My Latest Acquisition

More gold! Did a BIN with this one. 1877-S PCGS XF40 Liberty Half Eagle. There were 26,700 minted. I got nearly $75 in rebates on it (eBay Bucks, MSN Cashback Instant Rebate and Big Crumbs) which made it an excellent buy. Here is the image I made of it.

WALMART IS THE PLACE!

The mint works in strange and mysterious ways. Hi Collectors! I personally could care less about the new coins. I have had a few ask me about them , and I've told them that our(upstate NY)banks will not order the new coinage. They don't need it. The only place I have received anything new is WalMart. Yup!!!!! the biggest cash flow in today's economy. NGC has a paragraph about it too. As most of you know, I am hot on the proof Sacs. These were to replace the paper note in 2000-2001

WELL THEN!!

I GUESS I WAS PUT IN MY PLACE! YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO TRIES TO DO A NOBEL DEED, AND OTHERS JUST CANT STAND IT. I GUESS ROSA PARKS SHOULD HAVE JUST SAT IN THE BACK OF THE BUS, AND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. SHOULD HAVE JUST KEPT HIS MOUTH SHUT! AND DON'T FORGET ABOUT OUR FOUNDING FATHERS WHO TOLD ENGLAND TO GO STUFF IT, MAYBE THE COLONIES SHOULD HAVE PUT THEM ON IGNORE! WHERE WOULD WE BE NOW? YOU KNOW IT MAY NOT HAVE WORKED BUT, WHAT WOULD IT HAVE HURT TO TRY. I GUESS THOSE OUT THERE WHO DONT COLLE

NGC IMAGING - UPDATED

I am glad to see it's not just me having trouble! Hello everyone! I have been trying to see my 1960 large date Lincoln 1c with the NGC verification tab. All I get for 3 days is image is not available. I thought they may not have imaged it. When the Sacs were done I looked to see them and they all looked great! Now nothing!.....There are no images available at all. My scanner is out on loan for a week while another collector catches up with his coins. That's my fault for being Mr. Ni

Banks and pocket change...

The idea to "buy up" all the change at our local banks probably will never work. Here's why I believe it won't - 1. The local banking systems don't really rely upon the Fed to make up their coin supply. Most locally owned independant banks rely more upon their own systems to acquire change and as such most of them are unwilling to sell rolled coins in bulk. We have several locally owned banks and credit unions close by to where I work and most of them subsist off of Coinstar type programs. M

ADD ME TO THE RANKS OF DISSENTERS!

Today totally wiped out yesterday......obliterated it! Hi all! Time for me to vent! I cracked out a PF70 and sent it in for grading. It is now a PF 63. Oh well! I just got my "overnighted" package from the US Mint of the 2009 Proofs. If they were sent overnight.......why are they just getting here a day before my graded sets? Oh, I forgot, it's the US Mint. I opened the package and then the box. My bad!!!! The Sac is scratched and has a finger print on both sides. The pennies look ha

1960 LARGE DATE 1C

Even a 67 would have been great! Hi all! I sent a very nice graded cent to NGC for grading. It was done already by a well known third party grading company. People buy their coins every day! I got it for $2.50. I said to myself.......Self....why not? So I did. I cracked out a 70 and hoped for a 68. Losing 2 grades is to be expected even with a very nice specimen. As you can see, I was wrong. I will have 2 options when I get it in hand. Laugh until I cry, or throw it in the "Goodwill box"

About the 2009 pennies

Just thought you should know.... About the 2009 pennies you can't just buy out all the banks supply of pennies , believe me it won't work. Also they only minted 632,000 2009 pennies so, guess what, there are not very many of them. Just thought you should know that.

US MINT

It's not first in first out!! Its confirmed. I ordered the 2009 proof sets at 12:05pm on June 1, 2009. Order is still in process. I made another order 12:31pm on June 2, 2009 for the same proof sets. The June 2nd order has been received. I am glad all coins look good and are on there way for grading. It may be my imagination, but it looks as if the Kennedy has a high relief feature as it looks more concave then the previous years.

A few questions for NANVETTE68

My jaw just hit the friggin floor!!! Why would you crack out a PF70 and resubmit? With my limited grading skills I think I could notice the difference between a PF70 and a PF63. What were you hoping for? What coin was it? Did you have this coin graded originally or did you buy it already slabbed PF70? If you bought it slabbed and it looked not even close to a PF70...a mistake in the grade...why even buy it? If you were crossing it over why take the chance with a new grade...just buy

Picked up more St. Quarters

More PF70 Quarters Hey Community, Just wanted to share that I added a few more state quarters for my set. Got 2005 Silver PF70 quarters for addition to my set. Also picked up the Clad 2005 PF70 quarters to complete my 2005 Proof set to put me in 1st place in the category. Next goal is to get the 2009 set completed. Things will be slowing down a lot now, I had to quit both of my jobs due to return of cancer and the beginning of chemo in 2 weeks. Funds will be tight, but I will be trying

TODAY IS MY CLAIM TO FAME DAY!

