I made it a year....

A positive year and hopes for the future.... After joining this society about a year ago with just a few Franklin half dollars, I wondered what I was doing. While going through the registry one realizes that what you have in the long run is very insignificant. But then I realized that hey...everything I have is mine and shut up and be proud of it. So it was off to the races. I love silver and the war years so I thought I would give it a shot. I have made a few submissions and acquired some mat

My 2nd 2009 MS 70 Early Release Silver American Eagle has Landed

Get em soon if you can!! Greetings! Now, I am not a panicky sort. Nor am I particularly greedy and I sometimes cringe when a coin collection is called a "horde" as it implies the collector is greedy, which makes me greedy by association as a collector. But I can't help but urge any of you SAE collectors out there to get the 2009 SAE's NOW in MS 70 condition before it is too unaffordable. I urge you to get the MS 70 as there are about 8500 of these graded by NGC, whereas there are over

A decent grading return!

Strange results?! I just checked and saw that my coins had been graded and ready to ship. It is funny how nervous I get when I click on the invoice and prepare to see the grades, right? Well, I did get some really good news and some weird news. First the good news. All three modern Commems i had done all came back MS70!!Yeayy!! All of the proof silver eagles came back pr69, decent but nothing to jump about. The weirdest one though is one of the new bronze Lincoln proof set pennies. Three wer

Playing with lights while I wait for my new camera..

I bought a new camera (Canon SX100 IS) While I don't have it yet, I will have it by this time next week So I've been playing with lights and my phone camera. I just updated most of my Australia's Sovereign type set with new images. It will be fun to do them all again once I work out the new camera, and get the lights just right.. some are still quite bad images and the scans were better. I am also updating my Kookaburra set with images, and more Let me know what you think ! here is my 18

Is this crazy or is it me

1999 S Silver PF70UC Kennedy I was fortunate to purchase a 1999 S Silver PF70UC Kennedy graded by NGC this past week to add to my collection. Here's the crazy part. NGC has a value of $400.00 for the coin.....PCGS values it at $1800.00 Now I know that PCGS coins come with a "certain" premium" but this much difference ??? I'd be a fool to crack this coin and submit it to PCGS and "mommy didn't raise no fool" but I must admit the thought briefly crossed my mind. I personally just have nev

Tried my luck with halves also

got a $500 box As other members have stated my bank does not have a lot of halves come thru. I had them order one $500 box for me 4 weeks in a row. The first $500 came out of my savings account. After going thru the first one and finding nothing I just traded one box for another. after going thur 4,000 half dollars and finding one 40% Kennedy I put a stop to that madness. The rolls in the boxes were all machine wrapped in paper they looked nice but contained nothing worth talking about. Jim

Boxes of Kennedy Halves

Would you believe finding Franklins or Walking Liberties?? I tend to order 2 or 3 boxes of half dollars from my local bank every week. It seems that the silver ones have dried up for now. I did mention that in the last month or so I found two Franklins in one box. That alone I was really surprised but... wait for it... The following week I found two Walking Liberties in one box...I could hardly believe it. Yes, they were the common dates but still one would think they all would have be

Searched to no avail - not one piece of silver

I went through roll after roll of Kennedys -- nada. So often, my financial institution doesn't even HAVE Kennedy half dollars. During one of my rare visits, they actually had some rolls -- over $200 worth. So, I decided to buy every last roll they had, at $10 per roll as most of you know. I figure I go through them, and whatever I find, great. Whatever is useless to me, I can either spend, or just re-deposit, it is money after all. Well, after a week, I've finally gotten around to going

Newest Belgian Congo Rarity!

Must-See Belgian Congo Mule I have just received my newest Belgian Congo rarity back from PCGS. This is a must see coin. It is a 1936/1922 1 Franc Mule. It is the size of a 1 franc coin in nickel-bronze (the composition of the 5 francs coin of 1936). One side is the design of a 1936 5 Francs (KM24) and the other side a 1922 1 Franc (KM21). Weight before slabbing was 9.23 g This is truly a very cool coin and probably unique or close to it. I was pleased to see PCGS accurately confirm t

One more down Five left to go

MS61 replaces AU55 "I'm at Peace" gained another mint state coin tonight I was able to pick up A MS61 1928s Peace Dollar to up grade the set. There are five AU coins left to go. It is going to be very hard to rise much higher in the standings. All I'm am doing is maintaining my place. I will try and up grade my gallery with the new 28s and hope to start on the commems this week end. I think I have recouped all the points that I lost when I removed the ASE's and will now start gaining ground in

THE DESCRIPTION FITS THIS COIN?

I told you they don't know the difference either. Hi Everyone! I just couldn't resist this one too. Here's an ongoing(Australian)auction description. My eyes aren't seeing what my mind says I am reading. "Nice beginners rare variety coin. Oh so hard to obtain and frankly the higher grades are very difficult to tell. June in Review

And a great computer program to track my coins. Once again just a very little movement with my coins this month. I only purchased one coin in June....I upgraded my 2003 SAE from a PF-69 to a PF-70. The 70s seem to more affordable now for the MS and Proof SAEs and also for the Modern Comms. In the last few months most of the spare money has been going to small improvements to the inside of our house which has been keeping me busy. Lots of painting, crown moulding, chair rails, and window cov

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS?

I see experts are like playoffs. Don't get me started on playoffs. Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a happy, and safe 4th. I tried a week ago to query the braintrust of the Society, and I am still as baffled as before. HELP!!! I recently acquired a box of pre-decimal New Zealand coins. There are a few 1945 pennies. I'd like to send them to NGC for grading, however, there is also a slot for the 1945 "burnished flan" coin? How does one tell the difference? KM#s are 13 and 13A. I can

Presidential Proof 70 Dollars

Presidential Ponderings I started my Presidential Dollar set after looking at one of the wifes coins. I really liked the design, and thought the dollars were very cool. It was also a set I could put together at reasonable cost, unlike the State quarter set I was also working on. I bought the 09 year set first, winning an auction on E-Bay on 3-28-09. It was a complete set of the four, in the new NGC Edge-View holder. Really cool looking set! I then got busy, winning the 07 and 08 year s

554 & other ramblings...

After spending about a month teetering in the high 500's... I've landed a rather secure spot in the rankings at 554 as of today. It has taken the month of June to reach where I currently stand. Details of some of the newcomers are listed below. First, this week I sent in 3-sets of the Clad Proof Mint Set (minus the quarters and Presidential dollars) for grading. We'll see how this works out. I'm hoping and praying I get at least one 70 for each coin submitted (Lincolns to Sac). I'll kee

"Liberty" woven into the fabric of our coinage!

The history of Liberty on our coins in a nutshell and remembering the meaning of the Fourth of July. The fourth of July is a perfect time to reflect on the freedom and liberty we enjoy in the United States. The themes of freedom and liberty are an integral part of the designs of our coinage since their first minting in 1793. Our nation founded on western ideals has its origins in ancient Greek and Roman philosophies and religious freedom. To understand our coinage, we need to understand its or
