Ever check a coin value and have a heart attack

Found an 1880 O Morgan when I was helping with an estate. Wow there are still a lot of gem's out there. This was a deep mirror proof that I could use to shave with. If NGC tells me it's circulated I'm looking for a new grading company. Then I looked at the value for this coin and just about passed out. So keep looking there's treasure out there. If its a MS63 like I think it is i'm taking the family on a realy nice vacation To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comment

State Quarters Are actually cool coins

At the gem level these area really some cool coins with a lot of thought. After wading through over 10k coins though it makes me want to throw someone. This is my first round of grading of Gem state quarters that Rich and I have been working on. Part of my business is providing market appraisals and liquidation for estates and this guy had bought over 4 monster boxes of state quarters ('99-03). I've narrowed the field to what I think are my best 15 coins of of 6 rolls and I'm a little nervous

State quarters varieties

South Carolina Who else has found a DDR at the 'olina' as well as oil marks I've got about 200 rolls of these and I've only found 3 so far but that would suggest a lot of varieties are out there. Takes a lot of time and my eyes are starting to cross but this is fun. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Some items I have

I have some great coins now but too many of the same thing. Starting to list items in as many places as possible. You guys have been a lot of help and I hope I can pay you back someday. I just listed a few half dimes to test the water in the sell and trade area and I've already sold/traded them. Just 3 days. I wish I had the cash to finish all my sets but I need to sell some stuff to be able to buy more. Thats why I love shiny things. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. N

I found a coin club finally

When out in the middle of no where it's hard to find people to learn from I live in a town like mayberry. Last drive by was probably in the 1700's. The nearest coin dealer that I would trust is about an hour away and coin clubs and shows are almost nonexistent. So I was just about to give up when I discovered this I get all the benefits of a coin club without the pain of dues or meetings. So far people have been friendly and I have been offered all kinds of help. Thank you all so very much.

Try try again

Just when you think you are getting the hang of this Not sure how but a coin that my Grandma got straight from the bank in 1928 was graded as being cleaned. Now I understand that it was in circulated condition, but no body cleaned coins then and I know my grand ma didn't clean it and I know I didn't clean it. What is a guy to do. And I still cant get the hand of telling difference between a ms 63/64/65 and it's starting to really irritate me. And lets not even talk about the AU58 coins. So far

What's a collector with ADOS to do

You've heard of ADHD well I have ADOS Attention Deficit ooooo shiny I've been a bullion trader and collector for years (note still shiny stuff) and my wife inherited a collection of proof sets a little while back that peaked my interest in coins and then I discovered that uncirculated coins are a lot prettier than the circulated Junk Silver I sell. So I see a nice liberty and ohh gotta have it, then a morgan oooo must have, then a peace then an Ike or a franklin. So as you can imagine my colle

How to support your shiny habit?

Does this sound familiar? "you buy one more coin this month and thats it you'll be sleeping with them!" Unless you are independently wealthy the difference between 'ooo shiny I gotta have it' and 'aww I cant afford it' is frequently not very far apart. So what is a collector on a budget to do? Personally I use the culling method to build my sets and collections. I invest in junk silver and that has helped me to start a nice collection of standing liberty halves (I even have a xf 1917S OBV tha
