FRESH FROM NGC

IF ONLY I COULD FIND A 1933 25 AURAR IN UNC On July 29Th I seen the results of my submission of a Icelandic 1925 25 Aurar and was happy to see that my coin was given a MS-64 grade, But was hoping for a 65. Its more about the coin then the grade when it comes to rarity, This is the only one I have come across in the 6+ years I have been assembling this set of Kingdom Era coins from Iceland. So how can I complain about a single point....NOT, As my teenage daughter would put it. Now if only I can

"MY TWO CENTS"

about THE NEW COLLECTORS SOCIETY! First of all I'm not impressed or Happy! The first thing I like to do, was check the Registry and see who was doing what. I could see if I wanted to contact someone! When I would add some coins, I would be at or near the top. Today I added 4 coins and they are somewhere on page 2? I don't know what I'm doing wrong but that's my first complaint! I just have to say something

eBay, sales tax, Collectors Soc. I havn't added a journal in quite sometime, havn't even read ant up until tonight. I must say I feel all of your pain. I have over 4,000 toal feed backs on eBay and have been selling for some time and got my first 2 neg's this year both on coins that cost less than $10 one becuase the person paid more than the coin was worth, the bidding started at 99 cents how was this my fault. The other one said the coin he got was not the one in the picture. He was wrong, a

A Few New Commemoratives!

Only one new purchase though. Hi everybody, Just wanted to share the few coins that I have added to may collection. 2005 Marines MS 70 2010 Boy Scouts PF 70UC & MS 70 They Boys Scouts I got from the Mint some time back and had them recently graded by NGC. It was a lightning fast turnaround time with that submission. From the day I mailed the coins and had them back in hand was under 3 weeks...AWESOME!! I haven't been looking to purchase anything in the last few weeks. Then I deci

WHAT CAN AN EBAY SELLER DO IN THIS CASE?

This has to be the single hardest thing I've had to swallow Greetings Collectors, With the subject of selling having just been discussed of late, I wanted to share a "nightmare experience" I had a couple months ago. Actually after all the wasted emails to eBay's Trust and Safety department, I had told myself I was done wasting my time writing about the problems with this incident. But for the last time here goes: There are two things that bother me about eBay. One is that the buyer is alwa

Gewtting ready for a presenation at the World of Money in Boston

Trying to be interesting on estate planning for dealers and collectors is hard... Let's face it, what I will be talking a week from Saturday at the ANA Convention involves what is least interesting of any topic there: death and taxes. I am afraid that my talk will quickly lose people's attention either because 1) it is too abstract and they do not think it could apply to them, or 2) it is too much "in the weeds" and people get lost. I am using the example of what we did for John Kittredge t

Lost then Found

I am partial to deli style dill pickles I am partial to deli style dill pickles, you know, the huge ones? Fortunately there is a place in my town to get them in the big jars. These jars end up holding miscellaneous pocket change, unused Canadian and Mexican vacation money and in one jar a Iraqi note found blowing in the street in Tikrit, Iraq in 2003 the day Saddam was found. The ?coin jar collection? as we call it is supposed to be used for spending money on a trip or something like. I have

More Follow-up

More info just in As I am sure many of you are following my first post on this matter (Well This Is New) I contacted the NGC member who tried to register my coin. He did respond in a timely manner and what some of you surmised is in fact true. They purchased the coin on E-Bay from an NGC dealer and they used the cert number from the photo to go ahead and register the coin before they received it in hand. Of course that is when it came back to them that it is already registered to me. The s

POINTS, SETS & OWNERSHIP

I may have gone a wee bit far... as usual.. Greetings Collectors, I want to apologize for the close to "Outta Control" rant of late. We are all collectors here. We all take part in a hobby that personally I believe to be the most rewarding, in more ways than can be counted. I could never emphasize that enough. As in any endeavor there are ups and downs, hills and valleys and also good times and bad. Having said that, I think due to pressures away from here, led to my "going off". The events

RE: What can we do?

