RE: pcgs vs. ngc

hmm it my be a good point This is other way to look at it. I do not watch TV shopping channels because they lie and overprice their stuff. I have couple of NGC coin that in my opinion would grade higher and also I has some weir experience with NGC graded stained morgan. May be NGC give bigger discount to high volume dealers and PCGS is trying to keep their services contain so their coin price remain in higher level. May be it is just market demand ? one cannot be sure. But if you buying a co

The best coin holders?

What is a good price? So, the other day I bought a 2007 bullion Silver Eagle coin from a mail source and I ASSUMED ( we all know what happens when we ASSUME) it would come to me in a plastice coin holder as most would when most coins are ordered. But it came to me in a padded envelope wrapped in a small coin sized envelope. I thought thwe coin looked pretty sharp until I transferred it into a coin holder holding a 1993 Silver Eagle that is tarnishing a bit ( another story) and I looked

A Great Time to Collect!!

Yeah..OK..I am NEW!! I have to say, I have not been this excited to have a collection since my baseball card collection in the 80's and getting more than a few rookie cards and also getting autographs from my heroes (Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench, Willie Mays) just by writing to them and ASKING. Now I am very thrilled to be collecting Silver Eagles, and covet the W mark and getting graded coins. This is a work in progress and I am certain I will pay wayyy too much for some coins, and get awa

Quest For Peace In My Time

One more down and Seven more to go I picked up a very nice MS63 1935P Peace dollar that I added to my collection. I wish I knew more about coin grading. I swear that looks better than most of the MS64's that I have. I guess we have all said that from time to time. This is only my opinion, any one who quotes the PCGS price guide and is not selling PCGS graded coins, is trying to convince you that the $50 coin that they are selling for $70 is in fact worth $90. All the swindlers use the PCGS g

Wood's Hibernia

These historic coins ... were rejected in Ireland at striking and are quite hard to find today. NGC has only graded 9 other examples of this particular coin, the 1723/2 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny overdate. This one will be sent in soon to see what its fate may be. I'm thinking F/VF with a true overdate. This would certainly justify the cost of this coin raw. I don't see any major marks or corrosion or signs of cleaning that would hold this coin back. Natural wear only. I hope the NGC gr

RE:NUMISMEDIA vs. PCGS PRICE GUIDES #3

PCGS has always higher resale value For some reason PCGS has always better resale value than NGC I am not sure why but they do. Couple of weeks back we posted some of the thoughts on the forum. In my opinion PCGS is just a marketing boom and both NGC and PCGS has the same quality grading services. If you look on Ebay, Heritage, and other online auctions PCGS usulay sells for more, then same coin graded by NGC. May be it is because PCGS list the coin value higher or they generate their p

RE:NUMISMEDIA vs. PCGS PRICE GUIDES Take 2

I see both of your points, but... If it's a guideline, then list some guide line prices. It should be regardless of how many NGC has graded vs what the coin is worth. I guess it should boil down to, get a monthly coin publication or check PCGS for free. Speaking of 1971's (my favorite coin collectible), there was a PCGS 1971-S PF 69 Deep Cameo on Ebay (another reason to check the pricelog) and got the wife permission to bid. Our beloved NGC lists it for $1250.00, PCGS NOW lists it for $

The Excitement of Discovery

finding coins is half the thrill One of the great things about coin collecting are all of the small thrills involved { and occasionally a great thrill}. I always get a charge when I go to my post office box and find that a package is there for me. Usually the anticipation has built up enough after waiting for my purchase or the return of a submission that the package is lucky to make it home unopened. Another great thrill {which doesn't happen to me too often} is getting a coin graded higher

RE:NUMISMEDIA vs. PCGS PRICE GUIDES.

it is in the coin I think that tha PCGS and NUMISMEDIA prices is just type of average value guide. A lot of common grades and coins are usually sell way under their value but coins that are in higher demand are sometimes sold for more. Also some collectors buying coins that have nice appeal. I saw two 1878 S Morgan dollars on ebay one was MS65 with ugly toning the second one was nice looking MS64 with PL obverse. The MS65 was sold for 145.00 and the MS64 sold for 179.00 both graded by NGC S

NUMISMEDIA vs. PCGS PRICE GUIDES.

Bottom line: your coin is worth what you can sell it for. NumisMedia won't give a price where NGC has not graded enough coins to make a market. With the 1971 25C PF68UC example only 2 have been graded 68 and 5 graded 69. Having bought and sold only NGC and PCGS coins on eBay for several years, my experience is that NumisMedia prices, while also high, are much more realistic than PCGS. Bottom line: the coin is worth what you can sell it for. Here is a 1942-S LIBERTY WALKING 50C MS65. Numi

What's the deal with NumisMedia

It seems like 75% of the coins listed don't have pricing It kinda burned me when I read this: NumisMedia does not currently support Star(*) Grades. 'No Price' notation indicates that NumisMedia does not yet provide the value for this coin. Alright, I can understand not pricing the * grade, but the second sentance?? I mean, come on! Even PCGS has a better pricing guide than NGC, even if a nickel is worth a $1.00, it lists it as such. Even the errors, and different varities. WHat a

So-Called Dollars

Is there a place... in the registry, other than as a Signature Set, for So-Called Dollars? The particular one I purchased is currently unlisted in the Pop Report but it is supposed to make the list this year. I haven't found a place for it yet so I created a Signature Set for it. Hopefully more will follow this one shortly ...

Variety Plus DISCOUNT

If the grading service is authenticating a coin, isn't it easier to authenticate when the variety is published? So why the extra fee? So the grading service sees a double die and has to look in a reference book to compare. Isn't that their 'job'? Kinda what you hired them to do... authenticate the coin. How much easier to authenticate a coin is that; it's published? Yet it's gonna cost you an extra $7 at NGC, assuming they even bothered to update their reference library--or look at it. M

Coin Prices are Going Down!

Be Patient... The market is really bad and if you are really busting a gut to buy just wait a little bit longer. The US DOLLAR is really weak and people cant pay their house payments or their debt. So when they need money they sell things and when there is a lot of material prices go down. The other scenario is that because nobody has any money because they spend it all; none of the coins will be be bought that are on the market.Again when there is to much material prices go down. Closing in on a Hundred Grand

The unorthodox way (apparently) As my registry total nears 100,000, I found myself looking for folks, such as myself, who have a large quantity of coins with relatively low average rankings. I have approximately 900 coins entered into the system which by far exceeds the average number of coins per user. Quantity over quality? I don't really think so. I love the coins I have purchased and entered here to share with everyone. Granted several of the coins are UGLY but some were needed to fil
