MY APOLOGIES IF I OFFENDED ANYONE

THAT WAS NOT MY INTENTIONS TO AN UN-NAMED SOCIETY MEMBER, I DO APOLOGIZE IF I OFFENDED YOU. PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGY! I WAS SIMPLY TRYING TO INFORM YOU AND THE REST OF THE COLLECTING PUBLIC THAT THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY TO THE FEW WHO HAD GOTTEN THEIR ORDER IN EARLY. AND I FELT THAT THIS UN-NAMED PERSON ATTACKED MY INTEGRITY. THIS PERSON STATED THAT WHAT THE MINT REP HAD SAID WASN'T "ECHED IN STONE" BUT STATED THAT THE VOINS HAD NOT BEEN RELEASED AT THE SAME TIME. WE ALL KNOW THE MINT CHANGES

A Submission, a View, and a Purchase

My latest submission, my view on the NGC/PCGS registry debate, and a recent purchase. Wow! Nine days from received to finalized shipped! My NGC world submission received Feb 2, 2009 shipped today Feb 11, 2009. My only wish is that my UHR double eagle order from the mint could be half as fast! As with any submission, there are surprises and disappointments. The disappointment, a 2006 silver Britannia, returned as a MS-62. I bought the coin on EBay and should have returned it, knowing there wa

New Holders & The PCGS-NGC Debate

Like the holders, don't agree with the debate... I received my latest submission today, and I must admit I like the new holders more than I thought I would at first. One big selling point of the new holders for me is a lot less holder around the coin. Where I have had problems with this is on the smaller coins, especially dimes and 3-cent pieces. When I go to photograph them, the old holders were thick enough, the coin would be down in them on one side or the other, and all I would get around

re: Why are there so many PCGS sets in NGC's Registry?

Because PCGS overgrades their modern coins and everyone knows they can buy it cheaper with a PCGS label. I have stated before that NGC needs to start exclusive sets that only allow NGC graded coins. There are too many sets with most or all PCGS coins in the NGC registry. This is really unfair that buy the coin and the label and are given no credit at all for this. I believe PCGS coins should have to be sent in to be CrossOver within a certain timeframe or have their points reduced to the ne

Why are there so many PCGS sets in NGC's Registry?

Why are there so many PCGS sets in NGC's Registry? Why do PCGS set owners list in the NGC registry? What purpose does it serve? Should NGC require at least 30% NGC coins? Why are there so many PCGS sets in NGC's Registry? > What purpose does it serve? >> Should NGC require at least 30% NGC coins for a set to be listed in the NGC registry? Or at least 50% are NGC coins! What would your NGC set score be without the PCGS guys? On just a quick look I would be up at least 5 or

My Quest for the "Reverse of 2007" SAE

And I am becoming healthier at the same time.... Greetings!! As I mentioned in a previous journal, I really did not want the "Reverse" coin at first. I was actually also a little put off that having that particular coin in the set would be a requirement to have a complete SAE set. But, time went by, and so did those silly emotions. Now, I crave the "Reverse" coin. I can't wait to get it!! I now have a good plan to go about this as well. On my job, the employees are gi

Will there ever be 30? Hello all! Thanks to Jaime and Jim, I have been able to add a few more "W" quarters to my set. Will there ever be 30? Who knows.....did they ever grade all 30 with the "W" designation? 1999 silver will be the task.....If I get to 25, I'll be happy. Thanks again, and look through your extras...you might just have the ones I need. P.S. My 1958 proofs are in the mail....NGC forgot to do the imaging, so you'll all have to wait.

Florin has indeed landed.. NGC sent it to NCS for me !

I love you NGC So happy.. NGC did indeed receive my proof Canberra florin, and with my special instructions - asking them to send to NCS if they thought they could improve the appearance.. it is now at NCS ! talk about service In other news, I started another set. Australia's Half Sovereigns. The obvious next step since I have one of 7 already. I think I will go for a reasonably matched set in XF which will make some cheap, and all readily available   More on the Florin (2 Shillings)

Passive Collecting

Simply buying desirable items offered by the US mint I have always found a way to make coin purchases through the years by US Mint mailing list. For 25 years I have been a passive buyer from the mint, putting my treasure away in the safe. Periodically, sharing my collection with family or friends that expressed an interest. Back in the late 70 and early 80's I had a passion for coin shows, trade magazines and local coin shops. But my path took many directions and the passion faded but not the

Acquiring the few NGC MS67 FDI President dollars at at a reasonable amount

Why would I pay significantly more for an NGC certified coin of which may be only 3 but overall between PCGS and NGC there may be a pop of 30 to 40 Well Fellows, I would pay more but not substantially more. My reasons are my set is consistent as far as same type/look holder, next I find the simple shape of the holder to be much nicer for feel and stackability, lastly I really feel that NGC does a much stricter agenda on the grading. I have seen picture archives of coins that have sold be

My UHR must be on it's way!

