Four tokens cross the boarder to find a better life.

It all started on eBay when a seller started selling 18th century British Conder tokens which had been graded by Accugrade. He started with lower graded (EX-AU) tokens which I didn't need but I kept looking what he had and low and behold he started listing some mint state Conders. I told myself I would only bid on MS-63 or higher grades thinking if I crossed them over to NGC they'd be knocked down 2 or 3 grades and then I'd still have mint state tokens. The bidding was hot and heavy between myself and two other bidders. One bidder seemed to have very deep pockets as he won most of the lots. I won 4 and and sent them to NGC along with 2 raw tokens I had. Here are the results. A 1794 Herefordshire D&H-5 graded MS-64 RB by Accugrade came back a NGC MS-65 RB. What, ya you heard right. To get a upgrade was shocking. I think the great eye appeal was the reason. It has nice even toning with no marks or spots. Accugrade may have given it the 64 due to tiny bit of soft strike in the center. Next up is a Middlesex-Eaton's D&H-301 given a MS-63 by ACG and returned as a NGC-62 RB. That's more in line with my thinking on this token and I'm happy when a ACG comes back from NGC only one grade lower. What a diff. in the grading tabs that ACG and NGC have. ACG has on its tab for this token- D.I. Eaton Token, not even listing the county it's from or if it's red, red brown, or brown. Next is a Norfolk-Norwich D&H-40 grade MS-64 RB by ACG, I like this grading tab, all it says is- Weaving Loom Token, classic laziness on ACGs part to look it up in the book. Oh ya, it's now in a NGC holder as MS-63 RB. The last Accugrade token is a Suffolk-Blything D&H-19 graded MS-65 RB. The best of the 4 tokens and this is the one I was thinking may get up-graded. It's that nice. NGC saw it as the same grade, MS-65, but called it a brown instead of ACG RB. Can't figure that out as it has as much red as the Middlesex token and it's a brighter red. Oh well, I'm very happy with the returns as I got 1 up-grade, 1 as the same, and 2 down-grades of only one grade. The 2 raw tokens Isent in came back as - Lancashire D&H-88 NGC-MS-63 RB and a Suffolk-D&H-16a NGC-64 RB. One of these days I have to put up the story of my 1928 Ireland proof set. Next time I guess.
