Type Collecting and Registry sets

The joy and focus in assembling a registry set One of my favorite categories of collecting is type coins. I put together a set of major designs (no die varieties) that fit into a picture frame size Capital Holder. Oh Dear What Can The Matter Be

NCS Must Be Busy My coin submission to NCS is dated 1/23/09 and they are still in the evaluation stage. Oh dear what can the matter be. I suppose you have all been through this, waiting and waiting and no change on the submission page report. The one item I am most concerned about is an Olymoic Bronze Medal 1912 Stockholm, Sweden. It is a beauty and vary rare I would say; perhaps that is the hold up as I am sure they do not see these everyday. I must admitt I have high hope for the outcome but

A Snowy Saturday Entry

Some thoughts about my "Skinny Chickens" Greetings!! It's 32 degrees and snowing as i write this today...which means my hands are a bit cold as the space I write in is downstairs in my office...too lazy to turn up the heat!! US Mint will hit my card for heaps soon

And some of you out there too It seems the backlog is clearing, people reporting shipments of stuff they ordered in December, I still have stuff too - Van Buren PF, 1/10 eagles and now the UHR and presidents AND Lincoln commems (which I ordered heaps of, these are gorgeous and so timely) A change of carrier (UPS) has slowed things, what else ? new fulfillment center ? we can expect this to clear out soon Bottom line make sure you have funds ! Awesome return on a modern commemorative!! A couple weeks back I submitted some modern commemoratives to NGC and was overjoyed when the 1995 Civil War clad 50c received a PF-70UC grade! I just got them back the other day and can't keep this coin out of my hands. I find myself looking at it a couple times a day since they came home. I looked up the census report for this coin and shows a about 1100 have been graded by NGC and only 56 have made the 70 grade! This is the 2nd out of 6 50c commem

Thanks NGC for the Super Fast Turnaround Time

My Bronze Medals spent more time with the USPS that they did being graded at NGC. I have sent in many submissions to NGC and this was the fastest turnaround time that I have ever received. My First Spouse Bronze Medals showed that they were received on a Monday afternoon and then showed that they were shipped back that following Friday morning. That was less than 5 days to have them graded. Shoot, they spent a total of 7 days in transit with the USPS (going and returning). This type of ser

My Four Gold Coins Arrived Today From The Mint!

Undecided as to slabbing the two-coin set... Greetings Collectors, I came home today to find a large cardboard box sitting by my front door. I thought it was a couple of books I had ordered from Amazon. When I opened it there lay my two coin 8/8/08 "Double Prosperity" gold coin set, along with a couple of 1/10th oz. Interesting journals entries about the UHR Eagles & no such thing as "EARLY RELEASE"!

It's just a marketing ploy. It sure sounds like everyone is quite excited about the UHR eagles. It has been quite enjoyable reading the entries here and on the chat boards about these coins. It's great to know that there is such a huge interest in them. That being said...I must also add a few tid bits about the "EARLY RELEASE" program from NGC. I hate to burst anyones bubble but it is just a marketing ploy. The US Mint does not release/sell coins earlier then the date specified on their web

US MINT has not sent any UHR Saints yet...

Had a long conversation with mint rep. Greetings Collectors, I have been real busy with work so I have not had a chance to post anything as of late but did want to take the time to share what I learned this evening. I think people need to be a little less "defensive" The reason for my latest post was not meant to be derogratory, mean spirited, or to get into a " contest" about whether or not the UHR's have been sent or not. I simply made some comments about a long conversation I had with what I thought to be a person in the know at the mint. In no way did I portray the person who held Two in his hand out to be a liar. MATHMATICAL ERROR!

I thought my figures were close.......NOT!!! Hello again all! I just checked the PCGS price list for a Sacagawea proof 70 set(9 coin). Yup, only $5,825.00 for a nine coin set. My 10 coin sets in PCGS would be $7,975.00. I can see everyone jumping ship now. Just think of it this way. A 2000 Sac is worth more in PCGS than my entire, 10 coin, NGC PF 70 set. Amazing? A lot of people ask me why I have so many Sac sets. Now you know.

NGC vs PCGS ?

You may not like this......but Hello all! I am one of those that started out with nothing but NGC coins. My Silver Eagle set was (and is) all NGC. In 2000 I bought a MS69 Eagle in PCGS. I didn't like it. SOLD IT!!! I recently did the same thing with a bunch of 2009 Eagles in both MS 69 and MS 70. All my NGC coins are Early Releases. My PCGS is "First Strike" MS 70.
