Re NCS

Cleaning coins Its been a while since my last boring journal about Icelandic coins. This time its about the cleaning of coins. First NCS does not clean coins. That is a term that was used by people years back to describe coins that has been cleaned in someway that is dedectable at first glance. I have been around coins for over fourty years and I have seen some beautiful coins in my time. Many years back before cleaning became a issue a number of dealers I new all told me that 90% of the sil

Quality Control

I HAVE JUST ABOUT HAD IT..... BY WHO'S STANDARDS 1. Quality control is a process employed to ensure a certain level of quality in a product or service. It may include whatever actions a business deems necessary to provide for the control and verification of certain characteristics of a product or service. The basic goal of quality control is to ensure that the products, services, or processes provided meet specific requirements and are dependable, satisfactory, and fiscally sound. 2. Essen

new coins again!

Top Pop/ Ultra Low Pop PFCA coins Hey Everybody, Just placed order for 2 new coins today. Not sure what I will do with them, but they are quite rare. The fist one is a 2000 Lincoln Cent PF70CA! According to NGC the population of this coin is 13 (70)!!!!!! they have only graded 129 in all. The other is a 2002 Jefferson Nickel PF70CA. NGC has only graded 2 of these! 1 in 70 Not sure what the value is as NGC (Numismedia) does not list a value for either one. I paid very little so I think

BEAUTIES TO BODY BAGS - WHO WATCHES? WHO CARES?

REJECTED! Hey all NGC must have known I am upset. My 14 paragraph dissertation on their incompetence got deleted. Papamesa is right. To move the label, you have to hit it hard enough to shatter the case. I have received gouged slabs in a "pristine" shipping box? The NGC scans do not show any damage. How does this happen? If the USPS indeed is handling them this roughly, the packaging is to blame. A paper divider, half full, is chintzy, at best. These coins mostly leave NGC in the c

USPS vs NGC part 2

USPS singles out 1 box out of 5 delivered today to screw with! Im sure that the USPS did not single out the one box that had my 1957 proof set and say WOW let's screw with this one! jxs525 you looked at the picture in the registry OK so did I go back and look at 2534449-001 and 002 and 003 (again) as large as you can get it. then you will see that the paper label is larger than the beveled die cut opening. and that secondly on the left side of slab the label is not underneath the bevel part

ok last one regarding USPS & NGC

ok last one...... Ok, i can see this may get out of hand once again.....so i wont add any more journals after this one. The picture of the smashed slab against the wall....geez i know plenty of kids that would have loved that......anyway for one, thats a different slab....a different design with i believe a recessed area for the paper paper bends paper moves paper warps due to many reasons...it only takes a little edge out of the recessed area for it to slide....maybe the new slabs dont

Re: Quality Control

Yes, I believe it's USPS not NGC as the guilty party Just a few minutes ago I wrote down the cert. number of that out of place label and I checked it out on the NGC verication page. The picture of the coin slab was perfect nothing out of place. So it had to happen during transit. Check it out for yourself. happy collecting! Jimmie

Re: Quality Control

...stands up for QC.....point the finger at your mailman In reference to the previous post regarding the "problems with quality control and his paper insert out of place" This actually happens in transport and not at NGC, the same way you get that little insert back into place (by tapping lightly on its side until its back in the right spot) is the same way it moves out of place (by rough handling, drops etc by USPS) You might say add "some glue to hold it into place".....well im thinking

1883-S Is A Tough Date for a Number of Coins

I purchased a 1883-S Half Eagle MS62 I know 1883-S is tough for Morgan silver dollars but I recently found that is also true for 1883-S Half Eagles. Only 83,200 were minted. I did a BIN for 1883-S MS62 for what is about 2.5 times the price of "common" date half eagles. And I believe the 1883-S is now my highest single point coin. It gets 1865 points. I recently lamented that I was going to have to wait on Charlotte and Dahlonga half eagles, but I decided to sell some of what I have and red

1973D NGC MS67 Lincoln Memorial-Population of 6

What a Pretty Penny Here is one of my latest additions to my Lincoln Memorial set. This is by far my lowest population penny of any date. Not the greatest point value as far as slot scores go but I think it more than makes up for that due to its extremely low population of 6. I will be adding some more photos to all my Lincoln sets this week so check back when you can. As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting.

