Greetings Collectors,
Just got in from work and found a "pink slip" on my door from USPS. I had a substitute mailperson today or my guy would have left my parcel in the lock box. It's kinda neat when you have that kind of relationship with your mail carrier. I know what it really is and that not only does he trust me to not come back and say I didn't get something when I did, he does not want to drive down to the end of my "dirt lane" to not find me not
WHAT Are The Current Rates per coin, or Coin Sets, for grading, on average, for the newbies?
I was looking for a Newbie Guide first off, so I would not bother you at SGC, hoping to find rates per coin average. Since I have 20 Silver Eagles, and Some other annual Proof sets to be encased and graded, Yet found no rates per coin, or number of coins. FOr Example the 2006 anniversary set eagle silver dollars, and many other sets. The sets should be mailed as they arrived from the mint, or as I have
... But not one of my new 2009 Lincolns.
It practically took an act of congress to get my 2009 cents, but it finally happened. I live close to Salt Lake City, and these new pennies were nowhere to be had. I went to Wells Fargo, the largest bank in Utah, they said "nope...no can do". Apparently we have a surplus of pennies already so the Fed in Denver won't send us any. So I went to my other bank, Zion's Bank, and basically I told the same thing. Fooey!!
I was able to contact the CEO of
"OLE" Honest Abraham
I have waited for this coins ever since I read they was coming out, I was able to recently purchase the PF & MS 70 of the new Lincoln Commemoratives. Now I have them, now the search starts for the pennies.
I wonder if anyone else did this as a kid...
For as long as I've been able to remember my mother kept an old piggy-bank in her room that was made to look like a mailbox. It didn't lock itself; instead it had a little tiny padlock with a tiny key that she kept hanging on the wall on a Marvin the Martian key chain (Marvin was her favorite Looney Toon). She'd put tons of change from her (massive) purse (which we always complained must literally have bricks in it.. but no, mostly coins...) into th
This nation was founded on the premise of capitalism and freedom, but yet we still choose to be stupid...
The mint misses so many opportunities to actually capitalize on their audience, it's amazing to me that it still exists. They run some things into the ground, even after years of unprofitability, Congress makes stupid decisions about how to run the mint and the Secret Service meddles where they don't belong... Ok, admitedly that's about as anti-American as I can get. I bleed the ole' red,
And if there ARE any, they will be extremely limited..
Greetings!
As many of you who have read any of my entries here at all know, I really do cherish the SAE's. I am just over half way to completing the SAE set, and a long way from completing the Proof SAE set, but I do cherish the coins very much and have felt a real gap this year with the Mint not producing these coins so far this year.
I have this very strange feeling that there will be no "collectors coins" produced this year due
Strategies for building inexpensive sets with key dates and having fun doing it.
Not all my collections are contained within my registry or signature sets. For instance, I have a complete date and mint Mercury Dime set housed in an intercept shield folder (less the over dates). Most of the coins in this set grade good or very good, with higher grades in the later years. One coin in the set, the 1916-D, is NGC certified AG-3. The design for the Mercury dime is one of my favorites and plugging
I am forced to sell some of my collection.
The poor economy has hit home. My wife has been out of work for 6 months, I am only working every other week at this time, and the bills still need to be paid.
My goals for this year have now been put on hold and I have to make some sacrifices that I really did not want to make. I have spent many hours building my collection and I didn?t want to let any of my coins go, but it just had to happen.
So two weeks ago, I sent all of my Morgan Dollars an
Its been a long wait for my relatively early order
Fingers crossed mine is one of those early boxes and somehow has two in it.. I'd appreciate the bonus, its been 3 months and I completed the order at 12:29
Fingers are crossed, everything is crossed, for the fabled MS70PL
Hah great work NGC .. my Koalas are in Quality Control and my $1 mint errors for my set are scheduled for grading.
I will also be sending about 10 gilded Koalas soon
Oh what funny trees they must have in Canada?
I normally don?t share stories about bidding wars but the end result of this is just too funny.
A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough (I felt) to purchase a nice 2007 Canadian Maple Leaf in MS68. By the standards of these Canadian coins, an MS68 is pretty darn high. MS69s are fairly rare and MS70s are almost unheard of. Grades in the MS64 to MS67 range are much more common. I was happy to get the coin. It let me add a representative piece for th
Check out the toning on this IHC proof.
I recently had my Indian Head Cent Proof registry set photographed by a very knowledgable board member. I have sent the last batch to be imaged and it will be totally completed. This photo of a 1883 IHC proof shows luster, color and even melt flow in the fields. That combination is very diffucult indeed. Check out my other photos of my registry set and give me your feedback.
I couldn't be more pleased.
Hello all!
A quick note of thanks for all of the replies on my Canadian snowflake.
I was starting to search when I was inundated with so many helpful replies from all the great members in this Society.
I now understand that I can get it graded, but there is, at present, no slot for this "embellished" coin.
I have Sacagaweas...I know about a "no points" coin.
Just the same, I now own one. I also want to thank everyone in unison.
THANK YOU ALL!
I find
Only 3 more to go!
I just received my newest SAE about an hour ago. I was lucky that I was home when the postman rang or I would of had to wait till Saturday...that would have been a bummer!
It's a 1997 SAE PF-69UC that came out of the envelope that I basicly ripped open as soon as I got it in my hands! Adding this coin to my collection now brings me down to just 3 more to go. I need the 1994 and both of the 1995 SAEs to finish it up. But the "W" might take some time to get.
I have really

A snowy April day in Salt Lake City as I write this, and once again the weather has me waxing nostalgic and feeling (this time) optimistic.
In exactly 7 days I will register for classes at the community college to embark on my journey towards my degree in political science, and I am feeling rather euphoric about my decision to get back into college after leaving classes about 10 years ago a year shy of my A.A.S. degree in therm
No matter how much you might love something, sometimes you have to let it go.
I was lurking around a little while ago and came across this Gettysburg Commemorative that was absolutely magnificent. I mean, the kind of magnificent that would make a coin collector drool. Alas, with that quality also came a hefty price tag. I wanted to pay it. Ooooh, I did. But common sense took hold, and now I've resigned myself to the fact that I can only window shop. Or since I'm using my PC, I should say "Wind
These coins are having a big comeback!
Classic silver commemoratives were minted from 1892 to 1954. They have commemorated everything from Columbus discovering the Americas to the Bridgeport, Connecticut centennial.
The price ranges are as varied as the topics covered by the coinage. Most falling in the $150 to $900 range. It is clear that the best part of Classic commemoratives is the ?bang for the buck.? Most have distribution under 30,000 and some post numbers as low as 5,000.

Here's what I get for impulse shopping.
Hello again everyone.
I just got carried away and bought a coin that caught my eye.
It's a Canadian Snowflake?
I dunno......my French is lousy too.
It's a $20 silver proof with 7 Swarovski crystals. One clear in the center of the reverse, and 6 amethyst crystals in the snowflake.
It is supposedly .9999 silver? Mintage is 7500.
I need some Canadian coin expetise on this one.
1.) How big is this coin in diameter?
2.) What does it weigh
Told myself I wasn't going to purchase raw coins any more, but I couldn't help myself
Bought a few Morgans, an Indian Head Cent, and this little beauty that I'm really tickled about. If it comes back NO GRADE after I submit it, I will DEFINITELY stay out of the raw coin market
