Finally My Half Cent Collection Is Complete!

Last piece of the puzzle found. It's taken several years to complete this set but what a journey. The Classic Head Half Cent Series is made up of only 14 coins but some are difficult to find period. When I started I really didn't care what my set would rank but I just wanted to fill all the holes. My set ranks #2 in points and is the only set that is 100% complete. The #1 set more than doubles my point total and has some beautiful coins I think. There are no pictures in his but many of his are

A Lincoln cent submission...

The agony of deciding what to send. I received my certificate on Monday and it's been burning a hole in the proverbial pocket!! I've run through about 200 coins thinking that any or all of them are NGC submission worthy. The truth be known I'd probably be disappointed in 180 of them, because the more I study each of them the more I see wrong with them... I had some nice Roosevelt dimes, both silver and clad, but decided against these for this submission, as my "luck" or in reality lack of sk

I'm Going Out of My Mind!!

Finally willing to admit that my wife may be right. So here I sit, fat and sassy (hopefully not too much of either), perusing coins available on my favorite web pages when viola(!), a gold-plated 2008 250 shilling coin from the Somali Republic catches my eye. The obverse has a Statue of PTAH with the skullcap enameled on the coin! The reverse denotes it as one of the Treasures of Tutankhamun. Amazing how nice a $15 coin can be and how expensive the end result will be. It is the start of a

PCGS "Old Green Holder" Info...

There are some real "gems" still out there... Greetings Collectors, I have been very busy of late with my business and of course my favorite hobby and have been meaning to post a "tidbit" of information on the very first series of holders from PCGS AKA "Old Green Holders". When I started collecting in the mid 1960's there were no such thing as grading companies. Everyone was pretty much at the mercy of whoever he or she was dealing with. I took a long break from coins at the completion of

PF70 Terr. Quarters Hi, Just got my PF70 Territory Quarters and a PF70 2003 SAC. WOW I am moving up in the ranks. Got #1 in Terr. Quarters. Still only in the 30's in SAC's but more to follow, soon. Should receive my PF70 ASE's (1990 & 1992) by weeks end, and I may have won a PF70 ASE 1986. Went a little more than I wanted to spend, but still obtained fairly inexpensively. This will conclude my ASE purchases for a while. Need to rebuild account before many more purchases. Well, that

Half Dollar Mania Revisited

The 1899-S came in but I had to send it back. It was a nice coin except at about 10 oclock on the Obverse, there was some sort of "damage". It's hard to describe and I already have it on its way back to the seller, So no images. The damage didn't appear to affect the reverse but it cost too much to risk a bodybag. I'm thinking "tooled". I have purchased a number of coins from this seller and they are fair and honest. So, I am still looking for a decent 1899-S Barber Half Dollar. ;o) Now I

American Arts Commemorative Series

I have the entire series If someone is looking for information about these gold coins I have a few suggestions to offer since I do own the entire series. NGC does not have a registry set that I have found for these - NOT COINs - GOLD Medals so if you want to view my collection you will have to go to my signature sets and look at the volumn titled Medals. This will give you the basic information only - but no specifics such as price etc. I haven't been able to find any source of such informat

I Can't Remember Who Had Asked About Them

...I hope I don't start a firestorm with this journal entry. I sure hope I don't set off anybody. This entry is for the person who had wrote a journal entry asking for help about the American Arts Medals. I had messaged him(her?) with the comment that they are listed in the red book. So whoever you are, this entry is for you, as Stack's, in their May 14th Golden Opportunities Sale, has a Marian Anderson medal for sale. Again, I'm not trying to sell anything, just thought the member would be in

BRAILLES.......50/50

My pair is finalized today.......good and bad! Hi all! I just got the results for my pair of Braille Commemoratives. MS69 and PF 69 Ultra Cameo. Not bad considering I thought the proof was a 70 and the uncirculated a 68. The census says there are more 70s than 69s, but i just added to the lower numbers. I put them into my set for now. I can wait until the 70s come down to $60, and grab the pair to upgrade. Everything else I sent was MS65. I hope my world coins do better. I alread

MAKES YOU WONDER!!!

Its all about Eye Appeal Sort of makes you wonder how NGC can tell the difference between a 69 and 70, but can't manage to see whether coins are properly aligned in the holder(i.e., the coin straight up and down in the holder). Sorry I am having a bad day, in that, everyone expects me to do my job correctly!! Sorry, NGC but this reflects poorly on your company.

A rarity in the making, or not ?

The Braille dollar is so far difficult in PF70UC Anyone who has purchased the Braille proof, check them carefully. PF70UC is a possible big money coin. One just went on ebay for $243 USD or around 6 times mint price I recommend buying a few from the mint, I will buy some more. We have a seemingly perfect coin with tiny flaws which could be on most coins.. if those without the flaws do turn out to be very rare, you want to find the good ones at mint price yourself ! good luck ! Childhood LC

Broke down and bought them Hi everyone, Decided to purchase the 2009 Childhood LC MS66. I picked both the P & D set for a fair price. Thought I should get a little more focused on my 1st true love my Lincoln Cents. Just spent $500 on 2 PF70 ASE's (90 & 92) Brings me up to 13 70 coins in my set. Slow climb, but steady as I can be and not have to file bankruptcy! Hope everyone is doing well and adding when they can Be well, Todd

Slowly Getting Back Into the Game

I just had to have this one. My last journal entry was full of doom and gloom on how the economy was forcing me to auction off a lot of my collection. Well, my situation has started to turn around and things are getting better at this time. I had received many messages from society member telling me that this day would arrive and it has. (Thanks again for all the positive messages; they really helped keep me get through these hard times). The other day, I was checking the status of the few c

SUBMISSION OVERDUE

Finally enough money for grading Collectors and Friends; It has been 3 months since I sent my last submissions in for grading.I had 40 coins to submit in March but no funds. This submission will be the final (probably not) raw coin submission for my Morgan Dollar sets. As much as my wife hates my collection I was surprised when I asked her to write a check and mail them in and she just asked if Monday would be O-K. My wife does not collect but she can sure spend a buttload on non-col

Glad that week's over...

1 test down... Okay... So I said I wouldn't buy anything this week and I didn't. Whoop! I bid on something, but it doesn't end until Saturday evening so that doesn't count. Yes, the fact that I didn't acquire anything for 2 weeks doesn't really seem like a bit accomplishment (big display of self-control right?). Well, when what you want is cheap enough to be an "impulse buy," and you're trying to resist that impulse, that gets rough. Those coins can call with greater force than the sirens ca

Re: Old Green Holder

A picture is worth a thousand words Old Green Holder or OGH refers to a previous generation PCGS holder. I am not sure of the dates these holders were used except that it seems the holder itself is a collector item and commands a premium in the market place. For the life of me it seems the holder is almost more important than what is in it, kind of backwards, isn't it. Rattler refers to the first generation PCGS holder. At any rate I am posting of a picture of a coin I bought for the coin that

This may be of help to everyone......sooner or later? Hello everyone! I was browsing through some grading questions, looking for a pricing list on World coins. I found something that may help identify slabs and their evolution. Just go to www.sampleslabs.com. If you don't find what you are looking for there, you may get more ideas for research. I hope this might help some. You must click on the grading company to the left to view all slabs. Good Luck and Happy collecting!