A "PERFECT" 11? Hello everyone! WOW! Are sets going crazy today. NGC has released a lot of the new proofs, and everyone is buying them up to complete their sets. Me too! I have gone almost a whole year, waiting to see what was happening to my "Perfect 10" Sacagawea sets". I never figured on the 2009 to be a "Sacagawea". However.......it was slotted into the set, and will drive me to the poorhouse! Being fortunate to have made a few friends, I have added this newest coin to my exis

Experiences of a New Numismatist

New in SOME Things - Quite Experienced in Others Well, this website says that I am supposed to share my experiences and thoughts by way of this "JOURNAL" entry; so-o-o, I have just had quite a harrowing experience ~ at the bequest of whoever programmed this mess. I had encountered a problem ~ attempting to locate a way by which I could complete a "bio" on here; and, the simplest means I could locate to discover the needed information was to use the "Contact Us" form they have on this website

EXACTLY MY POINT!!

BUY THEM ALL!! BULLY HAS A POINT, BUT I STILL THINK IF WE ALL BOUGHT EACH DENOMINATION, AND CLEARED THEM ALL OUT, BECAUSE THERE ARE ALOT OF US WHO DO WANT THE LOWEST MINTAGE OF DIMES AND NICKELS IN ALMOST HALF A CENTURY. I TOO WANT TO BE ABLE TO GIVE FACE VALUE FOR THE LINCOLN CENTS, THE JEFFERSON NICKELS, THE ROOSEVELT DIMES AND THE TERRITORY QUARTERS. SO EVERYONE BUY AS MANY ROLLS OF WHATEVER AND WITHIN A WEEK, BRINKS AND THE LIKES WILL BE OUT AND HAVE TO REGROUP VIA THE RESERVES, THEN WE'

Open Reply to Gotta Have It and Lincoln Cent collectors everywhere.

I am with you -- at least partly. Considering that most of us have not even seen the new Lincoln Cents in circulation, maybe not at all because they sold out at the Mint and cost a fortune on eBay, I personally like the idea of MILLIONS of coin collectors "buying out" the supply of coins. However, I am not interested currently in the 2009 nickel, nor the dime. I want those Lincoln Cent rolls and bags released -- and now! It doesn't hurt that they are also the least expensive thing making

My Barbie arrived on Monday...

Ok, here is a grown man saying that, but it REALLY is numismatic related, REALLY...it is! I swear! If anyone is curious, I put the coin in a Signature Set called Milestones, since it was celebrating Barbie's 50th Anniversary. That said, I have a couple photos included, but you can see pretty sharp image of my specific coin with the certification number in "Verify NGC Certification" tool. The coin achieved a proud PF70UC from NGC, who graded the coin because it was in fact a Perth Mint colo

GETTING THE OLD COINS OUT OF CIRCULATION IS A NOBLE IDEA BUT FLAWED

IT WON'T WORK AT LEAST IN MY AREA The banks where I live, northeast Ohio don't deal with the Federal Reseve, the use Brinks, Wells Fargo and other services like that. Banks and stores get and turn in thier change to these companies and they just keep recycling it. A lot of times when new coins are available they are mixed in with old circulated coins, they just dump the bags of new coins in with the old and the automatic rollers do the rest. Occasoinal we might get a sealed box of coins that t

WE NEED TO GET THE OLD COINS OUT OF CIRCULATION TO GET THE NEW ONES, EVERYONE MUST READ THIS ENTRY

LETS GET US THE NEW COINS, A VERY SIMPLE METHOD THAT I BELEIVE WOULD WORK REALLY WELL!! IF WE ALL WENT TO THE BANK ON A CERTAIN DAY SUCH AS JUNE 15(NEXT MONDAY) AND WE ALL BOUGHT AS MANY ROLLS OF COINAGE WE COULD AFFORD, SUCH AS BUYING ONE $25.00 BOX OF CENTS, 10 ROLLS OF DIMES, 12 ROLLS OF NICKELS, AND 10 ROLLS OF QUARTERS, THAT IS A TOTAL OF $199.00. THE KICKER IS, ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS SIT ON THESE ROLLS FOR A WEEK AND THEN ON JUNE 22 GO BACK TO OUR BANKS AND GET MORE ROLLS-THESE SHOULD BE

Frustrations of Coin Photography

each coin is different I had read recently of someone who was not happy with a coin's "in hand" appearance as compared to auction photos. Personally I tend to give a bit of leeway as to whether the auction company intentionaly "doctors" photos to make a coin look better. On occasion I get a coin that has a spot or hairline that was not visible when photoed at a certain angle but shows up if the coin is tilted or turned when holding it. I also sometimes get a coin that thrills me to no end wh

Lincoln's on their way back.. too many 69's again !

Not as many Lincoln 70's as I wanted ! I guess someone out there will be happy to buy them around mint price.. I only ended up with 9 of 25. So 16 PF69 UC with the special brown label (thanks NGC!! at least they were nice enough to do that, I did send in a nice lot). All these 69's and possibly some 70's will be on the money marketplace via Coindude at some point soon, and the remainder will be put on eBay if not sold None of the 4 silver proof eagles made 70 so will part with them too.
