Re: Ngc Needs To Change The 2007 Registry Award Rules

I disagree, and I think you're missing the point of the Coin Registry. Yes, it has a competitive aspect, but the competition is supposed to enhance, not replace the appreciation of collecting. If, as your message suggests, you see it primarily as a competition, that could explain why you don?t think you should need 50% of the set to win. But if you understood that collecting, not competing, is the point of the Registry, the 50% minimum might make more sense to you. I?d add that even from a

NGC Changing Awards Rules?

breaking the rules Dear Journal: In the 2+ years that I have been using the journal feature I have never broken the spirit of the journal purpose. I understand it is supposed to be about my personal collecting experience and not an open forum for discussions. I recently read an entry that riled me up enough to almost insist on a reply. Through my years of life there are few things that disgust me more than those who would complain about the rules, refuse to adhere to societal rules/law

Ngc Needs To Change The 2007 Registry Award Rules

2007 registry award for roosevelts is in my grasp,or is it Lets all just face reality.Becoming #1 in a real set take cunning, luck, and a lot of money.(Real set)meaning more than 60 coins in a set.I started my roosevelt mint state set in feburary 2007.I was in last place, now I am #1.Now this takes determination and I dont think anyone has gone from last to first place in 10 months. They have 3 different catagories 1946-1964,1946-present,and 1965-present.My small problem is from 1946 to present i

My Coin Budget

going overboard with buying... My wife and I rarely to never argue. Mostly it is because we both have pretty laid back temperments and most things in life aren't worth the drama. Also I think a large part is because we keep seperate bank accounts. We both have almost identical incomes so we divide the bills evenly and whatever extra we have is to spend at our discetion. A large part of my "leftover" money goes to coins. I have tried various methods to keep my spending in check and for the mo

Re:, Re:Graded coins

I learned it the hard way Unless some one is getting a large volume discount on grading of coins, selling common dates at grades of 60-64 is always a losing proposition. What other way is there to get higher graded coins than to buy roll after roll of raw coins to look through. Trusting your grading skills to pick the best ones and hoping they come back what you want. As the expenses mount up ask your self if I were to buy this coin in MS?? what would it cost, chances are less than what you h

re: graded coins

it is open market Generally most of medium graded coins (ms60 to ms64) sells on ebay for lee than the value. Sometimes for loss. It happend to me numeros times when I upgraded my collection. If somebody needs the coin then they pay more but usually coins on ebay just change online dealers. There is more to offer.

The Elusive MS 70 2006 W Silver Eagle

Well, NOT "Elusive" if you have lotsa CASH Wow! People are really crazy ( me included ) about the 2006 w silver eagles. I have one in original mint packaging, ungraded, that I paid 89.00 for 3 weeks ago. Now I don't even see the ungraded for less than 150.00. This may seem like a re-print of my last entry, but really, this is amazing! So I weigh out the dilemna about whether to get my coin graded ( knowing it will be at LEAST a ms 69) or do I buy a pre-graded MS 70 for about 200.00?

FROM BODY BAG TO NGC STAR.

FROM US MINT HOLDER TO BODY BAG TO NGC STAR. While going through some of my US Mint Proof Sets I noticed that some of the silver proofs had toned. These are coins still in the US Mint holders. I sent this dime to NGC for grading. It was returned in a body bag-artificial toning. I was a little upset! I knew I couldn?t argue with NGC so I resubmitted. Here it is:

Got my latest grades back

Didn't do too badly, I suppose. I was real pleasantly suprised to find out that the two Commemoratives that I submitted, from the 1986 Statue of Liberty issue, came back PF69 UC for the 50c and PF70 UC for the $1. I'm especially tickled because I paid $18.99 for the set on eBay last month. My state quarters... Well, I was disappointed, but not surprised. For as many quarters as I've had graded in the past, I would've thought that I'd see at least on PF70. Again, all PF69 UC. I still have a c

A lot to admire out here

A lot to learn, too... I have to agree with this recent thread. I don't feel that I have anything in my collection that is particularly impressive, but a lot of people here do, and I'm constantly amazed by how much one can learn from some of the members here. Hats off to all of you!

Mutual Admiration Society........

What A Kind Thing to Say About Others... I would like very much to thank Society Member "Clay" for the kind words about my collection that he mentioned in his journal entry that is listed right before this one(Museum of Coins). Although it is a work in progress and a passion, I hope that everyone who comes to see what any of us have in our museum finds the inspiration that I have had for coins for many years. I love VAM's and collecting dollars as any of you will be able to see. I want to impr

MUSEUM of COINS

We are all building one! When we decided to join the Collectors Society and participate in the Registry, we embarked on a journey to build our own museums. The museums will reflect our desires, passions, interests and of course our money. While we are building our collections, we invite the public to come in and enjoy the journey together, and it's free! We tell them to come back anytime day or night and it's still free. Some of us are ashamed of our collections and have closed(OBSCURED) t

2006 W American Silver Eagle Prices Continue to "Soar"

Pardon the Pun I really wish I started collecting silver eagles last year. I cannot believe the prices of last years 2006 w silver eagles. I have been watching the price of a 20th anniversary set go from 350.00 about a week ago...to upwards of 1500.00 now. Even an uncirculated 2006 w UNGRADED is going for 160.00. I bought an ungraded 2006 w uncirculated silver eagle 2 weeks ago for 89.00 and I SWORE I spent too much. I am now trying to acquire an MS 70 2006 w uncirculated silver eagle...and

THE SEARCH GOES ON ( : Smile : )

Presidents and Peace are on my mind again, no, still!!!!! While searching for a pair of John Adams P&D in MS66. I ran in to a gentleman who is a member of the PCGS collectors org. although he doesn't participate in the registry, he has large numbers of coins graded. Like 400 Presidential proof sets and goes through dollars by the thousand dollar box. He told me that out of the 400 proof sets none graded higher than PR69ucam. He was very disappointed to say the least. He also lamented the f

Turnaround is still extremely impressive

My latest submission is just a-movin' right along My latest submission arrived at NGC on 10/18. It went from Recieved to Scheduled for Grading on 10/19. 10/20 and 10/21 was the weekend. It went from Scheduled for Grading to Quality Control at noon EST on 10/22. Of course, by writing this Journal Entry, I have probably cursed myself, and it will take 10 days to get out of Quality Control... :-)

Hi Guys, Everyone likes reading my journals, so it seems. There is no way I can deprive you any longer, from seeing this beauty. This is, as far as I am concerned, the absolutely nicest Business strike Hawaii Dollar that there is.Too bad the grading companies don't agree with me, wouldn't give her a 66. I guess that's allright, she is the only MS65* Hawaii Dollar accounted for. I have seen two of the six 66's, looked at them for over a half hour with a 15 power loop. There is no doubt in my mi
