Wahington Presidential Dollars

I was cleaning out my closet and came across a box from the Mint. It is unopened and postmarked 3/11/2007. 5 rolls of "P" and 5 rolls of "D". Does that date and being unopened add any value if I try to sell the whole box? I paid $359.90, think I can get my money back out of them? Thanks!

mailman1959 in Recouping Funds

Please keep my Father in your prayers,

Not much time left, This past Monday my father suffered a stroke. His condition is gradually worsening so he has been moved to Hospice Care. He is just receiving pain medication for comfort and Tylenol for fever. Coin collecting has lost any importance in my life right now. My father is 78 and lived a wonderful life, my mother is 75 and I will be spending a lot more of my time and resources on her. Someday I may return to this great hobby of ours as my father would not want me to stop because

Highest scoring in mint sets 1965-1998

Just saw this yesterday I was going to look at my mint sets and saw the page that lists all the years from 1965-1998, then I noticed the little box at the top and saw where it listed highest scoring. I clicked on it and to my surprise my 1776-1976 Clad Mint Set is the highest scoring mint set for those years. It listed the 50 highest scores and I actually have 3 of the top 10. When I finally get all my Eisenhower upgrades I might try and see if I can get the top 5 sets. Something to do and ano

I think I broke my arm,

patting myself on my back. I did it, I did it!! My 2 year goal of having an all NGC set of Eisenhower Dollars at the top of the Registry has been reached. They aren't the most colorful, don't have that stunning eye appeal of some of the other sets, but they are what I could afford to pursue. Thanks for the encouragement I received from some members on here, it helped in making the decision to purchase some of the coins. I tried to get one of the highest graded examples for each coin when they

It is upgrade your Eisenhowers day

I upgraded two of mine I was going to wait until the last minute of the Registry deadline to add them, but that seemed childish and sneaky. In all reality mine may have the #1 beside it but it does not come close to Troy Weavers. I have looked at his pictures and wished I had some coins like his. He is building his set for his children and it is something to be proud of. Mine started out as a simple set that was easy to assemble, then I got the idea of donating it to the Eisenhower Museum. 304 pts. That was the date and point value that started my NGC only Eisenhower Dollar Set. I can proudly say that as of June 10th 2013 my set is complete (not finished). I have moved up to the 3rd spot (43464 PTS.) in the Registry and #1 in the NGC only category. While it was quite an undertaking it was very rewarding in finding some good coins with some crazy deals and purchases. I don't have any of the one of kind as far as grades go, but I did manage to pick up a few of the rarer dates for

FINISHED

My first mint set, 1776-1976 Mint Set is 100% complete. The higher grade Kennedys don't come up for auction very often so I bought a MS65 for $15.00 It's not gonna break me and I am trying to get some of them completed. Trying to get a 10 year run of #1 sets, 1971-1981. Have a great day, MAILMAN To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

1973-D I was just able to purchase one of the two 1973-D MS67 Eisenhower Dollars. I had pretty much figured my set would never have the MS67 in it. Sorry, not much of a journal. Had to share my excitement. Have a great day!! MAILMAN To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Sorry

for loss of Ike points. Not sure if it was because of me, but I made a request to check some point values. The 1977 & 1978 MS66 were way out of line compared to the value and points for MS67 coins. Sorry to put a damper on everyone's point gains. Have a great day! MAILMAN To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

It's Official Now

#1 NGC Collection of Eisenhower Dollars As of today I have the #1 Set of NGC Eisenhower Dollars, the bad news is I only have 10 of the 23 coins in their highest grade. I will continue my journey thru the remaining 13 coins. Someday I will have them all, and make a trip to Kansas to give them to his museum. Still hopeing I can get NGC to reholder the ones in the old slabs (at no cost) and get them to make a presentation case for their display. I think it will be enough free advertising for them

Who'd have thunk it?

