The $200 Treasure Hunt

This is a story about the everyday treasure hunt of collecting. I was looking through a dealer?s inventory of raw $2.5 Gold Coins. There were about 45 coins in the blue box. They were of all grades and both liberty head and Indian head. They were all common dates nothing too special. This box of coins appealed to me because of the relative affordability of most of the coins (all were under $700). I picked up a few and put them in a pile expecting to buy one from that pile. Boxes of Circulated Kennedy Halves

Plenty of 40% Silver halves still can be found. Recently I have been getting $500 boxes of Half Dollar rolls to search for silver halves. Once in a great while, I find a 90% silver Kennedy but most boxes usually have 5-6 halves that are 40% silver. Just recently I came across a box with 50 silver halves and of those two were 90% silver. I was like winning a small lottery of sorts. I had to get one.. Apparently this will be an annual issue as well. Why will I buy them ? low enough mintage of 2500.. On the negative side they are costly, about the same gold markup as UK mint gold.. their 12500 etc sell out, so 2500 ? The 2005 Perth Mint sov with book had a mintage of 7500 and sold out. Another Nice Weekend...

QUALITY CONTROL?

I wish I had that job. Hello everyone! I just got two boxes from NGC. My little proof set(1960), and a few Canadian in the other. I got my 1c slab back with a gouge in the face of the slab. My Canadian, a hologram, has abrasion(slight) over the hologram. I guess when you try to get your coins preserved, and presentable, you need to send them in to be reslabbed a few times until it is right? No kudos for quality control today. Am I the only one starting to see this? Have a great day!

2009 Louis Braille Results

3 70's out 6, not too bad. I just checked NGC's site and they had posted the results for the 6 Louis Braille commemoratives "3 proofs and 3 uncirulated" I had sent in. Below are the results. I really thought 2 of the proofs would could back as 70's. PF69 PF69 PF70 The 3 uncirculated coins came back as expected. Final Grades posted... Now's the time to celebrate? My final grades have been posted. I actually did just slightly better than I'd hoped. My semester GPA was a 3.571 and the cumulative average managed to fall to just a 3.764. I think this means I'll make the dean's list this semester and it is increasingly likely that I'll manage to graduate with more than a 3.700 and meet the requirements for graduating Magna Laude. My recent US Mint experience

While on a business trip to Washington I am in Washington this week for business and after the working day is complete, I thought that I would go over to Union Station where the US Mint has a desk where they sell their items. I know, I know, nothing is free, but.... Just received my Priority Selections bulletin from Pinnacle Rarities and they gave the web address for Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins which can 'be viewed in its entirety online for FREE'.
