NGC vs PCGS ?

You may not like this......but

Hello all!

I am one of those that started out with nothing but NGC coins.

My Silver Eagle set was (and is) all NGC. In 2000 I bought a MS69

Eagle in PCGS. I didn't like it. SOLD IT!!!

I recently did the same thing with a bunch of 2009 Eagles in both MS 69 and MS 70. All my NGC coins are Early Releases. My PCGS is "First Strike" MS 70.

Now comes my honest opinion. I have an NGC 69 that should be a 70.

I have 3 69s that should be 69. The last 3 might be between 68/69.

My NGC 70 has a slight imperfection, but I am using 200x. Grading is limited to 5X scrutiny. My PCGS seems completely clean.

Is it perfect.....NO

It shows some slight(200X remember)rubbing in the edge.

Side by side, I see no visual difference except the obvious (slab).

I wish PCGS sold as cheaply as NGC, but in fact, they don't.

My Sacagawea set, in PCGS PFDCAM 70, would cost $5,825.00. My 10 coin sets would be worth over $6,000.

I may send a set to PCGS for crossover. That would improve my net worth drastically.

I am too new and too ignorant to know anything about all of this. I am happy to be making sets, and thank NGC for allowing me to showcase and register(most important)my collection.

I guess as long as there are choices in grading services, there'll be pros and cons for all.

However, my ASE sets will remain NGC, regardless!

Amen

Next case.....

My first submission to NGC came today. My sealed 1958 proof set finally saw the light of day, and is now out of it's 50 year old envelope. They did OK. Better than I expected, but not at the top. They (NGC) forgot to do the imaging, so I scanned them for entry to my sets. I still haven't gotten photography down.

I have a lot to learn.