Agree and Disagree Although I agree with the vast majority of what W.K.F. states in his post there are two points in which I tend to disagree a little bit. The first lies in that NGC only adds points for a coin registered in one or more sets just once. So, your point total for all sets is not affected by having the same coin in more than one set at all. The second is that I have trouble seeing the problem with someone protecting themselves from theft as well. The seller of a coin has a right t

EBay, registry, journal, and roll searching

Some livid rants are bringing up good points. I'm finally realizing at home just how much of a packrat I've been, so I've dabbled in EBay selling to dredge the slough out of the house. So I'm getting a little perspective on where you folks with EBay problems are coming from. It's TIME-CONSUMING to sell things on EBay. Shooting, uploading and editing photos can be a slog. For those running big stores, I can see the temptation to grab "stock" photos. On the next topic, the registry contes

WHAT CAN NGC OR WE DO TO STOP THIS!

IT'S "WAY PAST" RIDICULOUS, Actually it's really starting to me off. Greetings, I have not started this post with the usual "greeting" as I am not sure a post to "Collectors" is proper anymore. Sure, the vast majority of us are collectors but there are so many other persons here who I would not classify as such. Without going into detail, I have now come to the conclusion that we have preachers, pundits, thieves, political "want a be's" (I stand guilty as charged), ego maniacs, along with p

Follow-Up to This is New

Talked to Amy I decided to give Amy a call this afternoon to see if there was anything else I needed to do besides "reject" the request. She told me no and also stated that this kind of mistake happens "all the time". I have since contacted the individual who was trying to register my coin to see if they could shed some additional light on where they acquired the coin and was that in fact the exact number as displayed or was it a typo? EARLY 1920's HOLD SOME VERY HIGH $ COINS

A SUPERB ADDITION TO MY 1923 MINT SET... Greetings Collectors, I have somewhat recovered from a physical week helping others and had time to sit and read all of the postings of late. Always very interesting reading. A comment on "Moondoggy's post in that I think the person who was trying to list a coin in his/her set is one of those that "pads" their sets with coins they wished they owned & need to own but don't.(own) I have seen people rise quickly in the ranks and from past posts an

never happened before Just received an e-mail that another member here is trying to register one of my Kennedy's. Usually it is the other way around when you purchase a coin and the seller hasn't removed it (unregister it)from their set. Could they have entered a wrong number (I checked their collection and they are in need of this particular coin) ? Don't want to think somebody is trying something shady, but has anybody else had this happen to them ? Please let me know if you had ha

New World Currency

Where are we heading in America's currency? More and more Americans are afraid we're heading for a double-dip recession. President Obama says the way out of our economic slump is to double American exports over the next five years. But China?s growth economy is slowing down, while Europeans are announcing austerity programs from London to Athens and all points in-between. If the world is contracting, who's going to buy all the stuff we plan to export? And then there's the question, "

I just stole a POP 1 NGC SMS MS69FT Roosevelt Dime

This was a once in a lifetime chance It was 10:30 pm 7-30-2010. I was searching through ebay, when I came across a seller selling a roosevelt dime 2010-D NGC SMS MS69FT . I paused for a quick second, knowing that they just came out. I know I needed it for my registry. I almost fell out of my bed when I seen the price he was asking was 99.00 with free shipping or best offer. He had the description and the picture was not in the NGC case yet. In his description he gave the certification number. I

All columns not working right. I'm generally pleased with the site upgrade... However, I added the mintmark and composition columns to my collection manager. The mintmark column has ALL (both) the info in it. Mintmarks and composition are all in the mintmark column. My eagles don't show the mintmark, they all just say EAGLE?? The composition column is all blank, there is no way to put any info in this column anywhere that I can find??? Some of the mintmark columns have the mintmark, other colu

New variety keeps me interested in 1921 Morgans

In looking for clashed coins a few weeks ago, I found some interesting coins from 1921-S. One in particular was a keeper... I am a collector of clashed Morgans when and where I can find them. The stronger the clash, the more likely I am to be quite interested in it. I was recently looking at some clashed coins in the 1921 date and came across one rather interesting. First of all, I should point out that strong clashing on coins is not generally found in the 1921 coins. There are a few here of
