Rare 1877 Indian Cent, Not

This coin is anything but rare, just check out any major auction. This coin was brought from Rick Snow. It got the PS designation but only, in my opinion, because of the date. This coin is poorly struck on the its right side, including the date and AMERICA on the obverse and the bow and arrows on the reverse. The fact that I bought it means the only person I really have to complain about is myself. I chose the coin. With that said I am a bit tired of hearing that this is the toughest is

Wowwwww Hi Everyone       Its been a while since I wrote in my journal.       I just wanted to take a minute to do a little bragging about my reason upgrade of a 1929 1 Krona that was graded by NGC in MS-65 that I just Won at the Stacks online auction last night,,,They described it as having full luster which is a bit rare for these coins,,, I have a ms-63 in a PCGS holder that has full luster but with a planchet flaw,,,,So this will be a great addition to my collection,, especially

Recent 1970-D 10C Rev of '68 (FS-901) PCGS Submission

Several weeks ago I took an interest in the transitional reverse varieties on the 1969 and 1970 Roosevelt dimes after reading an article in CONECA's Errorscope. It's not a very much discussed variety (nor is the Roosevelt series the most valuable among collectors, adding to its obscurity), but I think it's a neat little nugget of U.S. coin history.       In the Cherrypickers' guide as FS-901, it seems that a 1968 proof reverse die was used on some 1969-P, 1970-P, and 1970-D business-struc

Monday Morning Musings

Just a few random thoughts Just a few random thoughts on a lazy Monday morning, ( I guess everyday is lazy for me now in retirement).       Reading about the ANA show and the US Mint's latest offering fiasco wasn't all that surprising to me as I saw the crazies and the lines at the Spring Baltimore Show. What did Gordan Gekko say about greed?       Speaking of movies, caught one of my favorite comedies that I hadn't seen in a long time, Trading Places with Eddie Murphy. One favorite

Well I tried

lost my shirt on this one Well Hello Fellow collectors, I jumped in with both feet with my first try auctioning my coins at a highly recommended site. And had to buy some of my own coins to keep from giving them away. lesson learned, I'll now try and sell my coins in the money market place at least there I can decline an offer and make a counter offer. I now have 2 topic lines of coins for sale in the money market place. but that's not the reason for this post I suggest that you search the auc

A Pre-ANA Show NEWP for my 7070 Type Set

This coin is the one I didn't want to get away by waiting until I arrived at the ANA show on Friday. Back in April I scoped out a 1877 MS-62 proof-like quarter at the Central States show that I really liked. At the time I did not have the funds to purchase it and I bought a MS-63 1863 Indian Head Cent instead. With that, I followed the dealers web page hoping the quarter wouldn't sell before I had the chance to buy it and to this date the coin had not sold.       In the mean time the deal

1 YEAR, 170 COINS, 2,000 VIEWS! I created my set GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION one year ago this month and have since had so much fun acquiring 170 NGC graded silver coins from around the globe and my set has had over 2.000 views by fellow collectors.       Looking forward to meeting more passionate collectors at shows around the country and online. Enjoy this amazing hobby and if you have time give my set a view (I welcome constructive criticism and any compliments).           [/

It's worth what someone will pay for it.

I'm thinking that I am beating around the wrong bushes at the moment. My focus is Lincolns. Always has been. It stands to reason that I got excited when I saw the long-standing Memorial reverse coming to an end and was looking forward to adding these new coins to my collection.   Forget it!   Even Memorials are selling at exorbitant prices.   I challenge anyone to look over the census of the 1930's Lincolns and compare quality and rarity and price to the modern 09 and Shield coins

Hello Everyone

Long time no chat I hope everyone is doing well. My car decided that it needed some attention, so it figured it would suck some money out of my wallet.       Things are back to normal, so I picked up a few coins on Friday. My 1881 S Morgan Dollar came in yesterday and hopefully I will have a couple of Silver Commemoratives and a 2014 Sacagawea in the mailbox when I get home. I have missed adding acquisitions to my set, but look forward to getting back up to speed. There is so much t

Does the smell still make it a rose?

A rose is a rose is a rose. Right? Not so sure. I love doubled die coins. I love having them in my registry set. the 1972 DDO has been eluding me for a while so I decided to do a little research on the 72 Doubled die, or should that be dies. There are at least 8 that are recognized and probably countless more minor ones that no one pays attention to. To most the 72 FS 101 is THE coin.   My research took me to the registry points listing in the NGC archives and low and behold, the FS 103 RD

Never Thought I Could Upgrade This Issue

The 1945-S Walking Liberty Half was always one I presumed that I would never own an MS67. I'm going to keep this journal short- at least that is my intent as usual. I won't go into the convoluted search for one coin that led me to browsing the inventory of a certain dealer who had what I was looking for but not within my means at this time.       Consequently, I saw this attractively detailed, crusty and unique looking 1945-S Walker Half in MS67. The coin was priced at more than I have ev

My first 100% Complete Registry Set!!

Congratulating a major milestone Hello all,   I just wanted to share with everyone that I completed my first 100% Completion Registry Set today, my Ottoman Empire Nickel 20 Paras. While I still technically need one non-competitive issue ( which is so rare I may never get an opportunity to buy one, but if I did I would pounce on it!!) I have all of the issues which are scored and one of the non-competitives. This set has been a labor of love, and has been in the making as a collection sinc

Another coin titler ?

Maybe, just maybe... Maybe, just maybe, we can look deeper and find a hidden meaning and lesson's learned in Mr Decker's posts       So, with apologies to Hercule Poirot......       First Mr. Decker, I forgot to thank you regarding your previous 1804 Dollar post. You were right, I traveled to local coin shops in NJ, and then Pa. and NY while fly fishing. I asked the shop owners if they had any Silver Dollars dated 1804 that they would be willing to trade.       I've been watchin

Just One Bid

I suppose I should have known this was going to happen. I was recently watching a business strike Lincoln Birth & Childhood 2009 MS68 on auction. Actually, I was doing more than watching it. I was checking it every 30 minutes for 4 days.   I have all the Satin varieties in MS69 and the business types in MS67. I was tied in 4th place in the Life of Lincolns set here on NGC.   I got a little stir crazy and thought I needed to draw a line in the sand. Which I did. I lost the auction b
