actually sent away 3 submissions at once: one was to get a variety correction on 2 slabbed gold coins--they both got the varieties and at no cost. The second submission was to use a coupon I had for 5 free photoproofs. I had no idea that NGC's photoproof service did such a great job and

NEW BABY!

What a beauty! ....My newest addition to the family, isn't she BEAUTIFUL? NGC says there is a flaw, but I sure can't see it, but what parent admits to flaws in their little ones? She looks just like her brother and sisters. ....Tomorrow, I'll be sending some more brothers and sisters to NGC for them to grade and add to our growing little family of bears!

A Silver quarter in my change

Today, I noticed I had received a 1944 Washington quarter in my change. This is the first time in many moons that I received an all silver coin in change. It happens so infrequently anymore, I can't even remember the last time I found one in my change. Back when I was a kid, it was common place. I even remember some Indian Head nickels floating around. Of course I am in my 50's, so when I was a kid, silver coinage was the norm. When was the last time you found a silver coin in change?

The 1999's go out Tuesday

1999 Silver Proofs Well, my EBay set of 1999 Silver Proofs came today, and I will send them Tues to NGC. They will complete my 1999 Proof set in the registry. Maybe they will all come back PF70's. My clad 99's are 69's, so not much of a stretch. They look very worthy of 70 status. Got a good deal on the set, about $100.00 under Red Book price. Sounds like NGC is running quick, so I better get them in before the Holiday.

anyone interested in trading their "P" FDI MS67 for a "D" FDI MS67? I just got notice from NGC of one of my two FDI submissions that I got three 2007 Thomas Jefferson D NGC MS67 FDI...WOW! not bad since I only submitted eight of the "D"s. I didn't get any 67's from the "P" mint though. I have one of these 2007 D Thomas Jefferson NGC MS67 FDI on Ebay Item # 140152225527. Is Anyone interested in trading their "P" FDI MS67 for one of my "D" FDI MS67? The quality really improved at least

Latest submission went to Quality Control already

I am really excited I can't believe it. A submission that got into the system on 8/20 is already in Quality Control status as of 8/27. 5 business days. Wow! Here's to hoping that they ship tomorrow so that I can get my grades. I'm thinking that if any of you have a submission that you've been holding off on sending in that now is a pretty good time. This level of turnaround is quite impressive. I will post again once I know the status of the coins in my submission. Thank you for putting up wit

Final take on slabs

Food for thought I buy most of my coins on Ebay. This is where I see the price differences between NGC and PCGS graded coins, mostly in the modern commems department. NGC coins are always offered at a huge discount compared to the PCGS coins. It seems like the market is flooded with NGC coins, which can only mean that more coins are graded by NGC. I use the PCGS price guide and the Heratage Auctions to get an idea of values for coins, but only as a guide for what I will bid, and I always by th

Where have all the capsules gone? Does anyone know why NGC does not return the US mint capsules with submissions? Even when I request there return they are not. What does NGC do with these mint capsules?

PCGS slabbed coins bring a premium

Why? I would like to thank VUMC409 for the feedback. I see that you agree with me that PCGS slabs bring a premium, but why? Why do PCGS slabs bring a premium? That is my question. Perhaps the ANA and PNG should step aside and the grading standards should be set by PCGS. What I would like to see is that we have at least two grading companies that we can count on. I wonder how long we will have to deal with this dilemma?

YEAR of the PIG

Just received! ....I started collecting the Australia Lunar Silver coins, back in 2000, long before I was aware of NGC or certified coins. I was paying $10 and $11 for them raw then, and now they are $20 raw! Good investment. ....When I became aware of certified coins and NGC, and learned a little about them I was hooked! I started sending all my raw coins to NGC, and was very happy with the grades I was receiving. The Australian coins were coming back MS-68 and 69. I didn't think there we

RE: NGC-PCGS Face-off

You may want to consider... why your choices are what they are in the search for an answer to your own question. Really! Why do you buy NGC and grade PCGS? Sounds to me that you like the cheaper price of NGC but favor PCGS graded coins for some reason. You'll have to search your own feelings for that answer. I personally find NGC and PCGS coins equally attractive on a grade-for-grade basis. I do like the cheaper prices of NGC and prefer the NGC slab over that of PCGS. I value each coin

NGC-PCGS Face-off

And the winner is...... I would like to see a face-off between NGC and PCGS grading modern commemoratives. I don't understand why a 2007 Little Rock NGC MS70 is so much less expensive than one graded by PCGS. And this goes for all modern commemoratives. I think most of us know that PCGS is reluctant to grade a coin MS70 or PF70. Now why is this? Perhaps they are keeping the population down to keep the prices high. Is there something going on in the grading industry that we don't know about? Af

I Got My Grades

Fastest turn around time I've had. I checked on my submission today and found it finalized and shipped, from received on 8-15 to finalized and shipped on 8-23 it seems to me that it was very fast. The 94 veteran's coins, all three came back MS69 as did the 1996 ASE those were the most important ones of the submission, all four were flawless as far as I could see. I have heard that only a grader by trade can tell the differance between a 69 and 70 it must be true because I sure can't. The other

FREE SILVER EAGLE

Look at what my wife got in the mail for free My wife received this 2003 silver Eagle in the mail from a silver investment company. Wow I said thats cool. I buy about 200 to 300 of these silver eagles a year. Well wouldn't you know what was next. The company rep called. I answered the phone. I heard a great sale pitch about how silver is going to 30 dollars an ounce and how I should buy silver NOW while it is cheap. I had to played along. I asked well how much is the silver eagles that you s
