Knowing When to Stop.

? Sometimes that?s the hardest lesson. I'm not sure I've ever discussed this here, but before I started collecting coins there were 2 subjects that I had truly loved over the course of my life. They both contributed to me becoming a coin collector. The first was history and the second was art. Art taught me a lot of things over the course of the years. Patience is certainly one of them. It?s hard for some people to comprehend spending hundreds of hours over the course of long months working on

Possible Die Clash

Looking for opinions. Good evening, everyone. I am looking for some opinions on this coin. I found this as a reject in the coin counter at the bank where I work. To me, it looks like part of the Lincoln Memorial across Lincoln's head. The problem is that the coin is also bent a little bit at that point. I wasn't able to get a good picture of the dent. At face value, this looks like a die clash from the mint, but I am not sure if this is possible for someone to have faked. Any opinions

STOP THE PRESSES!

I stand corrected Oooooops I just saw a silver PF 70 Connecticut quarter in NGC PF 70 W Ultra Cameo. Simply amazing! I humbly stand corrected. I'd like to thank the owner for bringing it to my attention.

Presidential Proofs

I never knew that they were so nice I recieved my first presidential proof dollar today. Thanks to Chris Chambers. Now, I've collected Canadian proofs for a long time, but this is my first U.S. proof. My compliments to the U.S. mint. It's a beautifully made dollar. I never realized that proofs can be that different. I thought that they were the same, just differnt countries, coins, and mints. Not so, something that I noticed right away was the "sparkle" within the ultra cameo finnish on George

THE UNFINISHABLE STATEHOOD QUARTER SET?

You cannot have this set in PF 70. Hello all! I am off on a tangent again. I have started a set of statehood quarters that are unique, and I believe is only a 30 coin possibility. NGC had graded a few of the PF 69 Ultra Cameo sets of Statehood quarters with a "W" designation. Several months ago I asked if these were special, and all I found out is that the "W" was for a "white" or "whiter" device. I then saw a few offered in a lot with some silver coins I wanted so I got them. After a few

They are bigger, the 2002 is the only smaller one

On Being Tired...

What has happened to my stamina? OH I got OLD!! Greetings!! Well, I knew it would happen to me someday.   I knew I would admit I am getting older. I knew I would realize I just don't bend and move..or HEAR like I used to. I knew I would be thankful for more days off, and longer vacations. BUT one thing has not changed about my persona and physical dilemnas...I still am passionate about collecting. My days are spent a lot of the time thinking about the next coin purchase and

January Is Almost Gone...

...and I'm happy!! Yes, January is almost over, and I've finally received my first 70 on a submitted coin. I received my second submission of the year back from NGC yesterday, and my 2006W Proof Silver Eagle is a 70!!!!!!!!! Actually, I thought the 2007W would be the one, evidently the graders at NGC saw something or didn't see anything as the case may be. Anyway, I"m happy for the 70, and hope this is the first of several. Actually, it was my first submission of the calendar year, but secon

US Mint State Quarter Rolls

Any Answers?? It is my understanding that the first 8 US Mint State Quarter rolls were issued in the red, white, and blue wrappers in a plastic tube with a mint display box. After that US Mint distributed rolls 9-50 were in boxes with the black and orange wrappers. However, through various searches I have located later rolls, including the last (Hawaii) in the red, white, and blue wrappers (the same as the first 8). Any ideas on who is responsible for these rolling of coins?

My Mind is Elastic

I have learned to never say "Never" Greetings!! I have been lamenting the act of collecting things with a friend of mine today, and it seems the commonality of collecting always seems to be change. It seems that as collectors mature, so do the items a collector aspires to obtain. Personally, I have gone from baseball cards to comic books, to autographs, and now to coins which has been my favorite collectible so far, and the one I have been most passionate about. In some of my past j

My 2009 SAE is here!!

It's a beauty! I was thinking of buying a roll of this year's SAEs and picking out the few that might bring back a 70 but I really don't trust my grading skills that much. I still can't tell the difference between a 69 and 70 and don't think I ever will. I have a couple of 08 eagles in 69 and 70 grades and putting them side by side and I can't tell the difference! Mayby later on in the year I will pick up a roll from a local dealer and give it a shot and see how I do. Here is the picture

The Lincoln Cent - Part II

BN vs. RB vs. RD - Why all the hype? In recent days, since I've rekindled my passion for the Lincoln Cent, I've been contemplating just how I'll complete the early dates in certified grades. I started out with a fervor in the 34-58 set with a goal to complete in MS 67 RD - with a couple of exceptions - the 55 double die and the 1935 S, as neither fits any budget I would have unless of course I came upon some very large windfall of cash... I believe this to be a somewhat reasonable goal. I a

Mission accomplished !

Australia's Sovereigns type set complete Having some problems with the signature set itself, but my set is now complete. FIXED ! all images shown and grades correct! I simply deleted the coin from the slot, saved, came back and entered the coin, it didn't fill in the grade (problem here) and once I then edited that coin all in one hit it saved correctly! Ok back to the set. One each of Australia's Sovereigns. 9 coins in all, 7 in Choice Mint State and one available upgrade. I will find a Cho

Posting Pictures of My Coins

Trying to keep the file size down Good morning, everyone. I am finally getting around to posting pictures of my coins and I am running into a file size problem. I am having to use a 7.1 Megapixel camera, setting the resolution to it's lowest setting to get the files small enough to post. Does anyone have a suggestion to getting better resolution pictures while keeping under the file size? I attached one of the pictures that I have taken. Not bad, but the pictures come out much better wi

My 2009 ASE Early Releases!

Dont have the best of feelings about these!! I checked my lastest submission yesterday, 5 2009 ASE Early Releases, that I sent in last week. They are in QC, I hope they fly through QC like the rest of the process. But to be honest I think the highest I will be receiving is a 69. I bought a whole roll this year, the fist time for me. After inspecting them, I sent in the best 5, I just dont think they will make the 70 cut though. I was fortunate enough to purchase one on eBay for $130.

THE LOST '"W" ?

Three years and............poof! I have acquired the 1999-2001-S clad Statehood quarter sets in PF 69 W Ultra Cameo. An S proof 69 W ? Apparently NGC gave this "extra" distinction for a white, or whiter, device on the mirrored field. I just bought the last of the 15 coins I needed to complete a Signature set. I did a clad set, and now I see that there are some in silver also. I added them to my regular Statehood quarter set, but the coins I already had, listed as better. I was hoping that

1919-2008 Sir Edmund Percival Hillary NZ Post PNC

What a beauty.. should I slab a few coins ! This release was missed by many until NZ post was already running low on stock. I am lucky enough to have a few of these, I wonder should I slab some of the coins ! any thoughts ? this is the only way to get the coin, and it has a mintage of 4000 The PNC has sold from anywhere between $75 (ebay got flooded) and $170 (first few sales). I wonder what would be paid for a slabbed MS70 ! this is very interesting to me. If you have comments let me know!

2009 UHR Double Eagle Ordered

My 2009 UHR Double Eagle is on the way, I can't believe it. I've been watching the '09 UHR coin ever since it was first announced. I have been telling myself, "There is no way you can get that coin, you can't afford it!". Well, times have changed it appears. I did my taxes and I have just enough of a tax return to buy this amazing historical coin. I can't wait to see it. I feel so lucky to be in a position to own one. I think this coin is going to be one of those highly collectible coi
