It's good to see the playing field is finally evening out.
I just returned from the Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Coin show today. It's on for two days this weekend. I saw something that I was happy to see and proud to comment on. You see, for years, at the coin shows in both Edmonton and Calgery, I would only see the odd NGC graded coin. Word from the dealers was that NGC graded two points higher than PCGS and our top grading co. ICCS. That always bothered me. Every year I would express my findin
The finest 1834 N-2 cent?
Next up - 1834. The 1834 cent I was looking to upgrade was purchased raw from an ANR auction a few years ago. It's an N-2 that I got into an NGC slab as MS64BN, pretty much as expected. It's a nice coin, with interesting color on the reverse, but subdued obverse luster and a few minor marks.
Prior to the Goldberg's auction of the Naftzger middle dates, I had picked out four candidate 1834s I thought I'd have a shot at getting. I figured the MS67BN N-4 would be out
octomom better look out......
I haven't written a journal entry in about 6 weeks so this is overdue--and no, octomom has nothing to fear from me. In fact, my "triplets" consist of my recently added 1942-P Mercury dime that is a well matched coin for my 1942-D and 1942-S. For those who may have read my journal entry from a few months ago titled "twins"..I have been looking for a 1942 to match these other 2 coins with their handsome rim toning.(you really need to take a closer look at this coin
Proof & MS W. Eagles
...SUSPENDED
The good news is that it looks like the "W" MS eagles will happen (if we stop buying the regulars)
with the below statement from the mint, I have to belive this could be a great year to pick up some proof eagles (if the ever come out)
Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available sil
Only lack 1 Lincoln to complete my raw MS collection
Yes, I need the big one. I have a cleaned VF40 that I need to sell/trade to upgrade this slot in the Dansco. Looking for a raw MS60 - MS63, any color, problem-free coin. Going to the Long Beach show in May for the first time, maybe I'll find one there. Any leads or ideas appreciated.
My 2009 UHR Double Eagle, through all of this uncertainty, made it! Unbelievable!
The Double Eagle is in the hands of NGC now. That's a comforting thought. This whole UHR experience has been a roller coaster - constant ups and downs. I guess during the ups and downs it can seem like the world is against you. But in the end, these are the times that you remember and that bring you the most joy. I'll never forget my anticipation of the 2009 UHR.
The first time I saw the UHR coin in perso
With 20 Bank bags full of silver coins I knew we had some work ahead of us.
I recently got a phone call from a friend that went like this:
?Hey John, you know something about coins right??
?Yea, sure do.? I replied.
?Well you are going to go wild! I just found a ton.?
He had literally just found a ton of coins. I did not know what to expect. My buddy then described to me how he had moved a dresser in an apartment his family owned and he found a safe full of silver coins. The apartment
I feel this will be a great coin year for me....
Greetings!
Well, it has been awhile since I have made any journal entries as I have been occupied with getting funding for my further education started and then stressing over "when the hell is registration for summer semester?".
You know, all the things we tend to worry about, yet cannot change. All the while neglecting the very important stuff like my coin collection!
I am really feeling great about the future of my coin collectio
Thanks to a fellow registry member my clients set is on its way!
Just wanted to thank a fellow registry member for his amazing set of charlotte gold dollars, RT managed to build an amazing set of these tiny coins and thanks to his keen eye they are among the finest i have ever had the chance to handle, so although the collection is now in anonymous hands it will still be represented under SMC Numismatics for all to see, images will be uploaded shortly so you can actually see it . Slowly the Ch
Raw 1899-O Barber Quarter
Picked up the below 1899-O Barber 25c that is said to be uncirculated and high grade MS63 or 64. I can't wait to see it in "person" and it comes with a 7 day return option. The ad stated that the coin had been in a saftey deposit box for more than 40 years. I hope that it is all original as the picture shows (copied from the ad and rather poor, I will update it here and in my 1899 Mint Set when I have it, whether I keep it or not). 2,644,000 minted.
I will be heart

9 AUSTRALIA 2008 S$1 MS KOALA

Why 10 9 8 ? I culled a few that will do !
As I have put on the form.. why doesn't NGC offer an image service for this situation - 3 images ! one of each date. $9 cost. I would take that option if available !!
On pins and needles awaiting grades on 26-S Lincoln, Pan-Pac half and $1, and 2 Indian quarter eagles
The 26-S will hopefully grade MS63RB, perhaps higher; exceptional strikes for this coin. The $1 Pan-Pac will hopefully go MS, how high is a ?
Wish me luck.
Delay Explained, S-243 obv photo
My usual weekly journal will be short this week as well as a couple days late. Shoveling the drive Monday morning, I slipped on a patch of ice and found out Tuesday that I actually chipped a bone in my shoulder - visiting the orthopedist tomorrow and expecting four weeks recovery at least. Typing with one hand is interesting and tedious.
Here is the obverse of the S-243 I wrote about last week - fyi, not my own photography.
Tried the chat boards but I have a free email account. Don't know what that's all about.
I know that part of this post is probably not 100% kosher but I tried to register on the chat boards and gave up. I even tried contacting individual members who may be interested, but was not able to contact all of them. So at the risk of being reprimanded by my peers or even some 'higher authority', here goes. I am selling my collection "Paint Your Wagon" to concentrate on my mint sets and will give N
I thought I would, and then I didn't.....then I did
Hello everyone!
My 1957 proofs are in the mail. Nothing great, but they will look nice with my other set. NGC imaging on these too!
I got a 70 in my new Prezzies, but would have been happier with a 69 set.
My 2008 set award certificates came. Thank you NGC!!!
Everone that sent their coins in ahead of me, are now behind? How did they do that?
It's a shame some dealers aren't as above board as they could be.
I could have sent my own
Still trying to become #99 or less
Will I moved up 1 person from last month.I am #150.It is a constant up and down highway.I will make myself a promise right now.I must become #140 by the end of this month.March 31 is my deadline.I need a minimum of 5080 points to acheve this goal. Not including everyone else moving up as well.If I dont acheve this goal,I will send the person right infront of me a roosevelt dime NGC 1948-P MS 67 FT for FREE!!!!!!!!!!Ok now back to the coins I bought last month
Ans the coin of the month for March is...
an 1857Seated Dime. This piece is graded MS-64 by PCGS. The obverse is toned in a deep rose-orange with blue around the rims, while the reverse is a lighter gold and russet. Both sides have a nice cartwheel luster. Nicely struck except for weak dentils from 9-12 on both sides.
? the 1994 Silver Chinese Unicorn
I?m hoping this coin will be arriving at my permanent address in the next couple of days. I?ll get to see it in person in about 11 days when I go home for Spring Break. (That?s assuming I don?t shoot myself before then with the way my workload looks for the next week?)
The Chinese Unicorns had a short 4 year run from 1994 to 1997. The mintages on these issues are on the low side. Based on what I?ve read, the 1994 mint state coin had a mintage limit of only 5
