NEED HELP AGAIN

ERROR COIN? I was going through my cents again and came accross this 1975 D Lincoln. It appears to have 3 cracks in the obverse the most prominent accross the scalp line the second accross the bridge of the nose the third just nearly accross the middle of the chin. They all appear to start at the top right at theouter lip of the coin going down and to the left. The top one almost makes it accross the coin, the other two alittle less so with each one. The reverse does not show any of this,

Where oh where did the FMV go

Been gone over 2 months now and I cannot find them Another day, another mystery. Greetings once more my fellow collectors. Today I went to check on the FMV of my Lincoln Union Shields since they have been missing for more than 2 months now. I guess I should clarify that the 2010 initially had a FMV of $250.00 for a long while and then about 2 months ago that value disappeared and no value for the 2011 or 2012. I posted this question to the chat board and was informed it was a glitch in the

Great coin designs/designers where are you?

Eagles-R-it started a thought I just can't put aside. I tend to agree that the new circulation coins are dull, flat and lifeless. The quality has a lot to be desired, as we are supremely focused on how to make a billion coins a month. Even the collector coins are fraught with stories of horrendous striked, contact marks and just plain junk. What it must have been like to live in an era when you could have searched through your coins and looked at Indian Cents, Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, S

TODAY'S COINAGE

LINCOLN CENT To all the Lincoln cent people out there. I just started to dabble in the buy a few rolls of pennies to see what would happen. WHAT A SURPRISE. I bought 10 rolls from my unfriendly bank, they really did not want to sell me the rolls, but the big wig over rode them. Anyway here is what I am getting at, It seems like anything new is junk. Green, crusty, very very poorly struck, and quite frankly a big disappointment. Of course it seems only the 2000 and up is the worst. I fig

How to support your shiny habit?

Does this sound familiar? "you buy one more coin this month and thats it you'll be sleeping with them!" Unless you are independently wealthy the difference between 'ooo shiny I gotta have it' and 'aww I cant afford it' is frequently not very far apart. So what is a collector on a budget to do? Personally I use the culling method to build my sets and collections. I invest in junk silver and that has helped me to start a nice collection of standing liberty halves (I even have a xf 1917S OBV tha

1986 S JEFFERSON NICKEL

1986 S JEFFERSON NICKEL NGC GRADED PF 70 UC Hello my friends, I was luckly enough to have a 1986 S Jefferson nickel grade PF 70 uc from a 1986 Prestige set. I know as of last week NGC had only graded 7 coins in this grade. Could anyone please look at PCGS and see how many they have at this grade? Thanks God Bless and happy collecting To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

1957 Jefferson Nickel NGC MS66 5FS

Obtained a 1957 Jefferson Nickel NGC MS66 5FS from Teletrade Auction #3299 for $300 and 201 registry points. The coin was won using a max bid of $400. My bid was actually very low because I could not verify the step detail in the Teletrade photos. Just one month earlier, I made a bid of $862 for a 1957 Jefferson NGC MS66 5FS in the Heritage CSNS sale but was outbid. 1957 5C MS66 5FS: NGC Census: (18/0). PCGS Population (8/0) (6/12). UNGRADED MINT SETS

RAW Collection in OVERDRIVE Friends, I have recently decided to collect the longest run I can do of uncirculated and proof mint sets still in packaging or holders, sets, whatever. The farther you go into the past--- The harder to obtain and then there are actually a few key years that are usually robbed of the coin that was important to the set. I will trade any graded coins on my Six Mile Rick page for some sets you may have purchased a while back but never added more, or never got around

Hello Everyone

It's been awhile. I have been on hiatus from collection for a number of months. I am looking to make a career change to photography, so my money has been spent setting up a camera system so that I can slowly practice and transition. Over the weekend, I picked up a few coins: 2012 Kennedys, Lincoln and Sacagawea all in proof to get those collections back up to date. In addition, I picked up a Lincoln for my MS65 set, a Morgan for my MS63 collection and a couple of the Westward Expansion Ni

First Montford Point Marines Medal census

They were the first modern African American U.S. Marines (MPM) but, I got the first MPM Medal NGC census points. I received my five Montford Point Marines Medals in the mail this past week. I was dismayed by two things-- I did not get any MS70 grades and I did not receive the -- first issued-- label, as I had hoped. Here are the grades: 1.5 inch medal _ 1 NGC MS64; three NGC MS67; 3.0 inch medal_ NGC MS69 (only one posted onto the NGC Census) I did, however, after seeing the census

So What is an NGC 70?

Can a MS 70 or PF 70 Coin Have Any Imperfections? What is a 70? According to the NGC website,"NGC defines a Mint State or Proof 70 coin as having no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification." Does this mean a coin that that has pre-production imperfections rate a 70? What about an incomplete strike, like missing some of the points on a star? Can this be a 70 coin too? I've seen many NGC PF 70 coins that under 5x magnificant will have a very minor pit or flaw in the field. I assume t

Making More Room

Trades,Trades and more Trades Friends, As I usually get a box of mint sets, proof and circulated coinage from the Cash for Silver and Gold store the pile was getting pretty high. I have sold a few and done a few trades on clusters of 15 sets or so. It's not the regular trading of usual for slabbed coins but it does work well trading the sets for raw morgans, peace dollars and cash. My latest trade was 5 Silver Proof sets of which I traded for scrap silver; Morgans, Walkers, Franklins, and a

Ever wonder why there are no mint marks on 1965-1967 coins?

IT's all your fault. if you were collecting in 1964 I just read an article by David W Lange that explains why. It's all the coin collectors fault. At least that's what congress thought , but maybe they were wrong. Here's the link http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?IDArticle=711 To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends!

Beautiful Addition to Morgan GSA Registry Set. Major thanks go out to Norman Fitzwater for helping me move up several spots in registry ranking by selling me one of his 1880 Rev 78 GSA Morgans. This beautiful MS65 Exemplar is now the current cornerstone of my set. Norman has two of the most beautiful Morgan GSA Registry sets and I am very fortunate and proud to be able to obtain a coin from his collection to add to mine. Thank you Norman! A pleasure to meet you indeed! To see old co

Speaking of dipping and cameos....

or My adventures....part 2.5 I had purchased a lot of 20 1966 special mint sets around two years ago. On initial inspection, I was disappointed in the quality of the coins, most were hazy to some degree, and Dammit! there were no "no FGs" or DDOs as far as I could tell. Also, there was a distinct lack of cameos, or so I thought. I vaguely remembered that one or two of the halves appeared to be somewhat cameo, but unfortunately the fields were hazing and mottled. A few weeks ago I revisite

The front of my dipped 1966 no FG half

The haze has stayed away... Here is the front of the half previously discussed. Perhaps I should have used NCS, but I have had good luck dipping hazy coins in the past, and never had one body bagged. My adventures with the "100 Greatest", part 2

to dip or not to dip.... After my purchase of the 1990 no S cent, I searched Ebay for other coins to submit for the "100 Greatest" label. I found a 1966 SMS with a "no FG" half. The photos were not very good, but I was in a gambling mood and decided to take a chance with it. I got the set in the mail today, and to my pleasent surprise, the half looked nearly flawless! After examination with 10X I am convinced that it should be a strong MS67! Only problem was a light milky haze that tends t
