REGISTRY AWARDS / CUSTOM SET DOMINANCE

Congratulations to all who won a Registry Award for 2015!   While my passion for this hobby lies in the aspect of "the hunt", it is always nice to receive recognition. So I commend NGC for issuing it's yearly awards and recognizing the many collectors in our hobby! How they review so many sets is beyond me.As always it was exciting waiting for the awards to be announced and then a pleasure reviewing the many amazing winning sets afterwards. There are some passionate collectors out there and a

Great Deal!

With it being the holiday season I scaled back my coin purchases, but I just realized that I had earned some eBay Bucks over the past few months. So I got online and started to search the marketplace. I found a nice white 1901 MS 64 Morgan listed for only $75.88 and with my $19.14 in eBay Bucks I paid only $56.74 for a $125.00 Morgan....that is 55% off value! Pretty amazing deal and a nice addition to my collection. Happy collecting. http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/wcm/CoinCustomSe

THIS WEEKS FINAL ADDITIONS FOR THE REGISTRY AWARDS

Last years registry awards were a thrill to me and being a winner was a real inspiration to step up my collecting and this year I did just that... in a serious way! I set out with the goal of winning best overall custom set. While I know this is a long shot, I looked long and far at coin shows, auctions and networking to acquire as many examples of global silver coinage from all eras, circulation and non circulating. My collection THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION at the time of last years dea

Numismatics Holiday! (Updated)

Ive been anticipating today for a few months! Today is the bi-annual Virginia Beach Coin Show presented by the Tidewater Coin Club at the Virginia Beach Covention Center. The show is always a quality event with local dealers and many others from DC, Maryland and North Carolina. I always manage to find something new or unique and I am hoping to add my 400th silver coin to my collection today with a couple acquisitions. Looking forward to good conversations about numismatics, perusing all the

Quest To Be The Best

My set The Global Silver Coin Collection is approaching the 400 coin mark (393) with many new additions and it has reached a couple milestones recently: it reached over 5,000 views and entered its third year of existence. I have also expanded on the sets information (which won most informative set last year) concerning silver in modern times.   Currently within this custom set there are now 9 #1 competitive registry sets and many more top tier competitive registry sets. A main focus of mine re

My Quest To Be Best Overall

Numismatics has really become a passion for me in the last 4 years and I found that with so many coins available you have to focus on one type of coin. For me it is silver, silver coinage from all over the globe!   Last year it was an honor and very exciting for me to win the NGC Registry Award for Most Informative Custom Set for my set THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION. After receiving the recognition in the registry, the badge for my set and the plaque in the mail I told myself I wanted more

70 Countries!

I was really excited to add coins from two different countries to my collection this week! My custom set THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION now contains 339 silver coins from 70 different countries! Its becoming more and more difficult to find coins from new countries, so whenever I am able to add a new country to my collection its rather exciting for me. I hope everyone is enjoying and having as much fun with the hobby as I am! Please give my set a view: http://coins.www.collectors-socie

Exciting April Additions!

I have made some great April additions to my custom registry set THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION. Within this custom set there are 11 #1 competitive sets now! I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase 28 new silver coins for the collection, but I was only able to add one new country....Bolivia (the collection contains coins from 67 different nations so adding a silver coin from a new nation isnt that frequent). My additions span 5 centuries from 1620s Polish Polkers to modern day bullion

Achieving My Goal and Exciting New Additions!

I am well on my way to achieving my year end goal for my custom set THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION. I set a goal to have 300 silver coins from 70 different countries by the end of 2015 and I am well on my way with 298 silver coins from 66 different countries! I also created a new image for the header of my set containing actual coins in my set. This week I added some fun new coins: 1. 2000 Liberia S$10 Air Force One Boeing 707 PF 69 Ultra Cameo, which had a low mintage of just 20,000 an

Flaws With Registry Points

I recently decided to try and add the 283 silver world coins I have in my custom set (THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION) to competitive sets so I could get registry points for them and see how I rank amongst other collectors. After going through each coin, I wasnt able to find a spot in any competitive set for 1/4 of my coins (73 silver coins). I did however end up ranking at #1595 but would be much higher if I could receive points for all of my coins. I really wish there was a way to receive

NGC Plaque and Dealing With Local Dealers

I was pleasantly surprised to receive a very nice NGC plaque this week in recognition of my NGC Award for 2014 (Most informative Custom Set). The registry, the registry awards and plaques of recognition just make the hobby all the more fun and I applaud NGC for providing us collectors these things for our hobby! I've put a lot of time into my custom set and have added about 50 new world silver coins to the set since the award (283 total world silver coins from 65 different countries). Today I

NGC REGISTRY AWARD FOR MY CUSTOM SET!

I was surprised and extremely honored to have received a 2014 NGC Registry Award! I've really enjoyed building this set and researching and fully documenting each coin that I add to the collection. I do have to say that receiving this award was actually more exciting than any coin acquisition I have ever made! [/url] To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. NEW NGC HOLDERS

I am liking the new NGC holders! I recently purchased a NGC MS 69 2015 Burundi Silver African Lion Series coin from Modern Coin Mart and noticed that NGC has new holders. The label field is much larger and there are two lips on each side of the label field to hold the label flat and smooth. I know personally I have several labels that are bunched up or uneven, hopefully this new holder will solve that issue. I also noticed that the hologram that usually dominates the entire bottom of the label

Registry Points for Custom Sets

? I was hoping someone could explain to me the reason why coins in Custom Sets receive no Registry Points? I have invested some serious time, money and effort into assembling a pretty impressive collection of silver coinage in my custom set yet I have no registry points or ranking to show for it!               http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/wcm/CoinCustomSetView.aspx?s=14077 To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 1 YEAR, 170 COINS, 2,000 VIEWS! I created my set GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION one year ago this month and have since had so much fun acquiring 170 NGC graded silver coins from around the globe and my set has had over 2.000 views by fellow collectors.       Looking forward to meeting more passionate collectors at shows around the country and online. Enjoy this amazing hobby and if you have time give my set a view (I welcome constructive criticism and any compliments).           [/

MY 100TH COIN!

My collection reached 100 this week! I recently surpassed the 100 coin mark in my GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION. I was hoping for some feedback, critique and even compliments on the set and it's presentation. I've seen so many great sets on here and I have tried to incorporate great ideas and features from many of them. Thanks in advance and have fun collecting! LOOKING FOR HELP/GUIDANCE/CRITIQUE WITH REGISTRY SET

Looking to pick your brains! Hello, I am new at the hobby and I created a Custom Registry set in August of 2013 titled THE GLOBAL SILVER COIN COLLECTION and I was hoping to get some guidance, help and critique from the forum users. I strive to eventually receive a registry award and I am looking for pointers on what more I could do to help my set reach that standard. Please go to my profile to view the set listed under CUSTOM SETS. I really appreciate your time and hope you all have fun
