Hello all!
Always trying to improve my image/s, I am playing photog with my PCGS sets. Things are going, but not going as well as I had hoped.
I got denied on extra scoring on my "W" sets, and then read the NGC homepage defining the criteria for "star" designation. Strangely sounds like what they labelled the "W" coins for.
In a moment of recovering, I went about cleaning up..
I've been adding to my sets a bit, and I took some time to look forward to 2009'
Is that an ULCER I feel?
Greetings!!
I have a new daily routine..well obsession, really, and that is logging onto usmint.gov and clicking on the American Eagles bar, and checking on any signs of life or reports of the SAE Uncirc coins, and the Proofs for 2009.
The pages are blank, and there are no release dates for either coin.
In between nervous shivers and mass doses of Valium, I can't help but wonder if the Mint is done with the Proof program, as well as the uncircs? The rumors ha
Too many new coins!!!
The US Mint is probably more unorganized now than they were in 1932 when they made the new quarter. They haven't kept their prices stable like the price of the high relief coin and they're making too many new coins at once. There are more new coins coming out this year than there have benn for 10 years! I just had to say something, after all one ocollector has to agree with me at least.
Not always fun, but potentially useful
Yes, I had fun at the Goldbergs' auction of the Naftzger middle date large cents (followed by the sale of the March Wells early dates). I encourage everyone who collects the kind of stuff that appears in auctions associated with the larger coin shows to attend live auction sessions if you can. I attend many in Baltimore, and occasionally make trips to others.
The auction company photos available on the internet and in catalogs are usually good, but ar
best all month!
As i was checking the certifide coins at my local deler shop i saw a mercury dime that was eye chatching so i bought it. As i was walking out the door i stoped to check my change as i always do and something cought my eye with a silver light it was a 1946 D jefferson nickle with blue, green and, yellow toning around the rim it was the best thing i found all month. looks like it could tern out a MS 64+. Dont stop searching there are still beutifull coins out there.
I DID IT!!!!!!
I did it, I joines NGC. I had wanted to do so for 2 years and now have actually joined. I'm probably the only 13-year-old as a member with the collector's society ut that's what makes it intresting. Happy Hunting!
GOT ME A 70
MY LAST ENTRY WAS ABOUT THE 5 2009 ASE(NON W) I SENT IN FOR GRADING. I HAVE RECEIVED THEM AND BY SOME MIRACLE I GOT A MS70 EARLY RELEASES, THE OTHER 4 WERE THE EXPECTED MS69's, BUT MY 4 CHILDREN ARE JUST HAPPY TO HAVE GOTTEN ONE. SO ALL IN ALL IT WORKED OUT PERFECTLY!
NOW I AM JUST WAITING TO GET THE TWO UHR $20 DOUBLE EAGLES, AND SEND THEM FOR EXPRESS GRADING. HOPING FOR 2 70's SO I CAN SELL ONE AND OFF-SET THE PRICE OF THE ONE I AM GOING TO KEEP!
KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED ON
I'm just a "Premium" guy now. No more "Elite" for me, I'm afraid...
I'm not real thrilled about this three-tier membership that just rolled out this past year. However, I understand the need to make money, and so I'm not complaining too loudly. However, I decided that I am not going to be submitting enough coins this year to justify spending an extra $130 for Elite status just so that I can get a 10% discount on grading fees. However, the 5 free grades will come in handy. I have just the candi
I just had to have 'em.
I never intended to start collecting coins at my age(now 61). The great sets I collected with my Grandfather would have been fine, except they were all stolen.
I started a "raw set of eagles when they first came out, but being a single parent, I soon had to sell them off to pay bills.
Well, I finally got a job where I could work decent hours and still be with my son after school. The money wasn't bad, so I thought about coins in slabs. With the little extra I had ev
A quiet week... an anecdote
A quiet week numismatically speaking. Snow last Tuesday and more expected Monday night. Looked at more Mercs online in the past few days and found a couple that I am considering adding to my collection. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, I have a certain "standard" I am going for - not necessarily a "look" (most Mercs look the same to me unless they are worn or toned anyway), not necessarily a grade (I can't really tell much difference between a 65 and a 66 an
Don't be "Taken"
It seems that the only coins that receive a "Star" designation are coins from a hoard or are resubmitted for that designation, which requires another $16 or $30 fee depending on the value of the coin. Even then it all depends on the NGC grader if the coin is of a superior visual value. After all there are no standards. I think that the coin scanned below is worthy of a "Star" designation. Let me know what you think. It was graded NGC MS63.

