Collecting Britannias

Strategies for building a top rated set! One of my favorite coins to collect are silver Britannias. The reason I like them is that they are allegorical, featuring ?Britannia? the national personification of the United Kingdom. Another reason I like them is the design changes every year based on a single theme, ?Britannia?. However, another more nostalgic reason is my wife?s British heritage. You can imagine my delight when I found that Collector?s Society added the series as a competitive set.

Thanks to Coindude again ! I just received some nice coin display boxes... Here's the 3/4 complete 1937 Gold proof set. Harder than I thought to get a decent picture ! it will have to wait until I go see my cousin Does anyone out there have the missing 1937 1 Sov PF66 CAMEO ? Finally the mint is going to ship me some stuff too, bring it on !

Raw 1899-O Barber 25c is in-hand!

Actually, it's a bit nicer than the photo in the ad. Now that I have the 1899-O Barber Quarter in-hand, I can see that it is not, IMO, uncirculated, let alone MS63. However, it may be an AU58. It is somewhat dark but there is a lot of lustre and the lustre is only broken on the obverse. When you tilt it in the light, there is a golden color to the toning and it is on both sides. I will keep it and have it graded (and hope it isn't AT or cleaned, but I am pretty sure it hasn't been cleaned).

Nice people do exist Two days ago, I recieved a box in the mail. I raised an eyebrow. I pretty much know when and what is arriving in the mail to me. I keep pretty close tabs on the coins that I purchase. Well, on this day, I was BAFFLED!! I got home and opened this box. HMMM, three really nice early 1970's specimen sets, in leather cases. Skipping to 1836 After getting my 1834 cent in the Naftzger middle dates sale, I took a breather. I had spent half my available funds on three nice coins, and I didn't have a target 1835 in mind. The mint shipping UHR Double Eagles ~ Not exactly first come first served!

I had ordered my UHR double eagle on the first day it was available on the mint's web site and finally received it on Friday, March 6. Of course! I rushed it overnight to NGC to beat the March 9 deadline. Just saw the post from David Fischer that he had ordered on the second day and received his coin almost 10 days before I got mine. Beyond Frustration

Invoice date Jan 23/09 I think now I am beyond frustration. I have had my coins setting in NCS from Jan 23 and after checking almost everyday it is a bit much. I wonder has anyone else had to wait this long? I just hope and pray that the wait is going to be worth the result. The Roosevelt Dime - A few musings from a collector.

Why all the points? I've often wondered about the point structure on the Roosevelt dimes and considering a recent post about lowering these points, I thought it might be time to interject, as I too thought that they were a bit out of touch. However, all you have to do is submit a few of these diminuitive coins for grading and I think most will find out just how tough this series can be on the collector. Dimes and halves.......quarters? Hello all! With all sets getting re-evaluated, can the Sacagawea $1 be far behind? With a "FYOI" pedigree, will our soon to be (11 coin) sets be recognized for the completeness they represent? I know there'd be a lot of irate Sac set owners if they did acknowledge them all. There are 3, 2008 MS Eagles though. Type in any of my "green label" 2000 Sacs, and see what comes up. The defense rests!! Happy collecting!

Full torches can drive you mad

Strike is 100 times more harder to find in the same grade I have went to coin shows and looked until my eyes hurt trying to find only full torches.Pickens are very slim.As soon as I flip the coin over,if the torch looks bad in anyway,I discard it.I dont care even if it would make a ms68. 99% of all my roosevelts are full torches.I still wonder why a ms68* has about the same points as a 68ft.Alot of people say to look at the population report.Population report has nothing to do with it.More peo

UHR Double Eagle

Waitng for the mint to send UHR was agony! Today I logged on and found that the UHR coin I submitted 2 weeks ago was graded MS70! YEA! But waiting for the mint to send the coin was torture! I had ordered my UHR the second day of ordering and kept getting notice from the mint that it would be delayed. Well its been a ride I finally got my grades on coins sent in. A couple good ones and the rest medium and I put them in my sets. The other coins I sent for grades finally got there so in 20 or so days I can add those to my sets.I had sent some coins in for auction but they moved this month. Only 15 of these gems as of 3/6/09. Now I own one of them!!!!!! This one had been on ebay for about a month and a half, varying the type of auction and the price. Sent Five Proof Roosevelt Dimes to NGC

This time I took pictures of them to help me choose the best ones to send in. I have recently started a Proof Roosevelt Dime set and I am trying to find the best coin that I can for each year. I decided to send some of my Proof Roosevelt Dimes to NGC for grading and had 12 different coins to choose from. I thought all of them could get a PF-70 UC designation from NGC. Boy was I wrong.
