My Latest Acquisitions

Two beautiful coins that will grace my collection. I receive a free newsletter in my E-mail featuring numismatic news and information from numismaster.com. Periodically, they feature articles on foreign coin designs and provide links to foreign mints. Frequently, the Perth Mint buys advertising space on the newsletter. Many times, I have perused the Perth Mint?s website to see what?s cooking in Australia. One particular newsletter highlighted coin designs from France and provided the web li

Does the Person Make the Collection, OR The Collection Make the Person?

This is where Signature sets come in.... Greetings!! It has been a few days since my last post as I have been busy getting the air conditioning systems in the buildings I am responsible for ready for summer, as well as pool boiler start-ups for public pools I am also responsible for, AND getting registered for college coming up in May. I have had some time to ponder the effects of having a collection and nurturing the collection, and adding to the collection. I wondered the other day d

The Winner is.....

I need a drum roll please...............     Namvette68I was mildly surprised, that only 2 people responded (by email) to my trivia contest. The answer being "Electrolytic Cleaning". Namvette guessed reverse electrolysis, which is close enough in my book to make him a winner. Besides... it was my contest and I make (change) the rules. So.. Namvette, email me your mailing address and I will get you a nice shiney new roll of 2009-D Lincon Cents out to you. What surprised me even more though,

Submission Disapointment but...

I have no right to complain... Greetings Collectors, All my submissions are now back at home as of today and boy what a mixed bag. As I have mentioned before, I sent three separate invoices off at the same time and an additional one a week later. The latter arrived Sat. and the "triple" arrived yesterday via "pink slip" which I picked up at the Post Office this afternoon. While some of the grades were great, some were not and I had six "body bags". Before I share the results I want to say

A little good news!

This will at least please someone.one coin, one Hello fellow collectors.....friend and foe. Like it or not.......some members of the Society have chosen the member they feel has the most need. I honored that consensus and passed on the funds. Like it or not, we may save a member. We are all here for the same reason. No members, no Society. I want to thank the members that stepped up to the challenge. I'd like to thank all that emailed me with support, ideas, or actual donations. If th

2008-W Reverse of 2007 SAE

One year later! A year ago April NGC confirmed a major hub variety for the 2008-W Silver Eagle and I have been keeping an eye on them this last year. They created quite a stir for collectors. It ranged from wanting to have the only know variety of the SAE in their collection all the way to other end of the spectrum of "who cares..it's just an over hyped and over priced bullion coin." I am glad I fall into the former! I enjoyed the talk here and on the forum about this SAE. I hope some day to f

Collecting Britannias (Cont.) and encouragement for these tough times

My continuing journey to a top Britannia registry set and putting these tough times in perspective. Despite all the bad that is happening, there is some good too. I had this post on Britannia collecting ready Sunday, but because of all that is going on within the Society, I felt the timing was not right. For those going through adversity I have encouragement. In January I came across adversity of a different kind, while traveling in Brazil on a mission trip, I took seriously ill. I was hosp

I wish that I could help out.

Times are not at all bad, or as bad, as I thought that they would be. Collecting coins is a passion, and a way to get away from what is going on in the world today. The news has got a little better, but still. If I could offer mr. Thompson a job, I would. I am a Journeyman carpenter, here in Calgary, Canada. I have my own buisness, and for a while just after Christmas, I thought that the world was collapsing. Within the last 2 months I am seeing job starts rise to the point that I can't keep u

Community

I'm so glad to to part of this... I'm so glad to part of this community. First of all what want to express my sorrow to Mr. Thompsom. I would have done the same in your shoes. I'm fairly new to this forum, but for what I have read so far I see for my self that I want to be a great part of this.

