Changes in registry standings

My standings change all the time. For those of you who are concerned about your registry standings changing I would point out that there is more to consider than the revision of certain coin values. Often times you may be bounced lower when someone adds new coins and moves ahead of you in points. Other times someone who is ranked higher may decide to sell some coins and therefore reduce their ranking. In either case I personaly wouldn't worry about it. Just continue to enjoy this hobby (HABI

Rank keeps changing, points don't change

Earlier today I was ranked 221, a couple hours later 211! I have been experiencing jumps in rank (both up and down) not point changes. My rank jumps 10-15 places. I see this every couple of days. Up, down, up, down, up, down. I feel like a pogo stick! This is an uncirculated 1942 Walker that ended up grading AU58. I guess all the years I had it before grading it caused it to be "circulated".

Sigh... Waiting again... :-)

When will I ever figure out that I stink at selecting coins to grade? As in the lyrics of a famous 80s song, "Here I go again". I put in another submission to NGC. 3 Proof Sets (without the Statehood Quarters). 2000, 2001, and 2003. As I'm waiting for the status to roll over from "Received" to "Scheduled for Grading", I asked myself one of those questions that seem so obvious. Why are you submitting coins in the first place? Just received Dear Journal, Well the mailman made another great delivery today! Two Panda Silver coins that I purchase from EBay. I sure like the looks of them! I was watching a program about the ZOO in Hong Kong. They have a live Panda, worth over 1 million dollars, I should be so lucky.

Going up!

I'm not going down like rons, but I see what is happening I've gone up 9 spots in the registry rankings in a matter of days, and haven't done a thing. I know that JoiseyGirl had put out a posting a few days back warning that some coins were being re-analyzed to try and adjust Registry Values that were thought to be inconsistent. Does not appear that Morgans are amongst those being re-analyzed, though, because I haven't seen any decline. At least not yet, anyway...

Reflections spurned by another journal entry

going down?

help me I'm shrinking !!!!!! I like to log on the boards once a day just to check in and check out the chat boards for items of interest. There is always a good discussion going on there. 99% of the time it is quite civil and I appreciate that. My concern is that every day I check in my point totals are dropping. I have plummeted several thousand points in the last 5 days or so, even after adding a couple of coins. I enjoy the commemoratives both old and new but apparently there is some point

Storage is important

I learned the hard way Last summer, I had a few older proof sets out on the spare dining room table (should call it the coin table, as it has not seen a dinner in years), and after only a few days, a couple of coins looked different, tone wise, from the sun shining on them most of the day. These were in the plastic government wrapper, and not the hard plastic. I got my money back out of them, but they were going to NGC, before their transformation into cloudy coins. As political as things get these days, let's get to symbols we can all agree on. I agree with the previous posts on this subject. More now than ever, we need ways to unite our citizenry. Digging through my old box of Indian Nickels Since 2002 I have been using ebay to sell off my bulk coins that I found over the years as a Banker. My primary target has been the Morgan Dollar. I received several lessons over the first few years buying Morgans through ebay and eventually only purchase NGC and PCGS. Recently I have pulled out an old box of Indian Head Nickels. Where have your Coins Been?

Who has had your coins... They always put who has owned high end coins when they are in great collections on the NGC or PCGS insert. But, who owned the coins when they were in circulation. The coins you own could have been spent by former presidents or famous people back in the day. May be Thomas Edison or Ben Franklin owned your coins. Safe Storage

Store Your Coins Safely My thoughts today are drawn to being spoiled by gold, and enjoying it frequently. Now a time is come to store, and let the luster wait for it's next viewing in storage. My 1963 sets are coming along nicely.

I've added several "MONSTER" coins to my 1963 sets recently. I really lucked out - again. I picked up an MS67RD 1963-D cent on a recent HA auction and I got it for a very reasonable price considering the rarity (pop 2/0). This one will pair nicely with the MS67RD 1963 cent I got a while back. I also currently have two MS66 5FS 1963 nickels (pop 10/1). The Great Adams Massacre of 2007

I wuz robbed I have been collecting coins for a loooong time. Since I live in California, the rolls of Presidential Dollar Coins are all from the Denver Mint. I sent several of the Denver Minted Coins from a roll obtained at a local bank. Results 5 coins submitted MS-66=3 MS-65=2. As I always say the only real vaule of a coin is how much that someone is willing to pay for it!!!! A little bit about online actions E-bay and to a lesser extent HA.com are very much a buyers market. I often wonder where the sellers are getting the coins that they sell? Common date Morgans Ngc MS64 1879s,1880s,1881s,1882and so on, regularly sell for $30-40 sometimes less. Peace Dollars for less, there are so many of these for sale it can't help but drive the price down. When I look to buy or

I never really appreciated the mirrors on this coin as much as I do after photographing it

Now, if I could just get rid of that glare on the left side My photography skills are SLOWLY getting better. I still have a lot of work to do. I seem to have problems getting the lighting right. Oh well, practice makes perfect, right? Anyway, I always thought this 1987 Panda to be a beautiful coin, but I was awestruck when I saw the reflectivity in its mirrors after photographing it.

JOHN ADAMS

Just received! Dear Journal, Yesterday, Friday, August 3, 2007 I received my order of John Adams First Day Mintage back from NGC. The grading just isn't turning out very high for these coins. Also, I still keep hearing that this will be the last year with printing on the rims. They are going to put in back on the front and reverse. So time will only tell how this series progresses. Today, Saturday, August 4, 2007 I sent off an order of Australia Lunar coins to NGC for grading.

Cleaning of coins

is always a no no! Cleaning is usually considered doing something that changes the surface of the coin. Like rubbing the coin with polish or some type of cleaner like baking soda, etc. By rubbing the coins surface you will impart light hairlines to the piece. These are easy to see under magnification by turning the coin under a strong incandescent light bulb. I scored twice in the last two days

Even I get lucky once in a while Yesterday while seaching for deals which means alot of searching and not to many deals.I came across some one selling seven NGC MS64 Peace dollars individuly with opening bids of $27.95 I bid on all seven of them, with a $30 bid thinking the whole time why am I wasting my time they will never sell for that. Supply and Demand! I think you see the fluctuation because you have more sellers in market than you did even a year ago. Even as short a time ago as a year you had only a few coin dealers, mainly in Florida that controlled the market on modern coins. These dealers held coins back to some degree to create a higher demand - perception was lower quantities of coin available. AN OPEN QUESTION FOR MEMBERS?

Are prices on coins going down the tubes? I've been collecting and selling for over 40 years but I'm new to internet selling/buying. It would appear that prices of coins are taking a hit (-25-30% on Modern issues) as of late and I was wondering if this is a seasonal drop? After reading the previous post where JimL4004 got the deals (or steals) on his Peace Dollars, it would seem that something is going on. Any thoughts on this from some of you more vetern internet sellers?
