SILVER EAGLES!

They get into your blood. I can't believe that I've had this Eagle since Mar 2004, and haven't added it to my sets until now. I'm going thru my inventory and sure I'll find more. How about that Jackson, his High Seas Signature set is amazing! He just keeps showing us how much he enjoys collecting.

Decisions, decisions, and more decisions.

More time than money...guess it could be worse! For those of you who have checked my registry you know that I am really into geneology (family history). I am trying to complete mint sets for my ancestors, those I knew and those who had left this life before I arrived. It is astounding to me how I can hold a coin from lets say 1898 and visions of my maternal grandfather pop into my head with so many fond memories. This is why I collect coins, (obviously I am not much of an investor), I value

Discovered a Useful Registry "Glitch"

hope they don't fix it I spent the day messing around with my High Seas Signature Set. Recently I have been so focused on my Walker Short Set since it is only 2 coins from completion ( and a few upgrades) that I have not been spending the time I usually do hunting/tracking sailing ship themed coins. Well I spent most of the day "fixing" my signature set. I finally finished the task of re-imaging all of the coins...then I got the wild idea to "jazz up" the set. I have inserted in every coin p

The missing link to a complete silver eagle collection - The 1995-W

Oooh! I came so close once, to complete my SAE collection, but could I afford the 1995_W? Neverman has aspirations that I once held. I came close, very close! But I just wasn't able to collect the 1995-W. Wish I was an avid an astute collector back in 1995, but I didn't even know of the existence of the beautiful Silver Eagles back then. Even if I did, I would not have had the resources to grab a 10th anniversary special set which included 4 Gold Proof Eagles and 1 Proof Silver Eagle. Wit

Presidential Dollars PCGS vs NGC

I had to get the PCGS every time I know that this topic comes up every so often. When buying graded Presidential Dollars I end up getting PCGS every time. I have found that they are less expensive and better looking coins with out fail. When the George Washington coin came out I went with NGC and also John Adams, I wasn't even looking at the PCGS coins at that time. I don't like their holder among other things. Then I met a man that was dealing in PCGS coins we got to talking and he offered me

My Feelings have CHANGED!!

Completing the Silver Eagle set IS an attainable goal!! Greetings!! I sit here on a stand-by for work today and I decided to check my set and my un-graded silver eagles to see if I can financially afford to complete my silver eagle bullion set in the next 2 years....and YEAH...I definately CAN!! Being inspired by the fact that I can and really SHOULD strive to complete the set, I just bought 2 more coins. A 91 and 92 pre-graded MS69, and I put a bid out on a 90 MS 69. I have 2000-2

Too Good To Be True !!!

there are still boxes of coins in old ladies attics... I have been collecting for almost 30 years...with some down time for many years in the middle...I've now been seriously collecting again for almost 10 years. Most of my friends and acquaintances know that I collect coins. Word gets around---and about once a month (at least) someone says to me "I have some old coins that ( insert: grandma, Aunt, father etc etc ) left to me--will you take a look?" I usually ask a few feeler questions--th

Thoughts of a coin collector

I'm a neophyte looking for a place to call home or a set or sets to call home. I thought I would throw down some notes on what I hope to accomplish. Keep my current subscriptions with the US Mint. These include: Gold Buffalo's, Yearly Silver Proof Set, Yearly clad proof set, Yearly Mint set, AE unc's, AE Proofs. The yearly proof/mint sets include the presidents, Kennedy half, GW qtr, Roos dime, Jeff nickel, Lincoln penny oh and the 5 state quarters. I'm currently increasing my gold inventory

Re: Platinum price/shortage

I am enjoying it... Well, a couple of things: 1. It makes me VERY glad that a few weeks ago (maybe a month), I was perusing the Mint's web site, and found a "leftover" 1oz Platinum Proof 2007 coin for $1,740.95 I believe. I grabbed it. In retrospect, I wish I bought more than one. It hasn't arrived, but I have my order confirmation, so...I am hoping they don't get ornery and try canceling my order. Either a couple days or maybe a week after I placed my order, the Mint increased the pri

First Spouse coins crucified on the "Cross of Gold."

I've never understood this decision. Ever since I heard about the series I've never understood WHY the first spouse coins were done in gold. 1) The presidents are on "golden" dollars so making silver spouses makes perfect sense (to me). Making the spouses in gold was a money (greed) driven decision that has priced out a lot of people. 2) by making them in gold the mintage limit was set lower and many would be collectors found that there simply aren't enought to go around at times. Yes, there a

UP $90.00 and climing!! The mint has put the price of the Elizabeth Monroe coins on the website - $619.95 for the proof and $599.95 for the UNC. - up another $90.00 from the Dolly Madison and nearly $200.00 from the original three. Talk about you high maintenance spouse!! Wish the mint would consider making them in silver.

Platinum shortage/price

Mint Gold and Platinum sales If you have been watching the price of gold and platinum these days, then you have noticed that you can not buy any platinum coins (except 1/10 ounce) from the mint. If they continue to not offer platinum coins for 2007, this could make 2007 year the lowest minted numbers for platinum. Also, for some of us that bought the 10th Anniversary Platinum set, the mint may not make the max limit of 30,000 sets. What would that do to the current sets selling on eBay and at

NGC Surprise

Surprising quick turnaround!!! Checked the status of some invoices that I had sent in to NGC. They all arrived on February 11. Of the 3 sent in (all 3 were Modern US, the cheapie grade), two were already sent back to me on February 19. Thats like 8 days or so, man that was QUICK. I thought I would check the grades. One invoice was 2008 Clad Quarters, of the 20 I sent in 16 got PF70UC and the other 3 were 69's and one was a 68UC. WOW GREAT (I still need a Hawaii 70UC). I then checked the sec

Proof Set Suprise

Most Small Block 4 Coin Proof Sets Grade PF 67 I recently submitted a 1999S 4 coin Silver Proof Set which I was able to obtain for $290. Upon receipt of set I checked out the four Silver Proof coins and was suprised to find that the set contained a "Close AM" Lincoln Cent. This morning I received the Grades on the four, three graded PF 69 Ultra Cameo and the Dime graded PF 68 Cameo. These were the Highest grades I ever saw for a "Mint Assembled" Set. Wary of the local coin shop

Saw something that made me pause I went into the local coin shop last weekend to get some silver pieces (got a 08 ASE and a seventy something Mexican 720 silver piece, both raw, not intending on sending for grading) and I saw something that kinda bothered me. One of the workers was cleaning some coins using nail polish remover. Now, I know that using the main chemical in nail polish remover helps get rid of the marks from the PVC flips, but the owner of the shop told him not to do it while cus

1809/6 Classic Head Half Cent

Guess the grade Recently acquired this very nice 1809/6 half cent from Pinnacle Rarities. These are hard to come by in high grade. Guess the grade and have a great day. One question I would like to pose is, Are there good coin/note buys now that the economy has slowed with money being tight?
