new babies on the way

2006 Rev PF70 on way Hey, Just wanted to write so here it goes: #1 Rev PF70 SHOULD be here 4/3. I am so excited I can barely stand it. Figured out my new ranking with this coin and it should help me move up substantially. I have no other coin that has this high of a point value. I am in contact with another member that is very close in several sets. We will soon be closer than he realizes. Turn around and you will see me mh. #2 Have the rest of the coins (except 6) to finish my 2005 Proo

RIGHT FROM THE MINT

2009 may be a disaster for the Silver Eagle? Hi all.....again! I just looked again at the Mint website, and took a pair of paragraphs of their Eagle page. It is as follows: American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin "Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle

Ya gotta speak up!

He who hesitates..........remember that one? Hi all! Just a quick note tonight. I mentioned when I upgraded my 2008/07 Eagle error to a 70, I had the MS 69 for sale. Thanks to you members or your friends, I was fortunate enough to sell it promptly. Unfortunate for Tim, though. I am sorry. Thanks to being a society member, there is a prestige and it seems that now I have a small following. All I wanted to say is. If I have something offered from an upgrade to my sets, if you want it...

My Newest Addition

i Just added my 2009 ER MS 70 SAE WOW!! What a great coin I just added to my registry. My MS 70 ER SAE came today, and I could not be more thrilled than I am right now. With just over 8300 of these in population, compared to over 100,000 of the 69's....I predict this to be a very key part of the SAE collection. WOW!!

Well Well Well

The US MINT came thru! Received my 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin BOOK? today. With all the problems the mint was having, I expected something very nice. Surprise the book is about a third of the size I was looking forward to and about 50 pages short. What I was expecting was something like 100 Greatest U.S. Coins, a book that DLC Auctions sent me to make up for a coin I ordered and didn't receive, plus the money I had paid.

buying online

Watch out for scams Hey, I have been trying to find a 2005 Roosevelt Dime and a 2005 Kennedy Half (Both Clad and PF70). Checked out many places online and no luck. Finally after a couple hours I came upon a dealer named FastCoin. I checked their inventory and they had both coins. GREAT! Placed an order via internet and sent an email to confirm stock. Answer: good to go. Mailed money order Priority mail (they are in CA.) Rec'd email yesterday thanking me for order. (might have been comput

eBay Bucks

I received an invitation to get a 2% rebate on purchases, so I registered! This appears to be a beta test of a new program called eBay Bucks and so far, everything I have looked at shows a 2% rebate with the usual conditions, PayPal, paid quarterly, use it on eBay etc. Now, I wonder if I can combine my tiny BigCrumbs rebate along with eBay bucks I can save on every buy! I've heard "It's not what you spend but what you save!"

NGC TURN AROUND TIMES

In by 9 out by 5? Hello all! I just got the shipping notice from NGC on my last submission. Turn around times are phenomenal. My 1959 proof set did well. A 1986 Statue of Liberty half, made PF 70 UC. I paid 6 bucks for it raw! Both Abes took a 70. I will have them before a reputable dealer gets mine back to me since 2-12. So much for presales. I also got straight PF 69s on the Prezzies. Not too shabby. I also did a better scan of my 1911 D Lincoln cent. I have an extra 2008/07

The Jorney

"Value" While watching the news report this morning on John Calipari coming to Kentucky as head Basketball coach, He made a statement that I really like, He said "You MUST value the journey as much as you value the prize at the end" This is like my coin collecting , I have enjoyed putting a few sets together, and hope one day I can value completing these sets as much as starting them. Thanks for taking time to read my journal , and hope everyone enjoys Your journey as well. And glad t

2009 TERRITORIAL QUARTER SET

ALL 12 COINS AND THE PICS TO PROVE IT! Hello everyone! It took some string pulling, but if you want to see them, I have all 12 of the Territorial quarters(with pics). I missed being #1 because I had to wait until I had photo proof. I could have thrown anything in there and obscured it, but I think not! The 1st, 12 coin Territorial set. to be shown in the NGC Registry.......Enjoy all!

