Coin pictures

With a little help .... After reading in the forums about coins with no pictures, I decided to take a few pictures to add to my sets. I tried for awhile to take some decent pictures of the coins with my camera. After several hours and much frustration I was about to give up. No matter what I did I couldn't get a decent pic. With a friends help it was discovered that I needed a macro lens to get the pictures sharp and to be able to show the coins cameo's. I'm still learning how to take accura

And then there were Eight

I got lucky I picked up a MS63 1926S Peace Dollar in an auction today. I was happy and suprised that I got it for what I did. I geuss there was not much intrest in it, lucky for me. I have been a coin collector for a long time, but up until this year I only collected raw coins. I have almost complete sets of Lincoln cents 1909-2007 minus 1909S VDB, 1914D and 1955 double die,Indian head pennys except for 1877, you get the picture any way I have all the Kennedy halves including proofs and from 2

Not very nice quarter

Wyoming quarter is just plain Today i just received the new Wyoming quarter and when I look om the reverse, I did not like it very much the design is very plain and simple. Not to much craftsmanship. It looks like same game token you get in casino or pizza place. Lately I was browsing Royal Canadian Mint and I must stated that they are step ahead of US mint. I would buy some coins but to my suprise the Canadian dollar is worth more that US dollar.

NEWS from the mint

THEY DIDN'T PUT ALL the coins into circulation I just found out that in 2001 the coins (p) and (d) of the kennedy half dollar were only released in small quantities and in limited areas of the country, and they still have a large amount of the mintage coin in there vault as of this year (2007) the amonut minted for each coin, is for the (p) coin 22,600,000 minted and the (d) coins where minted at 19,466,000 and between the two of them less then 2/3 of the coins were put into circulation, but a

Peace In My Time.

Only 3 months left With a new month starting in two days and nine Peace Dollars left till I hit 100% I will have to average three a month to finish on time. I just finished out this month with a MS64 1926P. I am trying to develop a plan for acquiring the rest. The 1924S will be the hardest one to get or should I say afford, with a nice AU being what I will be looking for, with an up grade to MS some time in the future. I think I can swing at least an MS60 to 64 on everything else. At present I

MOST AWESOME RETURN

HATS OFF TO NGC! ....You know you have an Awesome return when you purchase a coin that you think is the key to the set you're building. The coin arrives, and you say "WOW" this has to be a perfect coin. The coin is then sent to the grading GODs in Florida, and they say "wow" this coin is perfect! They say to the coin, now return to the Rocky Mountains and bring happeness. The Queen Mother has returned and is now awaiting to be taken to the dark hole for safekeeping!

My New Nickel

Yep, it's only a nickel but man what a beauty 1883, the first year of the Liberty Nickels, the end of the Shield Nickel. Who knows what they looked like when they were brand new? My Grandfather? Nope, My Great Grandfather? Probably not. My Great-Great Grandfather? That's probably closer to reasonable. Now I know what they looked like fresh from the mint and you can too. Check out the picture of this gorgeous Shield Nickel. Enjoy!

My New Coin

Know nothing about her I just won this coin at a Heritage auction. I don't know anything about it--it's a SC$1 dated 1915 from Montana's contribution to the Pan-Pacific expo. I almost started a Signature Set a few years ago of coins with Angels on them, but my collecting of ship themed coins have more than kept me busy enough. Throw in the Walker short set I'm working on and the PL Canada Bluenose dimes and I have plenty to hunt for in my numismatic pursuits. Anyone with any info on the des

WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO?

I HATE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS! AS WE ALL KNOW THE JEFFERSON SPOUSE COINS ARE OUT, I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGHT TO HAVE A FRIEND WHO WASN'T BUYING THEM AND WHO WOULD LET ME DEPOSITE THE $850 INTO HIS ACCOUNT TO PURCHASE A SET FOR ME. WORKED FINE, I GOT MY SET, DIDN'T WANT TO WAIT ON THE OTHERS, SO I SENT THEM EXPRESS TIER AT NGC. WELL WHILE THOSE WERE BEING GRADED, MY FRIEND CALLED AND SAID THE OTHER TWO HAD ARRIVED, SO I PICK THEM UP, GET HOME, AND CHECK THE GRADES OF THE FIRST TWO, BOTH WERE 70's(PF

Merry Early Christmas!

...For me, that is....   (I wrote this in comics, but it also pertains to my coins. Please don't ask me why I'm getting into comics, cause the coins are too much now!)WELL! My big old 44th birthday has brought me some good things! My dear wife knows how much I like the casinos (and how the casinos love me is more like it) but she allowed me to go to the Hard Rock Casino here in Tampa FL on my birthday, which was the 24th of this month. I go there with all good intentions of spending $100.

Working within a budget

Still trying to recover from the ANA show. To me at least, trying to stay within my coin budget is difficult. After the ANA I am now trying to save up for a couple of months to have some funds available when I see the "Special" coin for my type sets. Seems as soon as I buy a piece I see another that then gets bought before I can come up with the money. I usually have a running list of coins I am interested in that I compile from the various dealers I have worked with. Out of the 6 coins I h

Current US Mint Offerings

I consider myself a "modern" coin collector for the most part. As many have noted before me, the current offering by the US mint is beyond the pocketbooks of your average joe. That in and of itself is not what disturbs me the most. What really disturbs me is the lack of artistry, craftmanship and beauty that defined so many of the coins from the early part of the 20th century. The presidential dollars are downright ugly. They have almost no relief, the designs are tired and dull, the Busin

Silver and Clad Quarter Proof Sets

Its easy to weigh the sets from Ebay It looks like each year can vary just a couple of tenths but I weighed the 2005 Silver and Clad Quarter proof sets and here's what I found out. All 5 Silver Proof Quarters with the plastic case = 76.8 grams All 5 Clad Proof Quarters with the plastic case = 73.2 grams It might help if someone has all the sets straight from the Mint to weigh them and post all the results so we can protect ourselves from cheats!

I think that I got had out on eBay

Why would someone go to this kind of trouble I bought a 2002 Silver Proof State Quarters Set out on eBay for $20. I submitted them along with some other Silver Quarter Sets that I had, and just found out from NGC that the coins in the holder were Clad. I feel like an insufficiently_thoughtful_person... Never again will I buy coins on eBay. I stopped buying raw coins a long time ago, but I thought that sealed mint and proof sets were safe. I guess not...

NGC was doing ok

Where is my mint set? All my other coins came back, and my Uncirculated mint set pds 1946 is still in 'received'. They got there the same day. Hmmmm. I wonder if my Peace dollars and Morgans will make it back before the mint sets??

NGC turnaround has noticably picked up recently

I sent 15 State Quarters in the mail on 9/19. They became Received at NGC on 9/21. Went to Scheduled for grading on 9/25. Not too shabby... The only thing that worries me is that my 2000 State Quarters Set got loaded as Clad and not Silver. I called to enquire about that and was told not to worry. Anybody else out here have any similar experiences? I've got another submission prepared to go out today. I'm sending out the American Eagle 20th Anniversary Set that my Wife got me for our Anniver

Peace and Prosperity

A successful week comes to an end   I also agree with Revenant about the sale of coins in the JournalThis weekend I added a MS63 1923S to my Peace Dollar Collection. At least for now The Peace Dollar is my favorite as if no one new that I like Morgan's also and have a nice raw set made up of unc, and some circulated coins totaling 63 coins. the best ones more than likely would grade out in the low 60's. I don't have a chance at getting a complete collection of them. Peace dollars on the other h
