On the way down

Short lived being in the 500's. Good Afternoon, I started at 592 and in 6 days I am already down to 597! But that's how it goes. Up and down. I have been trying to get to the 500's for over 1 1/2 years. I know that isn't that long, but it takes a lot of work and time to get to this point oh yeah, MONEY also! I found the NGC census for the UHR today

They're not in the American Gold Eagle catagory What I noticed today is that NGC changed the .9999 Gold Buffalo catagory to .9999 Fine Gold Bullion coin. You will find the UHR's in there (both Regular and Early Releases census reports) Happy collecting! Jimmie

I Just Bought The 09 SAE

Early Release MS 70 for 134.00 WOW!! Talk about compulsive!! I went ahead and bought a MS 70 ER SAE for 134.00, and I am glad I did actually. With a census of only 1627 compared to 17,000 MS 69's, I felt I would only be doing myself good by pulling the trigger on this. I believe, who knows for sure, but I believe I will be seeing this coin escalate in price farther than I can even imagine by next year. Spending time at a non-coin convention I've spent most of this weekend at a local gaming/anime convention that is held at my university every year. Before I started college, lost most of my free time and found coin collecting I was a gamer. This is great fun to me even if I don't get to indulge in it often. Ours is the largest and oldest student run convention in the country. This was the 40th year. Those of us that know what it is are quite proud of it. We like discussing coin auctions here

What happened to honor, integrety, respect? A couple of months ago, I sold a coin on ebay to a fellow who, it seemed from the start to be a little sly. Now, I sell a few coins on ebay, mostly, coins that don't make the grade for my sets. I've never had problems before, so an expert in sale issues, I am not. Increase? Good question. My initial answer would have been no, and that many people won't submit the coins to NCS anyway. What I find to be a twist in how this question was posed is that the submissions included coins that were either in NGC holders already (which seems to me that they SHOULD BE subject to the NGC Guarantee), or were in original government rolls/packaging. Has anyone else seen an increase in BB

Is the creation of NCS prompted NGC to put more coins in BB? I have been sending in coins to be graded for years now. I have also been collecting coins for over 30 years. I think I have a good eye for problem coins. Recently I have have sent in some coins to be graded that in my experience had no problems, including moderns right out of the roll. Of my last two submissions 6 have come back in a BB, 3 of those were broke out of NGC holders. I don't know if it is just me but, it seems that since

Moving up in ranks

Jack of all trades, master of none (or few anyway) Well, as of today, this week I had moved up in the overall rankings from 73rd position to 69th. For fun, I checked to see what kind of scores there were between me and the top rankings, and they are staggering. However, the difference in scores between me and say the "Top 50" are not so intimidating. Capped Bust Half Reference Book

My copy of "US Early Half Dollar Die Varieties 1794-1836" by Don Parsley has arrived. This is a really cool book on Capped Bust Half Dollars. I should be able to attribute die varieties using it. This will probably open a whole new world of CBH's for me. The hard covered book has nearly 800 pages with black and white pictures of die states on every page. This is my real first coin reference book.

The Lincoln 2-roll Birthplace Cent sets from the US Mint (SOLD OUT)

As previously mentioned by another author, and in another journal entry of mine, the Lincoln Cent roll pair is sold out at the Mint's web site. As the other author, I am SHOCKED by this. I mean, considering these are not making their way to banks at all, I can't believe that the Mint is not marketing more of these for sale, I mean seriously -- they are a HUGE mark-up item for them, charging $8.95 for two rolls of 50 cents each, one each for P&D. The End of a Seemingly Long and Interesting Journey

The final word on my Ultra High Relief. As I am writing this journal, my Ultra High Relief is on its way home with a grade of MS-69, Early Releases. Once home, it will be photographed and taken to the safe deposit box, ending a seemingly long and interesting journey for me. The mint is sold out of 2009 Lincoln birthplace cents.

I have no idea if they will have any more for sale. I will call some banks and see if any of them have any new rolls of these cents. They should be showing up there by now, right? I have not see coins like this disappear unless it was the 90% silver coins that disappeared in 1964. Dishonest Dealers - buying raw coins in general

You aren't the only one who has been burned I saw the previous posting about buying raw coins on eBay, and even specifically asking the sellers if the coins had been cleaned. Now, the first seller adamantly saying NO strikes me as a refund waiting to happen, at least in accordance with ANA guidelines, if the seller is an ANA member. I can't get Lincoln Cents either

I'm in Connecticut, so presumably we have a different Federal Reserve Bank than Dallas. I also deal with a credit union primarily, so I am not sure who their supplier is, but they actually told me "why don't you try a commercial bank." Needless to say, I am composing a complaint letter to the credit union's advisory board expressing my concern that not only a teller, but a representative (in writing via email) would tell me to go to a commercial bank.