Finished my Ikes today

Can anybody remember actually carrying those things in your pocket? I can. Glad the pants to my Leisure Suit didn't fall down. I got the last coin I needed to complete my Proof 69 Ike set today. I won a 1977-S PR69DCAM for $10.10 on eBay, which I thought was a great deal for a PCGS-graded coin. One thing that surprised me when I was scouring for coins to complete this set, is how few NGC-graded Ikes were out there for sale. The number of PCGS-graded Ikes available just swamps them. Not that it

My "Mental Health Day"

...and anxiety related to "coin waiting" Greetings folks!! After a brutal 4 or 5 months where my mood has been swinging back and forth, and me not seeing any sort of end in sight of the "mood situation" I decided last night to take a "mental health day" off from work. This did wonders for me. I did not realize how much I needed a day off. This time also gave me a window to contemplate the arrival of my newest coin. And the anxiety of waiting for it..... I wish there were words to de

The VDB Lincoln cent - 1918 ???

I am curious about what I have read .... Hi to all, This past Christmas, my son gave me a really good book. I have read it front to back and referenced it several times. The name of the book is "HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES MINT AND ITS COINAGE" by David W. Lange. I believe he bought it at Borders. I have collected Lincoln cents from the time I was six years old. A 1909 is of course the one penney that you always turn over and look to see if it has the VDB initials and if so,

First Quarter 2009

Thoughts on the first quarter of 2009 As the year 2009 closes its first quarter, we find the markets trending down at a slower descent, gold ascending once again to $1000 an ounce, and the rare coin market hot as ever. Deals abound and if you snooze, you lose. I just found that out by waiting overnight to make up my mind. By 5:00 am, someone had snagged my contemplated purchase, sending that sinking feeling to the pit of my stomach. On a brighter note, the first quarter has been a time of p

A Strange Find

got what I deserved I have a funny story to relate of something that happened to me recently. I am a full fledged coin nut..I always check my change and recently I checked some change that wasn't even mine. I was at a convenience store, and you know those little plastic trays or cups at the check out counter? You may have seen one with a little sign..." Take a Penny or Leave a Penny". I assume they are there in case you purchase something whose total comes to $1.01 or $1.02....or conversely

Remorse... or is it?

Some thoughts on a recent purchase You may recall my recent purchase of a Connecticut colonial copper. I have some thoughts I'd like to share, that have been spurred on by the latest edition of EAC's Penny-Wise. There was an article in there entitled "I can't believe I actually bought that!" - a fitting title for a couple of purchases I've made in the past few years. However, it got me thinking about my latest copper purchase. Do I regret purchasing the coin? No. Definitely no. I can n

About NCS -- for people who've had "no grade" coins lately...

...or for those who have recently talked about so-called "body-bagged" coins. Without getting into all the details, I know I've traded emails with some people about the services offered by NCS, part of the the Certified Collectibles Group (CCG) and therefore NGC's sister company. The idea where I suggest that sometimes, particularly when it comes to coins which may be particularly valuable specimens (gold) or unique varieties, or have low populations or low mintages, it may be worthwhile t

Naftzger Sale Summary

An auction experience to remember. Please forgive me for some repeated material... At the 2008 Summer ANA show in Baltimore, I was chatting with Bob Grellman at Chris McCawley's table. Bob suggested that I attend the February 1, 2009 (yes, Super Bowl Sunday) Goldberg auction of Ted Naftzger's middle date large cents. Some of the Naftzger early and middle dates were available for viewing at the Goldbergs' table, and I saw how much nicer they are than most other middle dates I've seen. As t

Today's another milestone! 400

An impossible dream? Hi everyone! I have been so busy with looking for a new place to live, I have neglected my latest purchases a bit. My original goal was to make it to 500th ranking in the NGC Registry. My other was to acquire the MS 69, 2008/07 Silver Eagle. My third(and actual prority)was to add the 1995 W Silver proof to complete my original set(PF 69). Thankfully I have accomplished my goal for the year! As always, the competition gets tougher the higher you get. I recently

I like Ike!

Sure, he ain't Brad Pitt, but I wouldn't call them ugly... I have started to focus on assembling an Ike Proof collection. While Ikes graded 70 are few and far between (not to mention expensive), a respectable full set of PF69s can be had at a reasonable cost. Another plus is that ungraded proofs can also be had for a reasonable cost, so I will likely try my luck on submitting some respectable candidates for grading, and who knows, maybe get a 70. If not, chances are good that the acquisition a
