My Daughter Is Getting Married.

Time to sell a few coins! Weddings are expensive propositions, and the father of the bride gets to foot the majority of the bill. It's time to clean up the sets a bit anyway, so this has given me a little added incentive. It's been a while.

Sometimes life just gets in the way of what's really important. Numismatics! I haven't written any journals lately, but I hope to be a little more prolific later this year. I received my wooden plaque from NGC a few weeks ago, and I realized that it's been almost two months since the Registry Awards were announced. Even A Blind Squirrel sometimes finds a nut..... I faithfully purchased the 2014 4 coin lunar typeset and sent it in for grading, with the unc colorized specimen coming back a "70." Are we coin collectors all a little crazy?

Or do we grasp for any straw to justify our OCD issues related to coin collecting? Working for a bank paid off again. Being a collector, I feel blessed to work at a bank, particularly on days such as last week. We got a cash shipment in and we received two bricks of FED wrapped $1 bills. I always get excited when we receive FED wrapped money, because the possibility of interesting serial numbers is there. One journey to the next...

Sooooooo, major changes are coming (have already started) to my sets. When I started my Lincoln 1959-Date set in 2005 I had no idea what type of grades I was going to fill the set with. Fast forward to January 10, 2014 and I had the #3 set in the series. Aside from topping Doug's or Jack's set, there is no where else to go. What Does It Take ?

I have not received my coins back yet from being graded but I checked the website and boy what a disappointment! I thought I had figured out a secret to looking at proof sets still in the mint plastic and depending on the way they were toning I was sure to get a cameo or two. I bought four different early 60s proof sets and a 1955 proof set using my theory on four different occasions from four different dealers and found that I was getting cameos every time they were toned in this way. NOW MY COLLECTION HAS A PRINCESS

Last adoptee : Adoption Central now closed down for cleaning. Today, UPS brought to my door the last of my trade INS. I have been doing a lot of trading and buying recently, attempting to change my collection from mostly modern to mostly pre-1933 gold, Morgans, and silver US coins. First Goal Reached!!!

Old Green Holders... Smaller Rattler Slabs vs Regular Size OGH Slabs?

To me these two types of slabbed coins along with the old NGC "Fatty" Slabs are by far the best of the older slabs. And the oldest slabs from the oldest third party graders that go by the name... What is Better, NGC, PCGS or ANACS? or buying from The HSN?

In my opinion only two of the above are worth owning...& HSN is one place that should be exposed as to who & what they are... No Joy Today

The down side to too much snow. Well, in my Baltimore suburb we got about 12 inches of snow from the first blast of this storm. That was enough to close many work places and schools. I spent over 4 hours digging myself and a neighbor out this morning. Part two is dumping a few more inches as I type. I was anticipating arrival of two packages today: an acquisition, pictured below, from the recent Heritage auction; and a couple new SAEs. The tracking information says both are out for delivery
