A visit to the Baltimore-Washington Coin Show
NGC disappointed me by being absent
I live in Central Delaware, which is not exactly the hub of civilization, but it is within 2 hours drive of Baltimore, so when I saw that NGC was going to be onsite at the Baltimore Convention Center for the Baltimore-Washington Coin Show Mar 23-Mar 25, I packed up my family for a day in the city.
The weather was gorgeous, so I knew that my wife and daughters would find plenty to do downtown at the Inner Harbor while I spent time at the Show, looking for bargains, and investigating the possibility of getting some of my coins graded. I figured that even if I did not have them actually graded onsite, I would save in the cost of postage and insurance for their trip down to Florida.
So, to get ready, I pulled out seven of my best ungraded Morgan Dollars, removed them from their Air-Tite Slabs, placed them into flips, and was on my great adventure through the central Delmarva countryside on my way to the Big B-Mo'.
However, as soon as I walked into the show area, I discovered, much to my surprise that NGC had pulled up stakes and left the show the day before. While it did not wreck my day by any stretch (My family and I had a wonderful day with absolutely gorgeous weather), I found the whole experience vis-a-vis NGC a little disconcerting.
If I'm not mistaken (and I'll admit that I did not double-check before writing this), there was a posting on this very site that said NGC will be at the Washington-Baltimore Coin Show from Mar 23 - Mar 25. NOT Mar 23 - Mar 24. I will consider this a learning experience, and it won't stop me from going to the next show. I'll just make sure not to show up on the last day.
