Exceedingly Happy!

Here's a picture of the coin that sent my Memorial Lincoln set to #13. The NGC coin pop for this coin is 23 in MS68 with only 3 in MS69 (good luck on finding one of those). What a great coin it is. It arrived in the mail today from one of the best ebay sellers out there, Telecoin. Received this coin in only 3 days, counting the day the auction ended and I paid!

GOLD RUSH

I finally did it! I actually won my first gold auction tonight. Hugh for me. My quest started a week ago by placing a single high bid for a 1992 1/10th $5 gold eagle. Within the first twelve hours of my initial bid, one person bid 3 times to raise the bid to almost half of what my max was. I thought to myself, "There is no way I am going to win this coin." Then the wait began. I waited and watched until day 5 of the auction rolled along. Another person bid twice to up my bid to about t

AND, the 2008 W's will be out very soon...... So, after a day of turmoil at work, and HOPING for a nice surprise when I finally arrived at home, I came across a package from UPS sitting on my doorstep addressed to me. I looked closer as I was fumbling with my work tool backpack, my GPS and trying to find the correct key to open the door, and saw the sender was NGC. I FINALLY got into the house ( gravity can be an enemy as it pulls the tool backpack off of my shoulder at the damndest times

Cracked the 100,000 registry points mark

Cracked the 100,000 registry points mark I just entered my 2008 Presidential dollar proofs, and am now above 100,000 registry points. Not bad since I only started collecting in September of 2007. Granted I have mostly modern coins, but I collect what I like. I am amazed by the distance between the #1 and #2 total registry points. #1 has over 4.3 million points, and #2 has only 1.1 million points. It seems that 'Gardner' is in a league of his own.

To: Bully Re: "In God We Trust"

Why not capitalize the word? Maybe it's because I'm a WASP; maybe it's because I go to the most conservative university in the nation, a school that values tradition above just about everything else, but I think that some things deserve to be continued and protected. The line "In God We Trust" first appeared on our coinage over 140 years ago and if I recall correctly the law that authorized it was one of the last laws signed by Abraham Lincoln. About 40 years later T. Roosevelt felt much the

Skinny Chicken Story

local soap opera of eagles For those who have bought or love the "skinny cheickens"..this one's for you. The Eagle family that is shown on the new coins live in the Washington DC area--believe it or not there are lotsa bald eagles here.   Construction workers building the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge that spans from Maryland to Virginia on the Capital Beltway first noticed them. The 2 adult birds..nicknamed George and Martha...lived on Rosalie Island on the Maryland side of the river.

I love those so-called "Skinny Chickens"

They are ENDEARING Ok, I am going to go out on a limb, and so against the grain of the group feeling and admit that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Bald Eagle half dollar coins. As soon as the brochure arrived, I couldn't wait for the day they went on sale for pre-order. I wanted them. WHY? Which ones caught my eye? It was the half dollar that caught my attention immediately! Personally, of all three coins, I find the half dollar with these so-called "skinny chickens" the most endearing. Ce

TO: VUMC409's, RE: In "god" we trust on Presidential $

It's true... I am not sure if it was because of activists, lobbying of Congressional representatives, whether there were petitions, or whether Congress just took it upon themselves. I honestly don't recall reading the "official" motivation behind the change. I do recall, however, reading that it had something to do with a complaint by some that the coins, since the "In god we trust" motto" was on the edge of the coin seemed "godless" to "some" people. This was ESPECIALLY true when there were

2009 change to the Prez $?

News to me... Just sitting here watching Home Shopping Network (HSN) and the Coin Collecting hour. Yes, I know it is 3:30 AM CST but what else is a coin-aholic to do? At least I haven't purchased anything yet, even though the first 9 years of uncirculated state quarters (P, D and gold plated) for $199.95 was awfully tempting. The hosts were discussing (trying to sell) the Prez dollars and it was mentioned that for 2009 forward the words IN GOD WE TRUST were to be moved from the edge of the

That's a great coin VUMC409! I couldn't help but feel a little happy when I read VUMC409's post but for my own reasons. Just a few hours ago I bought 3 lincoln cents off of telecoin and I was really hoping that this was going to be a good seller. 2 of the coins are for a collection I'm starting to help my step-father build (See the sets in my registry labeled "Wright Family Collection") and 1 coin is the first addition my humble lincoln cents set has gotten in about 6 months (The 1982 Lg Dt

"Skinny Chicken"

Received mine yesterday. The clad MS 50c piece that is. I guess I can see why most agree the baby eagles look like skinny chickens, but the Challenger eagle on the reverse is quite stunning in my opinion, especially with Old Glory whisping in the background. As for the silver dollar and gold $5 dollar, I haven't had the opportunity to have them in hand yet, but I don't really see the "skinny chicken" on those. Ok, maybe on one side of the $5 gold coin, but nothing else. Anyway, received

I have SO been neglecting my coins!

...say it like a teenager... Not proud of it, but one hobby at a time. I got stuck on comics (Lady Death & Monster Madness) for the time being, and when I retire out of the Air Force, and buy my first house (I'll be 45 then) I'll be all over my coins again. My darling wife (remember the 1971 PF69Deep Cam half I bought?) said that she hopes we can get a house that will have enough room for me to put all my stuff (Military, coins, comics) in. I took it as a nice gesture at first, but now

MS67 James Monroe's arrived

I entered them in my collection today My MS67 James Monroe's Arrived today, it took a while they came from Fairbanks Alaska. Being PCGS coins, the points won't show up till tomorrow, but that's OK. We are still recovering form a weekend snow storm I live in north east Ohio, we had around 24" of snow. I missed my weekly visit to the coin shop not because I was snowed in but because they were not open, I actually went up there. Nothing was plowed I couldn't get in to the Bank parking lot or any

Thanks for all the help on my photo's!

No way I could have done this without you all and my "kid" Many thanks to all of you for the tips in getting my pics.down to the right size. The task fell to my daughter who did a mass edit/resize via "photo shop". It seems as if the web site should offer some kind of automatic file converter to avoid this hassle. I am no expert by any means but from what I understand most all digital cameras are unable to take photos that small even with the multitude of settings they are equipped with

My Very First Photo on The "Registry"

This Computer "Dummy" is slowly learning! Things have been quiet around here as of late but busy with getting my taxes ready and "slamming" every auction that comes near me. I have given up the idea that I can refrain from the "Chronic" addiction that haunts my mind, body and soul. The only thing that has slowed me down is having my beautiful 23 year old first year law student home from "Gator Land" in Gainsville Fl. She and I have spent the better part of the early evening taking photo

Well, I have been on a real rollercoaster lately with my new job where I feel like I am really working too hard, but I don't feel the passion for being a heating and air conditioning technician anymore. When I first started my career 13 years ago, I was going to school to learn the trade, I was in an apprenticeship as well, where every move was under scrutiny of a journeyman, and I thrived and learned well. Iceland (1940) The Copenhagen and London Mint's

1940 OR BUST Coins from Iceland are not as easy to find in mint state as you may think for the year of 1940. The denominations of 1 Eyrir, 2 Aurar, 10 Aurar and the 25 Aurar are not as hard as the 5 Aurar, and the 1 Krona and 2 Kronur. Not that the lower denominations are easy. The 2 Aurar has two mintage's one at the Copenhagen mint (then became nazi occupied)Copenhagen mint of 257,280 and then the London mint at 1 million coins for the 1940 2 Aurar. The most difficult of this year is the 5
