SPECIAL FATHERS DAY

Love And Care For Each Other. It is once again Fathers Day, so I pulled out your favorite coins. I have been feeling your presence quite strongly of late. This year is special because you are now with the centerpiece of my life. The daughter-in-law whom you loved so much is now with you. I feel both of your spirits watching over me. You are not alone this Fathers Day, Dad. Diana is with you, and you are both in my heart. Love and care for each other. Happy Fathers Day, Dad!!! I love y

A pleasant surprise!

And I thought I was done with American coins! So, as many of you know, I haven't been an active collector of many American coins for quite some time. In fact, I made myself so completely miserable trying to collect Classic US coins that I thought I was done with American coins for good....and then this last week happened..... My girlfriend's parents had a 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set that they were looking to sell to help fund a down payment on a new vehicle. Initially, my girlfr

A hunting I will go...

Came back with two small trophies. One is an 1885 S $5 MS60 and the other is a coin I did not know existed. An Oregon Quarter. 1933 D MS 64 I got these while foraging throughout the Palm Beach County nooks and crannies. Along with these two graded coins, which by the way are up for adoption, I also purchased in the box of scrap metal a 1904 $20 Liberty head, which I feel should grade out about MS 62, but if I get an AU 58, I will be estatic. Along with that I got an Indian. I just traded

Nearly 60 but can not retire and just was laid off

See anything you like below, let me know WOW... One can never really be prepared when you get laid off from work. When you get close to retirement age and realize you may never get to really retire, it does get depressing. Doesn't matter how old you are when it happens, it feels the same way. Problem is that I have three grown children and all of them are out of work as well. I been trying to help out with two of them moved back home...again. Most of you have already experienced this you

Any MS cents have a designated PL for them

Mirror like surfaces Just to kill some time and get back to coin collecting, I goet $2-$3 in pennies and sort through them for the copper (pre-1982), and some great condition pre and post 1982. Today's find was a 1963, my birth year, in BU and some 1997's. Hard to believe 1997 was 17 years ago. Anyhows, I had come across some 2013's with a mirror like finish. Are there any designations? Poor 2014 U.S. Mint Sets

Submitted only 18 coins from 55 Mint Sets What can I say. You wait all year for the next annual Mint Sets to arrive hoping to find just one MS69 coin. For me, that hasn't happened yet and after going thru 55 Mint Sets, it won't be this year either. Out of 1,540 coins, I was only able to find 18 good enough to submit for grading. My only real goal is to populate my Presidential Business Strike Registry set. All duplicates and other coinage are sold to support my habit. Here is the res

The Double Vision Lincoln Cent Collection

How much can 7 cents be worth Hi everyone. I just picked up my latest addition to my Double Vision Lincoln Cent Collection this past weekend from the Heritage Auction. Here is my NGC PF68*RD 1971 S FS-102 doubled die obverse Lincoln Memorial. I have been looking too add this coin for a long time and the opportunity finally came up. The last example of this coin that I can find auction records on was an example sold by TeleTrade back in September 2009 which was a PF68RD without the star des

Garys June Coin of the Month

Just a month ago, I had no clue I would be featuring a coin from the Saddle Ridge Hoard as the Coin of the Month. Nevertheless, here I sit today as an improbable owner of a coin recovered from the greatest buried treasure find in the history of the United States. When I first heard the news of the Saddle Ridge Hoard, I found myself spellbound by many of the storys elements. Adding to my fascination is the incredible odds against anyone uncovering buried treasure of this enormity and value. The

1948-D roll of cents

Just picked up a roll of 1948-D Lincolns This should prove interesting for me. I have a few coins to send in to be graded. A few 1956 D/D cents, a 1911 rd cent, and now I have to go through this roll of '48-D's. IF things go well, I should have a few more MS-67's to add to the collection. IF not? well let's just say that I am going to have some coins for sale to fund the acquisition of some more coins. I also have that 1955 Cameo Proof set to send in. I just may go broke doing this! I need help identifying what I believe to be a Gay 90's Token

This may have been a prototype for what was to become New London, Connecticut Gay 90's token Rulau #Nln 5 JOHN A. MEADE of which only two are known. Rulau #Nln 5 measures 25mm and has two sides This token measures 26.2mm, weighs 4.75 grams and has only one side which reads JOHN A. MEADE above 5C in the center and IN TRADE below I have had this piece for decades and have never been able to find anything out about this token. Any info would be greatly appreciated Best regards

Wow! I gained SEVEN more #1* ranked sets over night by doing virtually** nothing.