My status is "in stock and reserved" I was just checking my status from the mint and it stated that the coin and the book is in stock and reserved, So I went and checked my credit card online and it showed that the US Mint has charged my account today for the amount of $1193.95. So everyone who ordered this, check your status and your credit card , You might be getting a long awaited surpise in the mail this week! Happy Collecting! Jimmie

A great weekend of coin euphoria!

Grades are back and the local coin show was much more than I had expected! Well, it took about 5 more attempts at the order status button to finally receive that all so important - finalized/imaged/shipped. I sent 2 1958 Wheat cents - both came back MS 66 RD ( I had hoped that I might get lucky on a 67) - they were the 2 best from 2 rolls, I think. I also sent 3 modern Memorial Cents 1987, 1992 & 1994 D - all three came back MS 67 RD - too bad as I thought that 2 of these had 68 potential.

The elusive "W" statehood quarters

I know they are out there! Hello all! I have been fortunate enough to find a few more proof "W" designated state quarters. I am looking for silver mostly, and any clads in PF 70. I know there are 1999 silver proofs out there looking to get into my collection. I'd like to have 70s, but anything with six digits and the "W" are fair game. If you have any you might like to be rid of, I am all ears. I really don't want to pawn the Harley to get them, but I would like a fair price. NGC will

The 1814 SINGLE LEAF

Die lapping (to improve the coin for striking purposes in the US Mint, which used a SCREW PRESS in producing their coins) caused erasure of the leaves on this branch, making it a very scarce variety. Another interesting artifact of the way things were done so long ago, and so precious in the story it tells.

RE: New Lincoln Pennies

You will have to "bank" on this one!! I don't believe the mint will release the mint state coins in rolls. To my knowlege the mint will only release the proof version, in the proof sets, special proof set with the lincoln commerative, and of course the mint state versions will be in the mint sets. However, in saying that, I did find this on the net: "The 2009 Lincoln Cents can be obtained from banks or found in circulation following the official release dates. The US Mint will also sell

NCS Entry

1808 $2.50...A would be monster and an 1834 $5 crosslet 4 with the scratch that mattered. When building my US Coin type collection, I elected to purchase two separate gold coins that I knew would not be accepted in any registry. But they were gorgeous coins with amazing strikes and, except for a long ago, errant cleaning on one of them and a minor tiny scratch on the other, they would be a couple of my flagship pieces. Even as it is, I love these coins and will not part with them. The firs

Good Find

An Olympic Oldie I have just sent in an Olympic bronze medal and it is an oldie and a goodie as well. I found it in a box of foreign coin I had purchased and at first did not realize its importance. The medal is from the fourth Olympiad in Stockholm Sweden and is dated 1912. I have sent it in to NCS for verification etc. and hope to hear from them soon. It is a bronze and though there are copies and various other commemorative types of the Stockholm Olympics this does not appear to be one of t

Very Proud of my Collection

Upon reviewing my coins today, I found I have made great strides. Greetings! There are days when it is easy to get in a sort of rut and lament about the things you don't have while cursing the fact of a bad economy and cursing the fact that for the 4th night in a row you have been awakened from a deep sleep with nightmares about losing your job. It seems like these have been my days lately as the headlines don't bring very promising economy news and lay offs in Utah have only increased

Completing the First Lunar Set?

The story of a set from start to ?Finish? About a year ago I was still deeply involved in trying to build my set of silver American Eagles. I was feeling temporarily burnt out on the set. Some will consider that heresy but it?s true. I like a little bit of variety in my purchases. That?s one of the reasons that I usually have multiple projects going at the same time. While I was having this apathetic feeling towards (what was) my main project, I happened upon a listing on eBay for a coin like

And the Coin of the Month for February is...

The coin of the month for February is an 1846 Seated Dollar. A more common date for this type with 110,600 minted. It is graded AU-55 by PCGS. It has underlying semi-prooflike luster with a moderate gold toning over both sides, a little darker on the rims. There is a little blue along the bottom of the reverse rim. It looks a lot nicer in hand than my photos show.
