US Mint

Someone recently posted the link to the Mintage figures for the Mint. Will you please share that link again? I believe it was towards the end of last month but I can't seem to put my fingers on that post. PS - As many of you know, my wife "stole" my "dealer" last night and left everyone a post that she (and I after reading it) thought was rather humorous. Well, I paid in full my ransom tonight with a $100 steak and lobster dinner just so I could get back to my habit, so to speak. I seriou

"Found in Rolls in Florida"

There are still decent coins to be had in circulation! Down thru the years I have searched rolls, mostly half dollars and have had pretty good luck. I had not been inside my bank since the middle of Feb. when I picked up my Monroe dollar rolls. But today close to closing time the "drive thru" was packed so I decided to go inside. I had no intention of asking if they any rolls of "halves" but my ever present "Numismonkey" was in his favorite perch on my sholder and tapped and whispered "

My MS70 2007 $5 Gold and the Delayed Adrenalin Rush

After reading the US Mint Final Figures.... Greetings again everyone! So I had some spare moments the other day and I decided to look up the US Mint's "FINAL FIGURES FOR AMERICAN EAGLE BULLION (in pieces) 1986-Current" And I found some amazing figures for gold for the 2007 production. There were only 140,016 pieces of 1 oz. gold produced. 47,002 pcs. of 1/2 oz, 34,004 pcs. of 1/4 oz. and, this is my personal favorite as I own this one. 190,010 pcs. of 1/10 oz gold. Now, this is bullio

WHATS REALLY GOING ON??

WHO MAKES NGC's DECISIONS? I BOUGHT A COIN A WHILE BACK OFF OF EBAY, A 1950 S/S(AS IT WAS STATED IN THE LISTING). I RECEIVED THE COIN AND RUSHED IT OFF TO NGC TO HAVE GRADED. I THINK IT LOOKS LIKE AN S/HORIZONTAL S, BUT I'M NO EXPERT. WHICH LEADS ME INTO MY PROBLEM, I GOT THE COIN BACK AS AN MS 65 WITH A LITTLE NOTE SAYING "NGC DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THIS VARIETY". WELL, I THOUGHT THEY WERE THE LEADERS IN THE GRADING AND CERTIFICATION FIELDS. I CALLED TO INQUIRE WHY IT WASN'T RECOGNIZED AND WAS TO

Finally Got One !!!

after 2+ years of trying I really enjoyed reading the "Confessions of a Coin Addict" series which ran last week. I was grinning ear to ear with many of them because I can truly relate...I mean, a day without a new coin is like a day without sunshine. I particulary liked the 3 stages outlined...although I feel one underlying theme was missed. The Obsession. I love the rush from winning an auction, I love the rush of finding something new for my set, I like watching my set jump a slot o

Silver Eagle Purchase

A VERY LUCKY PURCHASE! Since my 2006 20th Anniversay ASE set could not get the special designation...except the reverse proof...I have kept an eye out for the other two coins to complete the set. A couple weeks ago I got one coin, NGC graded MS-69, for $80. A couple days ago I saw an auction on Ebay for the last coin I needed to finish the collection. It was NGC graded PF-70. The bid was at $90 when I put my bid in with a max of $130. The value according to NumisMedia is $250. I really didn'

1994 and 1995 Silver Eagles

With the 1996 Silver Eagle I now have all the key dates...but the 1990 eludes me.... Greetings!! I have had an exciting morning as I have now acquired the 94 and 95 Silver Eagles ( paid 38.70 and 36.75 respectively) so now I am well on my way to completeing the set. I think it is mostly a mental block so far as the 94,95, and 96 goes. What I mean is we all KNOW these are low population coins, so we all kinda shudder and stall a bit when it comes to acquiring them. I feel lucky to have

Icelandic proof coins

Thanks NCS Well my two Icelandic proof coins pre 1963, A 1957 10 Aurar and my 1962 2 Kronur that NCS conserved and was sent to NGC for grading came back a Proof 66 cameo for the 1957 10 Aurar which made me very happy and the 1962 2 Kronur came back Proof 63 which is not bad considering that these coins were not made in the best quality. All in all very pleased with the results. And I'm hoping to find some more early proof coins from Iceland. When I started this set I never thought It would be

A Small Problem with my 1996 Silver Eagle.....