*"Obscured sets are not eligible for awards and will not receive a rank. They are placed according to their score." Check out the news story at http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/news/ViewArticle.aspx?IDArticle=4055&Obscured-Sets-in-the-NGC-Registry. I've now got the highest rank in seven more competitive sets, but other sets with higher scores are still listed above mine. I appreciate what NGC has done, and I think they're on the right track, but it does taint one's improved ra

Treasure Hoard Comparison

Brother Jonathan (BJ) vs Saddle Ridge (SR) Every once in a blue moon I get smitten (more likely bitten) by the gold bug and the romantic lure of treasure gold. What was it that Seinfelds Kramer character said about LA ? Oh yes, to quote: Jerry, its L.A.! Nobody leaves. Shes a seductress, shes a siren, shes a virgin, shes a whore ! Yup, this sale got me, and after the prerequisite hemming and hawing, I final purchased a 1879S $20 Double Eagle. Now let me say right away that the coin is pr

Completed Raw Silver Roosevelt Set incl. All ODVs Today

It turned out to be a little harder than I was expecting... A few months ago, I set a goal of putting together a complete set of raw silver Roosevelt dimes that, in my opinion, graded between MS 60 and MS 65 and included all of the CONECA-documented obverse die varieties (ODVs). And I just added the last coin to the set today. The set includes 55 coins in total and consists of all dates and mints from the 1946 to 1964 run of Roosevelts including: * 1946 P, D, and S with ODV-001 and ODV-002

My CAC Type Set Progress

Recent additions to my CAC approved Type Set (custom NGC registry set). And my thoughts on future purchases. I have been hunting for new coins to add to my CAC Type set, and it's getting harder! I recently created a "want-list", and listed every circulation strike US coin type I could think of. I marked many types as "TOO COSTLY" to buy, as my budget is $100 to $350 per coin. I marked coins I already own, and marked coins in RED that I am actively searching for. My budget only allow

New adoptee came today.. 1877 S MS61 $10

This one will sit in my "Battleship Row" Today, the postman did not have to ring twice. As the clock rolled over and over today, and 4 PM passed, and I had gotten my notice from UPS that it was on its way, I was getting concerned and walked outside looking for the UPS truck. No sooner than I opened the door, the driver was walking up the driveway with my treasure. I have been trading up for some months now, and I came across this coin and with quite a bit of palaver back and forth, I made

I wonder when it is time to buy a small track-hoe?

I had mentioned a while back in a thread about gold that I was tempted to do a bit of digging in an old creek bed back in the woods on my property and focus on an old small waterfall. I finally got around to it with a shovel, metal detector, 5 gallon bucket, and my water hose back at the house. Brought some good looking dirt out, by bucket, and worked it with a pan using the grand kids little swimming pool. I did this on 5 different occasions and on each I would only dig up one, and sometimes

Finally satisfied, I completely closed out my Mint State 1950 P,D,S Roosevelts with the best monsters

7 years in the making I do believe this is the first all STAR Roosevelt Mint State MS68 Full Torch P,D and S ever brought together. I have been collecting Roosevelt's since 2007.. Long struggles and sometimes just waiting to see what pops up. Even though I do believe Roosevelt's are one of the hardest series in the modern coins. High grade, plus finding the rare full torch is a challenge, among challenges. Here is the Rarity breakdown 1950-P MS68*FT POP 1 with none better. 1950-D MS68*F
