Linda C Prescott Birth Year Set

Only One Left. Yesterday I received my newest addition to this #1 Mint Set, a 1947 P MS67 Jefferson Nickel. It is top pop as there are no 5FS or 6FS in 67 at NGC. One of 17 in the grade. Read my set description to see the story behind the acquisition of this coin. Finally! With this new addition, this leaves me one coin short of an all NGC MS67 set. Not to bad on my budget. The 1947 S Jefferson is my next target. Since beginning my mom's set in 2007, I have yet to see one come up for

Attended my 1st Coin Show, I will be back.

Wow there is a lot of fun and history in our hobby After attending my 1st show, I can tell any of you new collectors like myself once you go you will want to go back. For me, I as able to bring my son with me and as I was telling him about some of the coins I knew a little about. Almost every dealer was able to expound on what I was telling him and not only enhance my sons knowledge but mine as well. Thank you for all of the dealers out there who are willing to take the time to share what

The thrill of the local coin show!

I find that I don't buy much these days... Interesting how things change. Learning to grade, spot cleaned coins and generally a lack of interest in common grade coins and an aversion to overpay for coins means that I don't get to buy much at coin shows... The grading issue is my biggest challenge as I've learned to have the finest in champagne taste, if you know what I mean. I always go with the intent of finding that next great gem for my Roosevelt dime - ex mint set, OBW roll or dealer sto

Colorful 1935 Buffalo Nickel - MS 67 * (STAR)

Another Amazing and Colorful NGC STAR Coin! If you've read my journal before you know I collect Mercury Dimes and try to find examples of those coins in MS 67 FB or better with the coveted NGC * (STAR). Here is a very nice example of a 1935 Buffalo Nickel in MS 67 * (STAR) condition. While I will probably never complete a collection of Buffalo Nickels I still try to find interesting examples to add to my growing collection. I think this picture also says it all. 2 ASE SFO Set

I just received 5 minutes ago my ..... I just received 5 minutes ago my 10 ASE SFO 2 coin set. Just sitting in my garage along with my LL Bean order. Will send all to NGC. I wrote a big note on the box to my hubby -DO NOT OPEN I do not want him to screw it up like he did last year with the 5 coin anniversary set. That cost us $7500 to buy a box that was not opened. You never know what you'll find....

Pulled out a winner Greetings all, Read a while back and forgive me but can't remember who wrote about finding a gem or two in coins put back and not graded for whatever reason and you tend to forget them. Well, I recently remembered this one container of proofs that I thought I might get graded someday when I got around to it. Well, that day came and went and now I have a really nice 1950 Lincoln proof that just recently was returned with a number of other coins I submitted

New adition just received from Scotsman Auction

Just received 3 cent silver in mail- trime time ! I just recived this lovely MS63 1860 3 cent silver, and added this "trime" to my 19th century type set. From 1860 - 1873 the star has two outlines, this particular coin being very well struck. What really stands out is the thick navy-blue and grey patina exhibited on both sides, simply a wonderful, original coin. The 3CS's are the smallest US coins, with the Type 3's at only .75 grams, by comparison a silver 1964 dime is 2.5 grams. With such

Garys August Coin of the Month

This Months Coin of the Month is an NGC MS-66, 1971, 200 Rupee gold coin (KM# 39) from the island nation of Mauritius and is dedicated to my wife Linda. The Island of Mauritius is a small island east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The island was uninhabited when Arab sailors first landed there during the Middle Ages. In 1505, the Portuguese became the first Europeans to discover the island. Eventually, the island came under the control of the Dutch (1598-1712), the French (1715-1810), and

Time to "change" up a bit

"More Change" is the answer!!! Friends, I have been working on a few deals to acquire top grade dimes, nickles, and pennies. I got with a few dealers and found one for Lincoln cents but got the strangest e-mail today from him. He was offering me German Notgeld Notes (paper emergency money - 1920s). A far cry from Lincolns and I don't know what I would do with 8000 pristine German notes. However he did tell me he had 50 bags of Lincolns that he would bring up to me in November. So until then

RE: REGISTRY POPULATION

To answer a question from Meatglazier I find 7227 different members. However some of those are deceased and others are on to other hobbies and no longer around. Some members have 2 pages and most dealers have no competition points (they are also considered members in my book). I would guestimate that there is 3500 actual members. Give or take 1000 or more. Should be enough to fill the boat/rocket below you think??? Later---Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. N

A Neat Little Custom Set

And Inexpensive to Boot! Folks, I have been in a bit of coin collecting doldrums lately. I have 4 coins on a want list with JJ teaparty, I have added a couple of inexpensive Peace Dollars to my registry. But, I have not made any purchases that I would consider significant or even sexy. So, I have decided to put together a small inexpensive custom set consisting of the different types of El Yunque quarters available. I am not going to focus on labels, just the actual coins.