Paid a visit to Teletrade yesterday

Won a few, lost a few I went out and set some reasonable bids on a number of coins in yesterday's auction. The final bids that I put out were, I thought, quite fair, and for a couple of the coins that I won, I'm sure that the seller was content with the prices paid, even though they may not have wanted to sell them. On a couple of coins, however, there just wasn't any competition, which made me feel guilty. For example, I won a PCGS PR69DCAM First Flight Commemorative Half for $6. I did try, t

Peace be with you

May the Lord bless you and keep you I still own my Lincoln Pennys, my beloved nickels. My Commemorative Set valued at over $5,000 just sold for $1,600. Wow, talk about another dose of reality. This site is not about coin selling, that is correct; however I would like all to remember the name of this site the Collector's Society. Society requires an ability of a number of individuals to formulate rules, designate responsibilities and formulate a means for communicating in a respectful, al

A Penny For Your thoughts... Part 2

Trivia Time Again... I am going to give away 2 rolls of the new Lincoln Cents. The first roll will be broken and I will give 1 of the new pennies to the first 50 people who email me their name and snail mail address. I will confirm your "reservation for a penny". Then you must snail mail me a stamp and I will have your new penny out in a jiff. Now some of you will think "Dude... thats 42 cents to get one penny!!" Well... if you have been looking for these, and have had no luck, think, ho

Making Mountains out of Mole Hills

It's like trying to make dbl. eagles out of noncents! Hi everyone, First of all, let us assume that everyone can read. I know this might be a stretch in some cases and I am aware of what happens when you assume something (you make an out of u and me)! One other thought for the benefit of all; Let's give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Why should we care if someone feels compelled to break the rules for whatever reason? Let NGC police the journal entries if there is a flagrant disrega

Last comment on "Coin Sales".

"I can't beleive we even have to go here!" Greetings Collectors, This is your "High and Mighty" "self centered" "charity slayer" "scripture quoting" destroyer of all thats good in the world, coin collector. I had some spare time after my "grand heist" from the local "Toys for Tots" warehouse and thought I would post a few words while I am parked here waiting on my "fence" to arrive.. Wow, what a firestorm. This will be MY last word on this subject. Any of you who read these journals f

My Two Cents (for what its worth)

Chiming in on the hot issue of the day I am not judging the merits of what "namvette68" is proposing. Neither am I unsympathetic to the plight of other collectors forced to sell their collections to make ends meet. The economy is as it is and we are all in it together. All of us, if we are not selling coins to live, have at least thought about the circumstances that would force us to sell. What I am suggesting is that Collectors Society has other forums where this kind of thing should be taken

Whoaaaaaa!

I cannot believe any of this! Hello to all! I cannot believe a act of kindness or generousity is so poorly taken. I see some members cannot read, and the others didn't comprehend what they read. I am not selling coins using the Society as a vehicle. I donated a few coins for a cash donation. I stood up and offered all I could. Another member stands up and commits. Members helping members. Have I lost someone yet? I can put coins on Ebay, Bonanzle, Craig's list, Amazon, or other venue.

Don't forget what community means

God help us in times of trials. This is my second posting. I've calmed down a bit since I sent an email to W.K.F. Now Gilmore chimes in. I'm well aware that this sites primary purpose is to exchange thoughts and ideas about coin collecting, however, some people actually regard this site as a way to relate what is going on in their lives. I've seen that theme through many postings. What do you guys think a community is about? It's people helping people. We are going through a very difficult ti

Time to start getting anxious again!!

Submission Time Again!! Well it has been over 9 months since I wrote in the journal. I left the journal at that time because of all of the personal attacks on other members at the time and people using the journal to try and sell coins. After reading the most recent journals, I realized that this is still happening. Yesterday NGC received my submissions. I sent in 3 submissions with a total of 52 coins. I get so anxious when I send coins to NGC. I will be clicking the order status at lea

CLARIFICATION

Deal or no deal? Hello everyone! Just to clear up the fine print. The few coins I offered in my last Journal are NOT for sale! I have an Ebay account. I buy and sell there. The coins were, and are being offered as a donation for a fixed sum. I offered them to Society members first. I will give up my coins if another member gives up the cash. A fair gesture? If a member wants to help, it is up to them. My coins are just something to negate the thought of a charity thing. If no mem

O-K I will be the first

A deal for who with a sweeter pot? I am one of many of us that are at hard times. Recently I have had to auction off coins and have another coin auction in a week or so.I have taken a 20% to 35% under value to survive. Namvette68 your first idea is good 15,000 members putting a little money in a pot. At $50 per member it would be $750,000.00. If I didn't care about the rules I would be bold enough to put my coins up for sale on this site for full value+. Your heart seems in the right place, bu
