I think that tha PCGS and NUMISMEDIA prices is just type of average value guide. A lot of common grades and coins are usually sell way under their value but coins that are in higher demand are sometimes sold for more. Also some collectors buying coins that have nice appeal. I saw two 1878 S Morgan dollars on ebay one was MS65 with ugly toning the second one was nice looking MS64 with PL obverse. The MS65 was sold for 145.00 and the MS64 sold for 179.00 both graded by NGC

Some hard to find PL's are selling also above their value