Cheaper on Coin Vault 2012 2 Coin Eagle Set in 70 grades on Coin Vault are $289.00, while on ebay the sets are over $200.00 with 4 or 5 days left on the sale. May be the first time I have ever seen that........MAILMAN To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Sometime next week,

The #1 NGC ONLY Eisenhower Dollar Set. Today I purchased the 1974D in MS67, it is worth 3031 pts., that will move me to the #4 set overall and #1 in NGC only coins. I started the set in April of last year. My original goal was to collect the 2nd highest grade of every coin. Like most collectors that wasn't good enough once I completed the set. I looked at The Eisenhower Museum online and thought about trying to get the #1 overall set and donate it to them. 2015 will mark his 100th birthday, th

The end of coins,

It's closer than you think.... Has anyone read the article in this weeks Coin World about smart phone transactions? It appears that in about 5 yrs. some of the people are figuring on most transactions to take place thru some type of hand held device. Does the collecting of coins slowly begin to fade away when the next generation grows up without using them? Does the Age of Technology drive prices up due to lack of supply or drive prices down due to lack of interest? Any guesses as to how this

RE Early Release

Misleading Qualification Early Release Labels do not adhere to guidelines as to defining coins that were released early. The sole determining factor in evaluating a coins' release date is the date on the shipping order included in every package sent out by the Fullfillment Center. NGC does NOT use the date the package was sent to you as the determining factor in issuing labels. An example that I have used in the past regarding this subject was my shipment of two(2) four coin sets of 2007 Proof

TAKE THEM ALL OUT...

All PCGS coins should only be in custom sets. If you want to win the NGC REGISTRY AWARDS, you should have NGC coins. Would you play for the JETS and wear a GIANTS hat to the park? It should be the same here. You don't have to collect NGC coins to be a member, you don't have to collect any coins to be a member. You can still talk coins, post coins, educate yourself about coins. I understand the frustration some members felt when they heard the anouncement, but it's no different than the frustra

#1 1776-1976 Clad Mint Set

Got it by chance. I didn't know about the mint set standings, just happened to notice them on the "sets" listing page. So I listed my IKES and ended up with the number 1 set. I also purchased the '76-D Quarter in MS67 which I will be adding as soon as it arrives. Wish I would've noticed this last year.MAILMAN

Bought 2 coins

2 more Eisenhower Dollars I was lucky to get 3 Eisenhowers over the weekend, a top pop MS66 for the 1976 TYPE 1 and a top pop MS69 for the 1972S. I also bought another 1976 D TYPE 2 in MS67 just because I got a (steal) I mean deal on it. Hopefully I can use it as trade bait for one of the coins I need in my set. I am really glad that not many people show an interest in these coins, as the prices to buy are way lower than the NGC values. I am hopeing to have the #2 set by the end of this year w

NGC, Your labels are ruining the hobby!

Why so many? Why do you need to keep finding different words to associate with the release time of a coin? What does "First Release" add to a coin? Are you not in the business of assigning a grade to a coin, irrelevent to the day it was released? Maybe you can start adding "First One Graded", "Second One Grade", and so forth till you hit 1,000,000. Why can't a coin just be a coin and not a label? I am a "Coin Collector", if I wanted to collect labels I would buy "soup cans". If I renew my memb

Out of funds till next year...

Was fun this year... I started out in April of this year hoping to get a complete set of Eisenhower Dollars for the Registry. Although I fell one coin short of my goal, I never imagined I would end up with the number 5 set. Other than the 1972 TYPE 2, I have decided to try and assemble a set of the highest grade for the rest of the series. I don't know if I will ever make it to #1, but that should put me at the highest set for NGC coins only. I don't have anything against PCGS, I guess it's ki

Eisenhower Update

2 more MS67 No pictures yet, someday I will get a new camera and figure out how to take them. Purchased the 1976 TYPE 2 and got an unbelievable price on the 1978 D. There are only 3 of the '76 and only 4 of the 78 D. Slowly trying to work my way to the top. Good luck in your collecting adventures!! Just figured out the math, moves me into 5TH place!!

Collecting Coins

It's not what you do, it's who you are. Does your reason for collecting ever really change from when you started? I was 7 yrs. old, what did I really know about coins? What compelled me to want every wheat penny I could my hands on? Why did I tell my grandma and my aunts to buy me coins for Chtistmes presents? I don't know the answers to these questions and probaly never will. I remember when I was younger I wanted to be a banker so I could go thru every roll of coins that came into the bank,

Last day of collecting

Today might be that day I am so fed up with the policies of the Mint and NGC that today might be my last day of collecting U.S. COINS. I have been at quick check-out at the mint for over an hour. I didn't get greedy, I only placed an order for two sets. Keep one, sell the other to help pay for grading costs. Between the Mint not producing enough coins to meet collector demand, not placing a limit of one per address, and NGC having already announced they are doing an early release just to force
