About 16 of them will do it. The Prezzies are having a hard time making PF 70. Thank goodness I only need 4 .....but I also need a few PF 69 sets......whew! I did send a 1957 proof set in with my next to last Prezzie set. I went whole hog on this one too guys! Photo imaging and all. M

Another reason to check your change

Another reason to check your change Today at work while counting tills something in the penny tray caught my eye, and to my amazement it was an 1894 Indian Head Penny in Fine to Very Fine condition. This coin was better than the one in my coin album so it will now have a nice home. Since most banks don't take in change from customers people are using those change machines and people who don't know what they have are throwing all kinds of coins into circulation as people generally don't handle

Raising Dust over Mexican Silver

Getting Mexican Libertads for my signature set. When I made the decision to start working towards my signature set, there was at least 1 coin that I knew was bound to be a miserable pain to acquire. That coin was, naturally, the early design of the Mexican Libertad series. It was redesigned around 1996. For a nice example of the new design all you have to do is buy some of the most recent year at close to melt. The old design is a slightly bigger problem. A really nice, good looking example of

IT LASTED FOR A DAY

It was fun for awhile. Hi everyone! My goal of being ranked 500 lasted almost a full 24 hours. I suppose being somewhat responsible for a few new members(some freebies, some not)led to my demise. I woke up this morning at 505.....hmmmmmm? My NC PF 70 was accepted this afternoon, but it only got me up to 502. A new member bought a set of my Sacs. He now owns the next 10 coin Sac set to be registered. There goes my world domination. Competition is good! Isn't it? I will lose the

My last submission was a tad disappointing

Now I have the distinction of owning the single lowest grade in the census I submitted a 2009 Clad US Territories Proof Set a week or so ago, and the grades came in this morning. Judging from the registry sets put together by other members, and by looking at the Census numbers, PF70UCs are fairly easy to come by for these sets. Therefore, I thought it reasonable to expect the same. However, lo and behold, one of the coins in my set is PF68UC, which if you collect Proof Statehood Quarters, th

Paid for another coin

Bruce Lorich has held a coin for about 6 months for me 1937 1/2 Sov PF66 CAMEO The price seemed a bit high at first but they have actually gone up in sales so its about right now. Cannot wait to get it. Also a nice original 1937 Proof set case, should be in good condition as asked Finally paid him for it, this is going to be great. All I need now is.. the 1 Sov, and a box for them. The last part is very easy.. the 1 Sov will be difficult but it will come. And then it will be home.. I'll

Van Buren's Liberty low mintage ?

How long until the mint melts the 2008-W spouses ? I got the mint figures from some site recently. Coinnews.net possibly. Anyway the first in the series had mintages of 20,000 (rumour has it some early spouses were melted during the metals boom) Van Buren's Liberty PF is sitting at 4834 pieces minted ! 5935 for Jackson's Liberty PF Mine arrived from a fellow CS member today, thanks again Sam ! (Sort of) A disappointing Prezzie Day

I got nothing done that I wanted with the coins.... Greetings!! After much anticipation and some vicarious planning, I fell short of my goals of getting my coins pics re-done yesterday. I don't know what happened. I just lacked motivation somehow, might have been that there are ALREADY pics for most of my coins, or just a plain case of the "ahhhhh screw its" but that's OK, it was still good to have the day off. Speaking of Prezzies....I took a look at the new Lincoln silver comemm,

TODAY IS THE DAY.......FINALLY!

This bubble is subject to bursting at any moment! Hello all! I eventually found the Territories I misplaced. I added them to the slots, and BAM!!! The elusive 500 has been reached. Is this the pinnacle? The acme of my collecting? No, just a plateau. I have more to do. I have, however, reached the goal I set when I joined the Registry. The"fortunate" 500! Thanks to friends and members! Actually, I never expected this so quickly. The economy has me worried about continuing at

New Statehood Quarters?

Just heard something on the local news. I live in Delaware, and I heard on the news this morning as I was getting ready for work that a design competition was just announced for a new Delaware quarter. I hadn't heard anything about a new series of quarters. Has anybody else?

The maddness of selling coins!

I can sell coins at a lower price than you can. I have been selling and buying U.S. NGC Graded Silver Eagles on E-Bay for some time. I am always surprise at with final bids on some coins. Let?s take look at the 2009 Silver Eagle Mint State coins. At the time of this posting silver spot is at 13.50 an oz. Prices for a green monster box is $8825.00, and don?t forget about the shipping charge of $55.00 making the total purchase of around $8880.00. Now the cost per coins is at $17.76. If you send

Another plea to NGC?

I'd like the 10th slot please! Hello all.....again! Todd has a point. I asked for some recognition with my set/s also. Let's see. There is an ASE in 2008 graded as a MS70. Another 2008 W for the MS 70 slot. Alas, let us not forget the"ERROR". The 2008 with the 2007 reverse in MS 70. Ya gotta have it! No set is complete without it. It is a prominent error. But it is just that.....an error. NGC labeled the 2000 Sacagawea with the standard brown/gold label, and the green "First Year Of

KNOCKING ON THE 500 DOOR ?

I almost made it today.......but Hello all! Well, I got a shock today.....again. I just acquired the NH "W" silver quarter I need for my "weird" set. I got the coin listed. I uploaded the photo and description. I hit the "SAVE" button and sat back and waited for the usual process. My description and photo made it! Success right?.............Not!!! NGC says the coin is a PF 69. Now I am confused. My last post had a problem with NH too! Am I jinxed? I am almost afraid of g

A plea to NGC!!!

The Lincoln Cent Part III - The Wide AM gets no respect!!! Well I can't seem to stray to far from talking about Lincoln Cents. I was outbid this weekend on an MS 67 RD 1934. It seems that there are fewer of these 67's to go around these days or the seller wants way above Numismedia... The subject at hand is the Wide AM cents from 1998, 1999 and 2000. It would seem that these varieties are just as popular as any of the Doubled Die varieties of the past 50 years. The 2000 trades frequently on

Some Thoughts

A day early last week, a day late this week with the journal... I guess it balances itself out? While still eagerly awaiting my new copy of QDB's Encyclopedia of Colonial & Early American Coins which should ship from Amazon in early March (won't you be glad to stop hearing about how I'm waiting for this), I've decided to go back and refocus my attentions in my numismatic interests. The Capped Bust Half Dimes (in the grade and quality I want) are few and far between at a price I am willi

Too Much "Prezzies" On My Mind

Well, not really, sounded like a good title...and yeah, I DO have those coins on my mind Greetings!! Tomorrow I will be off for Prezzie Day, and I am looking forward to spending some good quality time re-taking photos of my coins to maybe improve the quality of the previous shots. I have a great background and lighting idea that should do the trick. I have been thinking a lot lately about the Prezzies that I own, and I now cannot wait to submit them for grading, looking forward to acq