Picture info needed

Get the picture I want to take pictures of my coins and post them on this site. I have never tried this and want to give it a shot. Can any one recommend a good camera to me that is "easy" to use, will give me a nice shot of the coin and won't break the bank. Thank you David

Horrible experience with local coin store

Well i thought i would take in a few coins just to see what they would offer...save myself some ebay fee's i thought...well what an experience that was! After paying another feebay invoice i decided to see what my local coin shop would offer for some NGC slabbed gold coins. Now i have seen this shop advertise on TV in my area and they proclaimed to be the "highest payer for gold & silver coins" Well what an experience, i had a number of fairly nice coins with me, a couple of ms63 half

Another Great Old Injun

The gold color of the early CN Indians really catches my eye. My lucky streak continued yesterday when I aquirered a great new old coin a PCGS MS63 1862 IHP in an OLD GREEN HOLDER. I love the gold color of the (copper nickel) early Indians. I didn't intended to buy it, I wasn't even looking for it, but when I seen it, I new it was going to be mine. At a buck and a half I could not pass on it. As the economy gets better as it has for me, the place where I work just this week went back on 5 days

Modest Request of NGC

Either that or I need a bigger room! I don't know about the rest of you but I like to display my #1 ranked certificates from the NGC Registry. The problem is my den/office/coin room has limited wall space and it's all used up with certs, pictures, and momentoes of all kinds. I suggested that NGC do their certificates to represent multiple years just like the online registry. I believe it would give much more flexibility to collectors and each yaer we could discard the previous years cert an

The Desire to Attend Great Coin Shows

Wish I could be there... Greetings! My schoolwork is winding down now and I can see the end of the summer semester coming to a close. My grades are looking great, too which makes me all the more happy that I decided to continue to pursue my educational goals. Just 4 more semesters to go til my AS degrees. So, I have been battling a bit of boredom lately, I know, how in the hell do I have time to be bored? It has to do with not really seeing anything new in the past few years. I reall

Sell a Morgan to gain Morgans

Addition to my Morgan dollar collection Hey everyone, I ended up selling my 1887-P NGC MS65 Morgan dollar. It was a hard decision but, the 1887-P I replaced it with is very nice and has great toning. The 1887 was my only MS65 but I realized that my immediate goal is to collect the entire Morgan dollar collection in a minimum MS60. I can always upgrade the coin later in the future. Also, I picked up a nicely toned 1904-O PCGS MS63. I think I made the right choice....didn't I? I also pic

POST TIME

And they're off Hello all! Diversification has finally arrived. I am eventually eliminating my US Commemorative dollar set. I will never finish it. I put it up for sale on an auction site. I really don't need to sell it. I just want to use the funds to diversify, and also for grading fees. Canada is looking good. I have all but a few. NGC won't grade the complete $20 set, so I'll have to settle for the one's they do grade. I finally got a clad 2009 proof set I am keeping. Big deal.

1945 WAS A GREAT YEAR FOR BRITISH PENNIES

It's too bad it never caught on in New Zealand Hi everyone! I got the remnants of the NZ submission back today. The "Environmental Damage" is a vague, but accurate description. Carbon spots, patina, and toning........all products of a less than perfect environment. Well, I got spots. A little black and green in about a dozen places. Am I happy?........NO. Are they my fault?......NO. I should look so good when I reach 64 years of age. I asked about getting them "conserved, but waited

Addition

Today I added.... Today I added the North dakota State silver Quarter. If you would like to check it out it is on my state quarter set. I will add a picture tomorrow so I have something to do everyday. I started to do this because, I need to keep busy with something. Otherwise I will go over budget. I still have coins to add, but I will do so after I upload some of the picture I have on these sets. I got the California State quarter on Sunday on an Ebay auction. I can't wait to see it.
