Thank you

thanking for responses Thank you to all that responded about the local coin shop. I bought what I did that day because I wanted bullion silver, and aside from some Mint or Proof sets, I won't be buying coins from there. Supplies, maybe. But not raw coins.

Oops! I did it again....

I'll tell ya. Just put me in a rubber room..... Took a submission to the Post Office last Thursday to mail out. I had to get something out of the box, and as I opened it, one of the rubber bands that I was using to hold everything in place shifted over and stuff spread out all over the place. I gathered it all up and put the package back together and mail it. Well, yesterday I get a call from the Receiving Department at NGC. It seems that one of my coins is missing. Aiyee!!!! At least it was

Peace of my heart

I just upgraded Today I upgraded my 1924p Peace Dollar from MS63 to a MS65. This will be the first MS65 Peace Dollar in my set. I chose the 1924 because I only had it in 63. I have 1922p and 1923p in MS64 and will be upgrading them to MS65 also over the next two months. That will boost my score over 600 points. I will be getting all three from the same place. When I sell the two 64's and the 63 I will recoup some of the cost. Hopeful by this time next week I will have added it to my registry s

My Silver Eagle Deadline

May 27th, 2008 On May 27th it will have been 1 year since I started building my silver eagle set. I hope to have my set complete (up to date) by that time. There's no particular reason for it, I just think it would be neat to have it done in a year. The silver eagles aren't a hard set to collect in MS69 if you have the capital to devote to it. When it's "complete" I won't be done working on it though. I'll have to send a few coins in for review and I'll be replacing some, some might be upgrade

Your Not gonna Believe This// I'm Completly Astonished!!

Concerning The Tornadoes and the Us Mints Warehouse! So I Finally have been fed up with the month wait on my Skinny Chickens. I got through to a supervisor after arguing with about 2 customers reps about the status of my order and many lies about them being shipped and not being shipped. I had gotten through to the Supervisor whom finally Admitted that the MANY of there coins in the Warehouse Were damaged and some were even swept away from the building and unaccounted for!!!!!!! So everythin

My Latest Acquisition!!

1986 MS69 Silver Eagle Uncirc. I have been looking for a good deal on this coin for a long time, finally found one for 28 dollars. It will be shipped tomorrow, and hopefully I can put this in my registry by Saturday or Sunday. And, is it NOT tempting to buy more 2007 W's from the mint as they are still $21.95? If not just for the intrinsic value? I have been thinking about it..... Have a good night, thanks again for reading!!

PANDA EXPRESS

Off to see the graders. ..Last Saturday I sent five Panda's off to the wonderful world of NGC for grading. I used the five coupons that I received from NGC for being an upstanding member of the Society (paid in full)! ..My oldest granddaughter is going to have my first great grandchild (a girl) in May 2008. Thinking of a gift I could give her, I decided on a coin. A PANDA coin! ..My youngest granddaughter is going to be one in April, besides adding a coin to her collection, I'm going to g

Adding Bald Eagle Commemoratives to your Registry

Right now, you can't do it, but I've been told that will be changing shortly. I just got a grade back for a Bald Eagle Commemorative Dollar, aka Skinny Chicken, aka Rubber Chicken, etc, etc. I went to add it into my Registry and discovered that there was no home for it anywhere. Not surprising. It is a brand new release. Anyway, I called NGC this morning and spoke with a very nice lady, Lisa was her name I believe, who told me that she would try to get Bald Eagle Commemoratives added to the

My Proof Silver Eagles Are Complete Except...

"I will need to sell my "first born" to get that '95-W" Today I rushed home trying to beat the postman thinking my parcel from NGC would arrive and sure enough I was home less than fifteen minutes when the doorbell rang. I could not get to the kitchen fast enough where the "implements of destruction" are stored. I grabbed a knife and began delicate surgery on that beautiful rectangular box with the "heavy duty" tape covered with red seals. Then it was off to the computer to log everything in t

I Can See Clearly Now!

I've finally got pictures I was always capable of taking reasonable pictures of my coins. However, being able to upload them onto the NGC site has been a big challange due to the 120k requirements for the photo. Finally though, I've made a break through. To get them to be the right size to put on my registry. I had to place them onto my desktop, from my kodak easyshare. then, I had to right click and "open with" paint. After that, I had to go to "stretch and skew" off of the edit in paint. I s

We do not have a monopoly on "Liberty"

Nor do we have a monopoly on "The United States" Lady Liberty is featured on the coins of several countries. The first one we naturally think of is the United States...with the Statue of Liberty being foremost in our minds. The new Presidential Dollars, which all feature this grand Lady on the reverse, is a symbol of the things we hold dear and true. But where did this grand Lady come from? France! As a gift celebrating our independence. France has had her own version of Liberty for many year

So Many Choices, But Only One Passion.

