Don't listen to others!

Collect what you like and not what others think you should collect. When you get a coin dealer newsletter they always say to buy this and that, but is that what you really want to collect. For example, the guys that go to auctions and pay $30,000 for a modern coin. They are buying what they like and trying to build there set to the best of their abilities. Most people think there crazy and I certainly would never pay that much money for a modern even if I was rich out of my mind. But at least

Ahh... The waiting continues (more sequels than Friday the 13th)

Stuck in "Received" Purgatory for 10 days now I know. I have no right to complain. The turnaround times are plainly listed for all to see. But... I'm really not complaining. It's well.... it's more like whining. I fully understand that the fine people at NGC are doing their utmost to turn my coins around and get them back to me as expeditiously as possible. It's just that I hate the wait. I'm a member of the "I want it now" generation, and well, darn it, I really would like to have it now..

World Coin Price Guide?

Honestly, I don't know. I've thought about getting a reference and trying to price them and if I find something I like I'll let you know but right now you probably know as much as I do. Most of the foreign coins I have mean more in a sentimental sense than anything else so I've never tried to price them. Most of what I have falls into 2 categories. 1) Coins from my grandparents' trip to South America and Europe when my mother was a little girl and 2) Coins given to me from a friend of my mothe

Welcome searcher

Glad to add another to our forum Welcome aboard, and dont be shy. We are all pretty cool in here, and if someone bothers ya, put them on ignore. Then you dont even see what they post. Oh, I had a question for revenant. You collect foreign coins, is there a easy to use guide for finding info on values and origins of such coins? I used to work in a casino, and we could take the foreign coins for free, we just had to let them look at them before we took em home. So every now and then, I find a fe

Bulgarian Coins!

On a more positive note than what I've been reading here all day... My mother's co-worker (who originates from Bulgaria) just left for here trip home this weekend. She had to delay her trip several weeks because these lawyers she'd paid a mountain of money to help her obtain permanent residency status still hadn't gotten their acts together. She's going to try to bring me back lots of new and old shiney Bulgarian coins for my collection of foreign coins (I think I have coins from about 17 di

Issues

O.K. If it is that important to you that you are right then I'll say it. You're Right. No matter who YOU are. But sometimes, even when you are right you are wrong! This is a forum that is designed for coin collectors to share their knowledge and enjoy a little camaraderie as well as have a little fun with other collectors. (Are we having fun continuing with this?!) It is not a place for name calling, much less the wholesale degradation and belittlement of another human being. There is enough o

YOU'RE RIGHT

I APOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE I AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS JOURNAL ENTRY BY MPSAMUS1, I DO APOLOGIZE FOR BEING CHILDISH, AND FOR TAKING THIS WHOLE THING A LITTLE TOO PERSONAL. I JOINED NGC DUE TO MY PASSION FOR COIN COLLECTING, NOT TO BICKER BACK AND FORTH ABOUT SOMETHING SO PETTY. TO ALL THOSE I OFFENDED PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGY, AND IN THE FUTURE I WILL JUST KEEP MY COMMENTS TO MYSELF. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS MESSAGE. HAVE A GOOOD ONE

No good deed goes unpunished...

try to make this a little fun and this is what I get... You know... This forum can be a little stuffy at times but it is fun too. I "TRY" to add a little humor every now and then, and usually fail in the process, but at least I try. I also try to add a little excitement from time to time too. When NGC does not have their trivia contest, I like to do one myself. I get great responses from many collectors (usually) and I have a great time doing it. Well last week, I posted a question about

Thanks for just taking the time Mike!

I commend you on the effort to make things interesting & fun! The trivias are really fun and they make a person look up things that you never would otherwise. It expands ones knowlege of coin, teachs you something you wouldn't have otherwise even looked into. It's fun to win once, but it's really just fun trying to play and learn something new. Again, thanks for making things fun here, and for taking the time & making the effort to do so! Dennis

My love of Numismatics

This is why I collect coins and paper money. My coin collecting days started when I was about ten years old while helping my grandfather rebuild a house during the summer. One day while doing a little demolition, I found a bag full of pennies someone had buried deep inside a wall. None of these pennies were in very good condition but, that one 1909 VDB penny stood out. I did not realize it then but I was now hooked. Over the last thirty-five years I have collected off and on. It seems I

LOOK, ILLITERACY STILL EXSISTS!

DANNY CANT SPELL HEY DANNY, I SEE YOU HAD TO PUT YOUR 2 CENTS IN, WELL WHEN YOU LEARN TO SPELL, COME BACK AND WRITE ANOTHER ENTRY JUST TO HELP YOU- "PRIZE" NOT "PRICE" "DONATE SOME PRIZES" NOT "DENATE SOME PRICES" I AGREE A GIFT HAS NO DOLLAR VALUE. AS I SAID BEFORE WHY WOULD I GO TO THESE LENGTHS IF I DONT FEEL I'M RIGHT. HEY DANNY, NEXT TIME YOU ANSWER A QUESTION AND NOONE RESPONDS SEE HOW YOU FEEL THEN. SINCERLY ME AGAIN

WOW, I dont know what to say about the issues at hand....

...Kinda bothered... ... Mr Cooper, i just wanted to say thank u for posting those questions. Beleive it or not it feels good to have someone test collectors knowledge of coins. Specially when they dont have to and on top of that give a price. A gift is priceless. Wether the price is worth .01 cent or a billion dollars. I feel offended by the comment a member left about u. freaking . Please keep up the good work. We should all get together and denate some prices to give to winners. Having a ho

Let it go!!!!!!

Let it go!!! OK guys, it is time to let the trivia stuff go. Coin collecting is meant to be fun, not everyone agrees on every aspect of the hobby but one on one disagreements should be dealt with privately not on the forum with everyone. Let's go back to the FUN forum we all know as some stuff is just not important enough to ruin your day over.

MY RESPONSE

YOU ARE WRONG THIS ENTRY GOES TO ALL WHO READ THIS FORUM. I AM THE PERSON WHO, AS MR. COOPER SAYS, DEMANDED HIM TO SEND ME THE COIN. I MERELY REMINDED HIM OF THE ANSWER I POSTED TO THE PT BARNUM QUESTION, I TOLD HIM I FELT I SHOULD GET THE COIN DUE TO THE FACT THAT I ANSWERED THE QUESTION LIKE A MINUTE AND A HALF AFTER HE POSTED THE QUESTION, YOU CAN FIND THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION ON PAGE 281 IN THE 2007 REDBOOK. MAYBE I'M NOT ONE OF HIS BUDDIES ON THIS FORUM. I REALLY DONT CARE ABOUT SOME

Good for you Mike

You tell em I think your disgruntled 'winner' is the same kind of person I dealt with in Ebay a while back. Tried to bend over backwards, and still got a bad result. I have fun in this site, and I do not always like every single post in here, or agree with every single thing written in here. But I think for someone to go after you like that, for just trying to make the site more interesting is a shame. I have posted a couple trivia questions in the past, the first time, I had a winner, and th
