KEEP IT SIMPLE

"A Father's Advice" Given today is Fathers' Day, random thoughts of Dad have been in my head all day. While watching the U.S. Open on TV, I heard one of the "Talking Heads" say that Tiger Woods stated that when he is adjusting his golf swing, mid-round, various announcer's speculations about his thought processes are wrong. What he does is think about his father's advice: "Keep it simple". His comment brought a smile to my face, as I recalled many occasions sitting with my father asking his

Something New For Me To Get Excited About!!

I am filling in the SAE shaped hole in my heart.... Greetings! Hope you all have been well. School continues to be going very well, but time consuming. I am still enjoying furthering my education very much. Yesterday I decided to go to usmint.gov and see about ordering my 2009 Prezzie Proof set, which the Mint offers for about 15 dollars. BUT something else caught my eye. The 2009 Proof set offers not only the Prezzies, but also the Proof Lincoln Pennies, the dime, half, and quarte

The Last Morgan!

Now all I have to do is upgrade. Yesterday I acquired an 1893-O from my local coin dealer. It was the only Morgan missing from my birth year sets of 1891, 1893, 1898, and 1921. Still on my wish list are a 91 and 91-O in 65, a 98 in 67, and a 21 in 67! After reading Jackson's journal entry, if any of you feel so inclined....I'll even pay shipping! Nice to hear from Revenant again. I don't know about you but when I don't hear from someone for a while I start to wonder if something has go

A Milestone Reached

and a few in sight... It's a rainy day here in Maryland..which means that my "summer hobbies" of sailing, fishing, and vegetable gardening are postponed for the day. So this is a perfect day to enjoy my collection. Often when I visit my coins it is simply to browse through the sets here at CS..however it sure is nice to pull out a few slab boxes and look at them in hand. I'm getting off track here..what I wanted to record in my journal is that I recently reached a milestone. My High Seas

PENNY ON A FENCEPOST

Third time is always a charm! Hi everyone! Well, I totally vented this morning. My PF 63, 1960 LD, Lincoln, 1C is gone!!! I admired that coin so much, I put it out of my misery on the third shot. At my age I guess shaking is bound to happen. Still not bad for 100 yards........and my Eagle. Oh.....it used to be the coin on the right in a former journal..... Congrats to those with the correct answer! Not to worry though. I bought 5 more PF 70s to submit. I guess grading

Yup got my grades

not too bad Friends & Society; Well this will be 2 journals today. I posted the other before dinner and after dinner I got the E-mail I was waiting on (grades are ready). I was not expecting much because these coins were coins I didn't want to grade. But with the economy the way it is and work very slow right now I can't bid on a nice coin so I pulled out the reserves and sent them in. It all looked to par for what I figured but one decided to make my week. The 1883s received a AU50,th

She's a beauty queen

Waiting on my 30+ day grades Hello everybody; I had a good week, no major problems and made a little money for bills on a small job. Got home from the job and checked my E-mail for my grades, not available yet. I will get them in the next week, nothing special just slot fillers for my sets. Went through my mail and Heritage Auctions was there. Just paying bills and no extra cash I still had to check it out. I saw a Morgan Silver Dollar that was so sweet ( and almost valued the total of my s

"Formative Years" cents with errors!?

Just went thru a roll of Lincoln cents and found some errors! Very minor but none the less.... Picked up 10 rolls of "Formative Years" Lincoln cents from my bank and went thru one roll of coins. I found a handful of very minor errors, or at least the normal stuff. An obverse die crack starting at six o'clock rim and going to the lapel. A die mark that looks like Lincoln has a NOSE spike!? And some others. Did you find any interesting coins? I just saw on ebay a DDR with a double thumb, will lo

WHAT A WAY TO START THE WEEK

I know times are bad, but c'mon!!! Hello everyone! Well, to start things off, my mail lady left a note in the box Saturday morning. It said she missed me at home. She did? I was up at 06:00 and waited for her until noon. Zip, zilch, nothing, nada! She never showed. I have to wait until Monday morning! It was only a few commemorative coins for my sets from 2001-2003. They have never been opened, and they should get good grades. I got them and opened the package.........2 out of the

Mandela Birthday Coin

How does a South African lady get her coins graded?? I have in my possession 200 South African Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday R5 coins. Of course, I have an untrained eye, but they look brand new. My problems is that I have no idea how to get them graded locally and had been referred to NGC. I'm still not sure how to get it done. Can anyone please help me?? Or if anyone is willing to buy these coins from me, I am willing to sell.

Contemplations Galore!

But not actions!! Greetings folks! I have been having a great weekend. Celebrated my birthday yesterday and on Friday. It is great to be alive!   I have been watching some auctions lately, and I have been thinking about buying outright all the rest of the SAE's needed to complete my set. I have also been meaning to buy the new Prezzie Proofs from the mint....but I just have not done any of this yet. I have myself in contemplation mode, and I really don't like it so much. I am happ

I'm still here

Keeping on. Mostly window shopping... I've been keeping busy with class and work. I also haven't had much to report on. I've been making a smaller number of bigger purchases lately. Individually, they aren't going to be all that fun to talk about or hear about. There's a chance that I'll have some bragging rights by December but we'll see. Thursday I was in the final part of a 250 mile round trip when my car got hit by road debris off a truck. Bye, bye ball joints. Hello repair bill and gett

Help-trouble submitting coins.

Help-trouble submitting coins. To start off saying I'm new to coin collecting would be a serious understatement. I just started collecting a couple months ago when I was on a business trip to the Maryland area and I caught a show on the television, since then it's been all about coins. So I've been trying to complete some fairly easy sets to start out with, like the Sac's and Presidents, and I say easy because right now they are in my price range. But this leads me to my questions on submitt

PCGS cross over to NGC

My set would jump in value. Society and friends; I started this quest [collect all Morgan Dollars] around a year ago. First I purchased close to 100 raw coins at which time I became a member of PCGS. After first grades submissions final I was redirected on purchases. 50% of the raw coins were problem coins and 80% of the off-names 3rd party graded [cracked out] were problem coins. So it was a smart decision to stick with PCGS & NGC graded coins right? No not really. PCGS does not li

WE NEED TO GET THE OLD COINS OUT OF CIRCULATION TO GET THE NEW ONES, EVERYONE MUST READ THIS ENTRY

LETS GET US THE NEW COINS, A VERY SIMPLE METHOD THAT I BELEIVE WOULD WORK REALLY WELL!! IF WE ALL WENT TO THE BANK ON A CERTAIN DAY SUCH AS JUNE 15(NEXT MONDAY) AND WE ALL BOUGHT AS MANY ROLLS OF COINAGE WE COULD AFFORD, SUCH AS BUYING ONE $25.00 BOX OF CENTS, 10 ROLLS OF DIMES, 12 ROLLS OF NICKELS, AND 10 ROLLS OF QUARTERS, THAT IS A TOTAL OF $199.00. THE KICKER IS, ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS SIT ON THESE ROLLS FOR A WEEK AND THEN ON JUNE 22 GO BACK TO OUR BANKS AND GET MORE ROLLS-THESE SHOULD BE

Great to see NGC ! I have ignore..

I can see 3 journals ! Sorry Gotta Have It. I'm afraid you'll have to go on ignore so I can see meaningful journals. You mean well, but it won't work. I certainly don't want to see the same post over and over and I doubt others would either ? this is not the place for that. Even if everyone here who reads journals did it, it wouldn't make a dent on the money supply. Even if everyone told 50 people. It would take a massive massive effort. The fed will release the coins when they are good an