This is why I collect and really LOVE Silver Eagles. Greetings everyone!! I have been battling a nasty flu-like virus that has been circulating throughout SLC and has found it's way into my lungs. And being the "new guy" at my new job, it has been impossible to take days off, though I did leave about 30 minutes early on Thursday with a 103 degree F fever. It has been a miserable 4 or 5 days. But, in between my high fever, delirium, effects from night-time and day-time cold "medicines" I

What a coin show!

Great while it lasted.... I'm writing from my hotel room in Long Beach, CA., as my wife and I wonder how 3 days can pass so quickly. This show is a well managed and a rather large affair that we only used to fantasize about attending through the pages of Coin World or Numismatic News. We were successful at picking up a few very nice coins for the type sets and I even entered them into the registry from here. Also went to the Heritage auction and saw some major coins cross the block. Can'

First Time Submission

Very Happy! I have been collecting coins since 1988 when I bought a proof set to celebrate the birth of my first daughter. My collection has been growing ever since with silver eagles, modern commemoratives, and annual proof sets. I have never really thought about having them graded or even thinking of the value of the coins in my collection until a couple months ago. I made my puchases not because of their value but because of the beauty of the proof coins, artwork, and the moments in our his

92 coins in the 09 Mint set?

Okay, I plan to put together a set for 08 in honor of my new grand child due in June. But this will be my last modern set. 4 new designs for the penny from both mints 1 nickel both mints 1 dime both mints 6 quarters both mints 1 half both mints 5 dollars both mints, and if you count them like they do at PCGS you have the A and B sides of the edge incusion. Lets get the calculator out .... mmmmmm That is 36 SMS coins and 36 Business strikes if you don't count the A and B sides. If

To: THUDDOME, RE: Bald Eagle Sets

What NGC will and WON'T do with these sets. NGC Responded to this in the "ASK NGC" Message Board (and elsewhere) and their answer has been consistent, no special certification for the 2008 Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins (or the corresponding limited edition sets) http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2128484&page=1#Post2128484 However, that doesn't preclude you (or me, or any of us) from submitting coins to NGC and getting coins done in a Multi

I've had my NGC Surprises too

Some good, some bad. Some of my coins turn out surprisingly well, some are being turned around VERY quickly, some are just grading "average" or not too exciting. Here's where the fun comes in: Like many of you probably do, I submit multiple invoices to NGC in one box, to save shipping on the way there. When using the online form, I select that I want invoices returned to me when they're all completed, so that I save money on return shipping and insurance. Despite a thread on "Ask NGC

Dealers?

I have my doubts. I have to wonder about how great a dealer you had who is unable to sell a coin which: 1. Starts out as a MAXIMUM MINTAGE of 20,000 (Ok, let's be generous and say 40,000 -- 20,000 each Mint State and Proof). 2. Is graded by PCGS as MS69 (forgive me if you said yours was Proof 69). In "the trade," coins graded by either PCGS or NGC are considered easily moved commodities. 3. And which is .9999 Fine gold - and a full HALF OUNCE OF GOLD at that! 4. Not to mention tha

Bald Eagle Set

What is the NGC deal, if we have the set, to get the Variety label for the set? Mint is all over the place, W,P,S from what I saw in the pictures. The sets are supposed to be limited to 25,000 but they are selling the individual coins up to 100,000 and some 750,000. Is this going to be another mint sealed box deal?

"$ 5 1907 Liberty Gold Coin MIA"

Has this ever happened to you? 'cause I'm kicking myself in the butt over it. I know everyone is going to think, Is this guy stupid or what? I was into the "Crack Out" thing in late 2006 and sent more than half dozen gold coins into NGC that had been purchased during the previous six months. Along with these there were also a couple of gold $5 Libertys that I wanted crossed over from old Anac holders to NGC holders. I remember the day the coins came back because I was elated to find that some

What do coin dealers and scrap metal dealers have in common

copper, tin, brass Today I went to the local coin shop with 2 coins to see what amount of cash I could get for them. One coin was a 2008 W Dolly Madison mint state $10 gold coin graded PCGS 69 and the other coin was a 1988 W Olympic gold $5 gold proof coin PCGS 69. Wow what a surprise for me. The local coin shop is nothing more than scrap metal dealer. I was offered less than melt for the coins by about 20%. The dealer stated that he can not sell these coins and that he cracks them out of the
