O-K NGC ------ now I do feel like chopped liver!!
Thank YouFriends, well not really sure of what the deal is after two submissions in a row showing excellence and getting the lower bar code thrown at me. I guess overall O-K but there are just more MS66 FTs in the pot than I imagined. Only ONE---68 and TEN---67s. Not sure NGC will see another one with my name on it.To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
A rarity in the Roosevelt variety series.
Ever since I had a top pop MS 66 FS-802 (VP-002) dime variety graded, I was envious over anyone that would have a FT example of this coin.
1970 - D
DDR FS-802 VP-002 variety
NGC Grade - MS 65 FT
Purchase Price - $99.99 delivered.
This is a very nice lusterous example with an MS 66 obverse but a somewhat marked up reverse that pulls the grade down to MS 65. The FT designation is marginal by my standard and what I might would lable a 7/8 torch.
The reverse of a winner
I posted this shot for Lehigh as asked. Enjoy the smoothe overall tones.

Got the 1899 P Morgan back from grading.
The 1899 P Morgan Dollar that I picked up in a shop while on vacation is on it's way back to me. Coming back AU Details - Stained. Certification is 2583999-004 and the pics are up on NGC. I will take it since I got such a good deal on the coin.

Advice on how to improve ranking? PR70 maybe...
I just put this COMP set in tonight and it was a lot of fun. My ranking is 100, why can't I be number one? Maybe if I replace all the PR69's for PR70's....If anyone would like to help get my ranking up on this particular set send me a pm, I am willing to trade, barter, and have SOME cash. I would really like to get into the top 5.... Let's have some fun with this one....
Anyway I am looking for advice on what you guys think of my latest
Finally acquired the the elusive one
Below is the pic of my latest acquired 1959 NO "KG" S.A. Union 3p. With a population of only 13 this coin is quite difficult to get hold of. With a real nice grade of MS63 i am very happy to fill my Union 3p slot with this one, and the point acquired is not bad either
This surprized me!!!!!
I like collecting pandas, usually the 10 Yuan. Well I was taking pics tonight and adding them to my collection and came across an 1987 China Panda graded by ICG PR64-DCAM. After goingto ICG's web site I discovered that it was the only one they graded. I guess that means pop 1 from ICG...It is a silver round and am wondering if Ihave a diamond in the rough? If anyone has any comments please let me know......

It's that time.
No, I'm not quitting this hobby! I love it too much! However, I am selling my proof American Eagles to those who wish to make offers. I am going to keep all of the ones that are part of sets such as the 2006, 2011 and 2012 sets but all others are up for grabs. I have decided that with all of the research into Jefferson Nickels I will give them a run for awhile as well as Indian Head Half Eagles. I tend to like the older coins more anyway and they make way too many Eagles to kee
My latest submission
Friends, On my latest submission I sent in a dime I just knew would garner a star but somehow missed the shot. I did a little research on the whole star attribute and learned a little this weekend on submitting toned coins. A coin can be wonderfully toned "BUT" if it has a small dark brown area turning or going black it will not receive the star.
I am still pleased with the MS67 grade on a 1949 coin that I got for almost nothing. I thought to pass on the toning tips and
This seller obviously must be totally confused as to what it takes to buy and sell coins
This seller only has an image of the obv of the coins in all his listings and not a close enough image to get a good Idea as to the condition of the coin. hers alink to the image. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-S-PCGS-PR-68-RED-SMALL-DATE-CAMEO-LINCOLN-CENT-GORGEOUS-PENNY-/130758522118?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1e71d0b506

It took almost a month to work out the details, but ...
she goes in the mail tomorrow. My newest addition: a 2012 P MS69RD Lincoln. OK, I will admit you almost certainly have to be a Lincoln lover (or maybe just a top pop purist) to understand what this coin means to my sets.
First, this is a pop 3/0 coin. Granted, it is early in the penny year and others may surface. But look at it historically. In 2006 there are only 4 MS69RD business strikes (I acquired one of those via trade not lon
An excellent token catalog website to contribute, learn from or use as reference ...
I was web surfing a few weeks ago for online Hawaii token references and found a token catalog website. I booked marked the website for future exploration. Tokens at the website are listed by state. The website also lists tokens by country.
How I used it for a reference....In the September 2012 issue of The Numismatist, page 42, article on Hawaii's Railroad Tokens, has a photograph on 1 of 3 known examples o

Septembers Coin of the Month (Volume 2, Number 1) is an NGC AU-55, 1897 close date, Cuba Souvenir Peso.
Modeled after the Columbian Exposition Half Dollar, the purpose of the 1897 Cuba Souvenir Peso was to raise money for the Cuban Revolutionary Party and their war for independence against Spain. On May 10, 1897, the head of the Cuban Revolutionary Party, Don Thomas Estrada Palma, placed an order with the Gorham Manufacturing Company for three million souvenir pesos. As per their agreement, de

coming home to a full PO Box and 3 coin packages takes some sting out of a relaxing vacation ending
Due to some various circumstances my wife and I did not take our usual February vacation to break up the winter. We both have been at our current professions and companies long enough that we qualify for several weeks vacation per year. Our usual practice is a vacation in mid-winter to break up the doldrums and get away alone together, and then we also take a late summer trip which will include
Plate coins are superb examples of the coin type
Coins of rarity are photographed and were included in the plates of a book as a reference. Hence the term "plate coin". Today, coin photographs are still used in numismatic references (books periodicals, websites, etc...).
I was pleasantly surprised to make the visual connection between a former coin of mine (Kingdom of Hawaii quarter dollar NGC MS66). I sold it for a tidy profit. The photograph used by NGC at its NGC Coin Explorer for the Haw
The Flip Side!!!
Cant leave out the full color reverse. A little out of focus but both pics need to show more color anyway. I will work on that when I have more time.

A great trade this week landed a sweet Walker!!!
Friends I set aside a day for a 150 mile each way trip for a trade of Franklins for Walkers. I have wanted a nice Walker for my Type set for years and finally have a piece entered. An exceptionally well strike at a MS66* and a beauty to behold in tones. I just did a couple shots for this journal but will work on a better one for the future pic in the set.
ENJOY----

So after reading the comments on my last post,
especially from Hunter's Gold and Six Mile Rick, I decided to ask NGC for a score adjustment on my new 1981 P MS67RD. I did this on Monday. So I open up the site tonight to find that those of us with one in our sets had received an increase of 632 registry points for the MS67RD! If I'm not mistaken, everyone with at least an MS64RD got the increase of some points.
Now I'm not saying it was my effort alone, but maybe the cumulative effect of e
