One Step Closer

only 3 slots until completion I'll keep this short because it's late and I'm tired but I wanted to keep track of my set progress in my journal. I just got my latest Walker for my short set in the mail today. It's the 1945-D---sometimes it takes a month or more between additions to this set because of the strike quality I'm looking for but this coin comes at only 10 days since my last addition to the set. In just the 10 days s

Don't cry Bruce and the rest..

Listen to this and then realize how lucky you are talked to ANACS today..checking on a dozen Canadian half dollars I had recieved back from NGC as having been cleaned...and my jaw hit the floor when I was told that they were being returned as "not genuine"..supposely that opinion held by three different graders....now I realize that I have only thirty or so years as a collector, and most of that with Canadian's, and these were purchased from another dealer with even more experience, and a reput

When it rains, it pours!

Bid on and won a New Orleans minted Half Eagle! I really did not want to spend the money now but I am, after all, a Numis-addict. I have now been collecting half eagles for close to 3 years. I have found that the more common date and mint half eagles are mostly P and S. There are usually a number of CC, C and D minted half eagles available from different sellers but premium priced. And rarely, as I have only been able bid on this 1844-O since I started this set, are O minted half eagles offere

Re: New Mint Product? They don't even know for sure

It's only a mint state coin BULLY, If you look close at the mint picture you attached to your entry, check out the "specifications" it shows for condition(Bullion) not (Proof) so it's a mint state coin only. I don't know if you read my journal entry on 2/4/08 (What is the USMINT Thinking) Check it out and I hope that it's helpful for you. Happy Collecting!

First Order back from NGC

George Washington missing edge lettering coin graded MS64 My first coins sent to NGC were a total success. I am very pleased with the service. My $1 George Washinton coin graded MS64. I've not heard of a similar coin grading higher. Well, I am hooked on coin collecting. It is just like waiting on Christmas while waiting to get coins back from NGC. I had 10 coins graded. Three gold coins six silver and the one error coin. The gold coins all graded PF70, the Silver graded 1 MS70,3 PF70, and 2 PF

GOLD!!!

Newest addition ..My wife said "it's so small"! I said, "I know, but size dosen't matter, it's the quality". What is it they say, Gold is where find it. ..I can't focus in on one series, so I have to obtain what I can afford.

The 2008 Proof Presidential Set

I'll be ordering that one soon... Greetings everyone!! I hope you all have had or are having a great weekend. I just got back from seeing U2 3D in IMAX and I am feeling very uplifted and inspired. I was taking inventory of my coins today and realized that I am getting a bit overwhelmed by the quantity and scope of everything I'd like to collect...big ideas and skinny bank accounts make for lots of wishes and no action!! I have so many coins I'd like to send off to NGC right now tha

New Mint Product? They don't even know for sure

And the Mint really DOES have some NOT SO BRIGHT people working the phones! Now, I had a bad experience recently buying some supplies from a "mint named" place, and the phone reps clearly had never collected coins before, nor used any of the supplies, and even told me so. Today though, after reading some posts here on the boards about the US Mint being unable to fulfill orders for several weeks due to "severe weather" in the area of their warehouse, I visited their web site to see for myself

I wish I was as lucky as some of you

I feel like that guy with the raincloud who follows him around... 1st, the Mint sent my Platinum Eagle set a week earlier than they were supposed to, so I opened it innocently without even thinking about it - UGH! After all, it wasn't even supposed to be shipped until New Years' Eve, so why should I think twice about opening a package on 12/24? I returned it to the Mint, and was lucky enough to get a replacement set. I promptly submitted it, along with other coins (in the same box anyway)

Someday, just wait

How long do I wait? I read about how busy NGC is and I wonder what ever happened to my submission. My coins were received by NGC on 12/21/07. At that time a turnaround was about 21 days for an economy submission. Mine finally made it to "scheduled for grading" last Thurday afternoon and haven't moved since. I think all those 2008 ASE "Early Releases" got moved in front of mine. No such thing as first in, first out. I'm afraid to send an E-mail and ask what's going on. I'd get my coins all body

Some More..........

The Indians are after the Buffalo Well I have a new batch of coins in the NGC bread basket. This time a couple of Indian Head Pennies and about six Buffalo Nickels. I really like the Buffalo Nickels and these will probably go right into my registry collection. I am not so sure about the Indians, at least one of them should be a great addition. I have been buying most of the Buffalos on eBay but it is difficult on a limited budget as I am sure most of us deal with that limitation. There is alwa

Still no closer...

Well, maybe a little I had such high hopes, my submission showed up in Quality Control on Tuesday, several posts about how happy people were theirs were moving quickly through the system. Now it's Friday afternoon, with much anticipation I log on and get ready to view the grades. But alas, still in Quality Control. I guess they are doing a really good job.

re: Excessive Compulsive Behavior

You're not a coin-aholic, JimL. You're a Numismatist. Same thing, I know. But Numismatist has a more socially acceptable, intellectual ring to it, wouldn't you agree? And never mind those US Mint commercials that have us starting 4-alarm fires with our barbecue grills while looking at pennies. Those things never happen. Right, Group?? I, for one, can start a fire with my barbecue grill without a coin in sight... Ask my Wife.

U.S. MINT DELIVERS!

Received yesterday 7 Feb 2008! ..My 2008 Proof (Clad) Statehood Quarter set arrived yesterday from the Mint. As a whole, I'm very impressed with this group more than any of the others. Now I'll have to put them in line to send to NGC for grading! ..The Mint is doing a great job when you think of all the groups and people telling them what to do. Can you think of any great accopmlishment that a Commimittee as done? All our past coins were designed by one or two people.

I'll Take Mine in Silver Eagles, Please.....

Let's forget about the "rebate check"...just send coins.... Well, lately I have been working excessive amounts of hours ( again) and things have been a little un-settled, but I have been following the "stimulus package" that the politicians want to send us in the news. A 1200 dollar check? a 300 dollar check? let's just save the postage and send me a roll of silver eagles!! Or a 50 dollar gold eagle would do nicely, too. Pre-graded an MS 70 would REALLY do the trick.   That would be

NGC does quality work

My Coins graded MS70 and PF70. I can't explain how happy I am with the QUALITY work done at NGC. My first ever order was received by NGC Jan 18 (10 coins) and half of them were finished with the grading process with MS70 and PF70 grades by Feb 7. The folks at NGC do a great job. I'm not concerned about time,I just want QUALITY!

Excessive Compulsive Behavior

Hi my name is JimL4004 and I am a coin-aholic I have been this way for as long as I can remember and it is getting worse or better depending whose point of view you agree with. I have always had some type of compulsive behavior to deal with, it seems to run in streaks, For quite a few years I was an avid fisherman going fishing every weekend, and before and after work, At a different time it was bowling I bowled on as many as three different leagues, I even got my wife to bowl in a mixed doubl

I'm Feeling a Little Lost

With my Peace dollar collection finished ( not really. I need upgrades) I am having trouble focusing on something else. Just because I haven't added a coin recently I just had to go after something and decided on a ASE I found a 1989 NGC MS69 to bid on cranked up my old EBay countdown and won it with a pretty low bid at the last second. I added it to my collection the points awarded were low but it was something. I still have a submission to send in the same one I wrote about in my last journa
