Dear Bayviewint Psssssss, It's for bullion and scrap...

Not everyone has your size of holdings or the money for the size safes you so proudly own. Boy it takes all kinds to make a world. I had to read my post again to see if I had missed something. I don't particually like being redundant but I will briefly repeat myself. The pipes are for junk, common, culled, cleaned, unsightly, nicked, no date . Bullion and junk silver is not something I need to dig up and look at. But I did go on to say that I would not hesitate to put any coin I own or any coi

Spending Good Quality Time With My Coins

This is an important thing... Greetings!!! I love to get lost in the details of the coins I have acquired. I have long held that each coins is uniquely a part of the persons life who acquired it. I have written here before that the story and the feelings a person has when that person acquires the coin will always be special only to the owner of the coin. I still adhere to this. And since each coin is unique to me, and the way they were acquired is special in their own way, I do l

An Inexpensive Alternative for Storage of Coins, Bullion & Other...

There are some "do's and Don't's but the price can't be beat! Greetings Collectors, Many thanks to "Bully" for his very informative peice on safes and Bank boxes, Insurance and the like. I had read it when it was previously posted but was glad he shared this info with all of us again. In my prior post touching on the aspect of putting your bullion somewhere where only you had access and the mention of burying it in the woods/forest/yard ect. was actually a serious suggestion. Where and how to store your coins - RE-POST, but not untimely

In deference to my esteemed colleague and collector, W.K.F., I enjoy the journal entries very much. For the suggestion about NOT letting someone else keep your collection, on this topic, I have some thoughts. This is actually mostly a re-post of something I produced last year, but the details are still accurate, and may be helpful to many members. Before I begin, let me say that I am NOT a fan of the PVC pipe and burying coins somewhere. I suspect that a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, but in

Buy Gold and Silver Now: Counterpoint

I agree and disagree, so it's not REALLY so much of a counterpoint, but a train of thought. Before I start, let me get out of the way up front that I enjoy the entries from WKF and have enjoyed previous exchanges with this author. Therefore, I must emphasize that my purpose is not to challenge his writings, but to challenge EACH OF US to think before we act, and to make informed decisions. First: I would say, the REAL time to have been screaming "BUY GOLD AND SILVER NOW" was a few months a

Hello '' New Coins''

I'm still excited!! Two days ago I stopped to check my PO box to see if the coins every body sent me arrived. To my surprise they were there. I ran to my dad's truck and opened the package I was amazed at all the beautiful coins in there. it was the best gift i have ever received. When I get older I will start to send coins for grading because there were beautiful coins in there worth grading .I will be concentrated on the sets I received the most. I will also start buying more PF and MS 70's.

Keep Coins and Bullion in your Possesion!

You don't trust others with your coins, ditto with your bullion. I do not mean to be a "Journal Hog" but each couterpoint brings another item to mind. In my opinion I would never trust my coins, gold and silver, diamonds ect. to anyone. I don't even like the idea of them being in a bank vault. I had a nightmare a while back that my bank had "shut down" and when I went there the doors were not only locked but chained. I could see inside the bank and it looked as if the place had been "ransacked"

Re-imaging the signature set.... Again...

and additional rambling... Well, just the other day I finished taking new pictures of all the coins in my signature set (save one, long story), and I uploaded the cropped images (I think) yesterday. It gets a little hard to keep track of days when I'm not going to class. I was thrilled to see that I managed to capture most of the details in the images this time. It can be so hard with these coins because almost every one of them combines brilliant and matte/burnished surfaces. I had to do this

Precious metals and gemstones.

Bullion isn't always salty! Hi everyone! I guess it's my turn for an opinion. Gold is not always gold. The IRS says it has to be pure for an IRA. Silver too! No sterling or 90% coin silver. It has to be .999 fine. If you have 3 or 4 pounds of 18k gold lying around, you ain't broke. You cannot write it off though. In order to write off precious metals (bullion) as an IRA you must to give it to someone to hold. You are not allowed immediate or easy access to it. I guess I'll have to fin

Photo Tip

My images have improved a lot since i began doing this easy technique! It is quite simple. Diffuse the light from your flash with a piece of white paper over the flash. I have also been zooming in a bit (while macro is on) so I can move further from the coin. Here is one of my recent images using the above technique.