To my elation it arrived, BUT So after much anticipation my 1996 Silver Eagle arrived, and I RUSHED to my computer to add the coin into my registry...BUT it is STILL registered to someone else..... So, what happens next is Collectors Society emails that person to ask them to remove it from their registry, if they do not do so after 1 week, Collectors Society will automatically add the coin to my registry. No big deal...just will take a little time. I guess it's one of those moments in co

Gett'n jiggy with it

Finally starting to figuar this out Well, it's been a couple a months now. I been a paid member since December. I'm on my fourth submission. Once again, believing that I know how to "pre-grade" those coins. Probably, only to be brought back down to earth again to the reality of bodybags, and lower grades than anticipated. Coins that I thought would grade high come back lower, low ones come back higher than expected. I sit here with my head spinning. I've had huge disapointments with my first s

I'm not cured but....

I am tapering off. The last coin I bought was this 1901-S Half Eagle graded AU55. I normally would have bought it as an MS62, as it is a high mintage issue. But this one was just over melt value. Today my credit card bill came in. I'll be working on it for a couple of months now. Let's see if that cured me some more!

"Hats off to Neverman"

"Hit the Nail on the Head" The recent post by Neverman, whose name I chose to "capitalize" as he deserves it by summing up the "numismaniac" in myself and possibly many others. There is no way I could have said it better. As I read the post, I thought to myself, this gentleman does not know me. How could he know this about me. I even got up and looked out my window thinking that he may be out there with fancy gagetry from the CIA able to listen in and even read peoples minds. Then a ca

Let's Do the Time Warp.....AGAIN!!

Inspiration, anticipation, and aggravation. The Trinity of coin collecting? Well, it has been about a week since my latest inspired moment and, after winning a few coins, I am still awaiting their arrivals. During a rather bad day at work yesterday, my mind went to what I believe are the three major emotions of a numismatist. I'll list and explain. 1. Inspiration: That moment one sees the coin that one MUST have. That SET...OH SO WONDERFUL!! Credit limits and bank accounts be damned...I am

My latest submission: Huge Disappointment

Some times you win, some times you lose... I recently submitted a 1956 Proof Set. Felt that the Jefferson was quite nice and might grade reasonably well. I also felt that the Roosevelt was a nice piece also. The Washington and Franklin were mediocre, but I figured I'd get them graded as well so that I could complete my set. The Lincoln had some pitting so I didn't even bother with it; I had previously bought a PCGS-graded Lincoln to stand in its place. In short, I was hoping for a PF67 Cameo

Registry Correction

Problem fixed with the Ben Franklin "Scientist" I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a error in the registry with the score for the B.F. "Scientist". The PF70 CA and PF70 UC points were reversed. I sent an e-mail out to NGC and they fixed the error today. It might give a some of you a few extra points in your registry. Happy Collecting and Good Luck with grading! Jeffrey

Disappointed

After a month of waiting.. I got my "Skinny Chickens" today and I must say that I am somewhat disappointed in the whole Bald Eagle set. The reverse designs are great but the obverses leave something to be desired. Ugly or not though I'm still shipping them off to get graded, so wish me luck.

Its the end of the month and nothing yet.

Good to see some of you guys are getting your coins. It seems like it has been a long wait this time, as it is now the end of the month and still nothing. The coins I sent in just seem to setting there in the vault or wherever they keep them. I realize that it is on a first come first serve basis and probably others have sent in a boat load of stuff, and I think mine have sunk to the bottom of the ocean and have been swallowed by a whale. This group of coins I hope will add to my Buffalo Nicke

2nd Submission on the way Home!

Expensive Month! I checked on my latest submission to NGC and they are on the way back home. The 1999 Susan B. Proof and 1999 Yellowstone Comm both came back as PF-69 UC. I also submitted 20th Anniversary S.E. set. I knew the reverse proof would be the only one getting the special designation...it came back PF-69. The 2 other S.E. in the set came back as MS-70 and PF-70 UC. I am very happy with the outcome. Since I couldn't get my S.E. anniversary set designated, I went out and looked for

Excited to be into registered coins

Just sent my first shippment to get NGC 2/27/08 After spending my year end bonus (and some extra) I have become addicted to graded coins. I just sent off 14 coins to compleate my set of graded American Eagles. I am hoping that one or two get the PF70 grade (guess I will see in 3 weeks). One question I have, and if anyone is reading I would be intrested in the best way to display and store the coins? Dose leaving the coins out in the light degrade them?   Thanks and hope to keep you

Finally!!! I've got a subission in the mail going to NGC!

It's "only" 54 coins on four different invoices but I've finally done it! I keep reading about all of the submissions that everyone else has been making and it's been driving me crazy. The problem has been that I've been spending all of my money on coins and I haven't been putting enough aside to get any of them graded but now they are off in the mail. And in keeping with my true collecting style (the shotgun effect) there is a little bit of everything in this submission from Morgan and Peace
