Banks here in N.E. Fl. have no "cents" or P.R. quarters?

And they don't plan to order any... Greetings, Forgot to mention in my earlier post that I have been to over a dozen banks, some I have accts. with and others as well. No one has the Lincoln cents or the P.R. quads. I have purchased, at face value, all the state quarters from my banks here up'til now. I would get four rolls of quarters and the pres. $ and send two to a friend in Vail Co. and he would send me the D's for my P's. It has worked well up until now. Fearing I would be left out on

Coin Purchase Withdrawals...

"Don't enjoy leaving town unless it has to do with Numismatics" Greetings Collectors, A very dear friend who I grew up with, and actually started collecting coins with, called me last week to invite me up to Charleston S.C. to do a day of offshore sport fishing. As I got ready for my Thursday through Saturday mini vacation the excitement was coming and going due to the fact that I would be away from my computer and my coins for several days. I tried to minimize the discomfort by bringing my

NGC Complaint

Leaving early at the Whitman Altanta Coin Show NGC loses. I had 10 coins that I needed grading so when I was planning a business trip to Atlanta last week, I thought that I would spend an extra day and go to the Whitman Coin Show at Cobb Galleria last Saturday to both shop for additions to my collection and to submit some raw coins to NGC for grading. To my surprise, the NGC tables were packed up and gone on Saturday. Being a resourceful person who still wanted the coins graded, including

Four Years Later

I have been collecting for Four years, how am i doing? It was after my freshman year in college that I began collecting coins seriously. I had always love to see my father's collection but never had one of my own. Exactly four years has passed since I started my own collection and a lot has changed. I have since graduated from Bentley University and I have a job as a financial analyst. I have expanded by collection extensively to include a near full type set from 1799 to present. I have begu

Family Time; Lessons Learned

Moments and Concepts I'm often given to wonder why I ended up becoming a coin collector. I only started about 3 years ago but it's something I had always wanted to do. The question became, what put the thought in my head? The answer I ultimately arrived at was that there were many events that occurred throughout my childhood that inclined me towards collecting coins. There weren't many coin collectors in my family really, but my family exhibits certain behaviors and modes of thought that were

Coin Set Separation

Lucky Find " missing points" Society & Friends; Its raining here so I decided to separate my set in values for future upgrading. As I was doing so I came across a coin I have had for a while, but this 1894-0 was not registered in my set. I quickly added it and 366 point value thinking wow a good find.If I had not decided to split my set into keepers(500 points and up)and trade-offs. I don't intend on trading or selling until I have acquired the full set but I did want to split the set

In Retrospect

A few here.....a few there! Hello everyone! Not an overwhelming week by any means. I did get MS 66 on the new HABS Canadians. I also sent two proofs to PCGS, and seven went to NGC. I have a $50 Cook Island coin I'd like to send in. It looks perfect to me on both sides. I think the graders are either lacking something on world coins, or there's a prejudice concerning superior quality. A 70 is almost non-existent. Anyway, I take what they give me. There are no price guides to compare diffe

A Busy Week

More looking at coins, no buying...lately... Greetings!! This has been a sleep deprived, worrisome sort of week as I have been getting ready for my college classes, and I have been anxiously awaiting the grant money, and loan so I can buy my text books, etc. Fortunately, my grant money paid my tuition in full with enough money to spare to buy one of my texts, but I am still awaiting my loan to finish up buying some other supplies...and school starts tomorrow. You gotta love the speed a

Too Good to Pass Up!

One more vote for toned coins...a real beauty!! You probably can't see it very well in the picture but it looks as though someone took a very fine brush and touched up 70% of the reverse in gold and left some high points silver. The obverse has rainbow toning next to the rim from 5-11 o'clock (picture in registry). Happy hunting! Dan 1920-S Walking Liberty Half

US Mint and Scheduled delivery times?

Good things come to those who wait? Well this is what I got from the Mint site thought it might be of use. Then again maybe not... From the U.S. Mint Site Shipping Delays: Due to current fulfillment issues we are experiencing shipping delays on all orders. It is taking 4 to 5 weeks to process and ship orders to customers. For more information, please see our FAQ #218. Good Luck, and BTW I was told by Customer Service at the Mint they do not update the web but once a week usally on Thur

Accugrade immigrants find a new home at NGC-Part 9

Four tokens cross the boarder to find a better life. It all started on eBay when a seller started selling 18th century British Conder tokens which had been graded by Accugrade. He started with lower graded (EX-AU) tokens which I didn't need but I kept looking what he had and low and behold he started listing some mint state Conders. I told myself I would only bid on MS-63 or higher grades thinking if I crossed them over to NGC they'd be knocked down 2 or 3 grades and then I'd still have mint s

Nice Arrival in the Mail Today

Fun little package. I'm finally home, working on research and waiting on grades. I spent most of the day on the road for work (5 hours in the car just can't get any more fun). When I got back to the house though I found a nice little package waiting for me. It contained my latest acquisition that I won in an auction on Saturday. It's a Russian 3 Roubles Ballet (yes, that's not a mistake) coin. It's made of 0.900 silver and weighs 34.5 grams (that's on troy ounce of silver in the coin). This

Collecting First Spouses

Building a top rated registry set is more difficult than I had anticipated. One of the most intriguing registry sets in my collection is the current First Spouse gold coins. Two features about this series captivate me. The first being, since the coins feature our nation?s First Ladies, they fit nicely into my ?Inspirational Ladies? signature set. The second is that they contain ? oz. of pure gold. Moreover, there is something appealing to me about that yellow metal. To say I have gold fever is

The Mint must be caught up on Back Orders

I have notice my coin is on the way after ordering it May 6! On May 6th I decided to order the Anna Harrison First Spouse gold coin from the Mint. Today I got my e-mail notice stating my purchase is on the way! When I ordered the coin I thought I'd be doing good if the mint got the coin to me next month, but eight days? That must be close to record time! Even at that it is a little odd because I ordered the Harrison dollar coin and medal set early last month and I am still waiting on that. Oh