RE: Buy Gold and Silver, counterpoint

Pay little attention to where metals were... Greetings once again, I always like to hear differant points of view and as Bully made mention, we have conversed on several occations in the past. But having said that, I stand by my thoughts in my previous post to buy both now. All who follow investing whether they be in coins, stocks, realestate ect. know or should know that there is always a buyer and there is always a seller. You buy stocks because you think they will go up. The per

Patiently Awaiting the SAE's

Now, if only it were just the BULLION I wanted.... Greetings!! Exciting times to be a coin collector!! AND trying times as well.....   I am still patiently awaiting the release of the SAE's from the Mint, namely the W's and the Proof variety. The mint did finally post a note stating the Mint had to fulfill the demand for the bullion investment coins first, and THEN they'd mint the stuff we little ol' collectors love to hoard. And, I predict the mintage this year for the W's

"BUY Gold and Silver NOW!!!"

Times like these may never come again... Greetings Collectors, Or should the greeting be to "Collectors and Investors". Some of you know me fairly well and some only know me only from what I write here at the CS journals. I realize that we have a "coin collecting" forum here and I do not want to try and pass myself off as some investing guru. But I have grown to know alot of you pretty good and whether I know you well or not at all, I do feel a "kindred"(sp) toward you all and really enj

USPS - In response to someone else

Regarding Registered Mail getting lost While I personally haven't had Registered Mail get lost, I have heard stories from my local Postmaster where at least three times in the last month or two where Registered Mail has been lost. Of course the customers who shipped the items look to the local Postmaster for DAILY updates, but of course that discounts that the items made it out of that office the same day they were shipped. Supposedly, of course, the US Post Office tells us that the items ar

Musings...

...On the Lincoln Commemorative and Bruce Wilmore's focus Last week I received my proof Lincoln Commem and then I received an email saying my Uncirculated Lincoln has been shipped. If the Uncirculated is anything like the Proof, wow, I can't wait to see it. I believe all of you who have already received the Lincoln commems know what I'm talking about. I feel (and yes, this is my personal opinion) that the Lincoln commems are a close second to the most beautiful modern commem issued. As all of

US Postal Service....

Indeed....quite the service indeed! Anyone else have registered packages lost in the mail over the last few months? I have been expecting one from NGC since it departed March 9th from Sarasota to Wisconsin. There is no info on the USPS site since it left there and its been 9 days. It has never taken over a week before usually its 3-4 days. It would be a shame because I may never get to replace those coins with any other ones like it.

More incoming

Spent more that I don't have! Hi, Put myself behind the 8-ball again. Purchased another set of PF70 Prezzies! Got a real good deal so had to say YES! Also got a great deal on 2009 ASE MS70 and could not refuse. The next thing will be the Silver Terr. Quarters at the end of this month. Already have my name in for the first sets my connection gets. Don't know cost yet but I will get them anyway. I have been spending a little more time looking at the #1 sets and what I need to be competit

So much for presale coins!

3 strikes.....you're out! Hello all! Am I upset with affluent coin dealers? Yup, at least one has ired me to a boil. When you have enough money to buy 200 silver Commemoratives at a time(Abe Lincoln in this case), you should be able to fulfill a presale promise. Right? I guess I have to loan them my hard earned funds for 30 days or more. No interest, no coins, and no communication? After 35 days I get an email that the coins arrived from the Mint. Woohoo. I am just a little guy sitt

60 Kookaburras I sent have been received !! 10 coins coming out of Quality Control maybe today, soon for sure! I did choose imaging so I'll just check my mail for those. I recently made a signature set while waiting for Amy to make a competitive set. Well silly me, I found the set for 1937 Gold GB proofs and filled that in, put me past 75,000 pts ! was very happy. But no more signature set.. So now I have a new one.. REAL shame NGC forgot to image these babies for me last time. The 2005 co

Decisions, Decisions

Where to try to focus my efforts? That, my friends, is a tough question... If you've, by chance, found yourself suffering from pure boredom and paid a visit to my home page, you'll see that my collection best suits the analogy "Jack of All Trades. Master of None." At least if your trade is Modern Silver or Clad Proofs. My collection is all over the place, seemingly without focus, and that is indeed a sad truth. I have recently, however, managed to complete a Proof Statehood Quarters collect