The coins seem to be not as hot as they were...
Greetings!!
I spent some time looking at my SAE registry today and found the SAE W's (namely the 2006 W) seems to have lost a little bit in their NumisMedia pricing.
I'll never forget the hype over the 2006 W. "The first of it's kind!!!!" "How long will they do this???!!" "Get it NOW before it's too late!!"
Yeah, I know. This is normal amongst those who sell the coins to create a hype and a fever pitch to stir interest. I did think th
Only 500?
Hello everyone!
Well Howard, you made it. The big 500. CONGRATULATIONS!
It is my goal to replace you by the end of the year. The coins I bought from you will help me stand at the 500 mark soon. I am extremely fortunate to be even as close as I am.
Keep up the good work.
If you don't, I'll pass you.
Let's see a 450?
Good Luck!
The Unethical...
There is that age old saying "you have to take the good with the bad." Bad...Stroke (and subsequent week in hospital); Good.. My friends at NGC (thank you Jaxson for being especially awesome); Bad..furnace went out (new cost me $1300 bucks, could have bought some nice coins with that..); Good... I did buy a couple of new coins that I have added to my Proof Washington Quarters, 1950-1964, current ranking is somewhere in the twilight zone, around 46 or something like that, but
Yet another way to love coins...
Greetings!
Thursday nights for me are my big TV nights as I usually watch "My Name Is Earl", "The Office", "30 Rock", which usually falls after my nightly viewing of " Countdown with Keith Olbermann".
After watching the big 4 I usually have turned the channel to "Sober House" on VH1...BUT after the recommendation from NGC to tune into "Treasure Quest" and being a devout coin enthusiast, how could I ignore such a recommendation?
On "Treasure Quest" yo
Banks may not order any more future rolls???
Isn't it strange that the local bank branches which is part of a large midwest banking instition has decided not to order any more business strike presidential dollar rolls? Their reasoning is that they believe there is more than enough dollars in circulation now. SAY WHAT?? Isn't that one of the main reasons why the US Mint and our government started with dollar coins again for circulation is to eventually replace or least reduce the amount of p
MS66 ?! WHAT
I sent a few brand new proof $1 silver subscription coins, NGC seems to have made a serious mistake
My 2006 "pillar dollar" replica has been graded MS66
I am dumbfounded how it could not be graded PF69 or PF70. I will post more as I find out what has happened.. here is the coin, I can only imagine there was no research into it
I noted the coins as SUBSCRIPTION SERIES however, which was also ignored. I sent an email which described the situation while the coins were in the p
Geez, I wish I would have ordered my coin the first day!
The 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin (UH1) originally went on sale on Jan 22 for $1189.00. In the last few days the mint suspended sales while recalculating the sales price. The mint has stated they may/will do this on a weekly basis. The new price as of Jan 29 is $1239.
I wonder whether my original order on Jan 25 for $1189 will stick. The mint told me originally that my coin would ship Feb 06, my latest update is Feb
Sacagawea Dollar
I finally got my 2008 Sacagawea Proof 70 dollar today. I am so excited to start my Sacagawea collection with this coin. So far, this is the lowest Proof 70 of the entire series. I think this coin will only increase in value over the years.
and didn't buy any new coins !!
I really love the direction that NGC is going--particularly in expanding their World Set Registry. For those who haven't noticed, NGC has been working hard at adding new sets to the registry and even taking suggestions in the Forums/Chat area to encourage people to make suggestions.
Imagine my surprise today when I was browsing through the recesses of the back pages here and saw that they had a category for "France". Dare I hope that it coincidentally might b
I can?t wait for them to return home.
I woke up early this morning as if I was going to work and realized that I have the day off. The company that I work for has shutdown for a long weekend and gave us the day off without pay. How nice of them to lookout for us like that.
Well I didn?t want to waste this morning setting around waiting for something to happen, so I started searching the web for some coins that would fit into my sets. I spent several hours looking at coins and didn?t finding
