The wait is over!!

Got to add a new monster Roosevelt to my collection!! I found a coin listed on Heritage and I knew that I had to have it. I asked a friend to view the coin to make sure it was everything I thought it was from the pictures. He confirmed what I had already thought. Heritage doesn't also have the best pictures so I always like to get a in-hand opinion when I am going to be bidding on any coin over $200. After I decided that I was going to bid on the coin, I went down to a local coin store where I

Changing Gears With Yet Another goal...

My duplicates could finance a small war... a very small one.. Greetings Collectors, I am waiting on todays mail to arrive thinking my 1847-O $10 Liberty will come. I have so many sets that are in need, it's makes little sense to buy a gold coin of this cost that fits practically nowhere. I used the justification that I did not own a $10 from the New Orleans mint. Once I made the purchase I thought to my self that this coin could be the start of yet one more mint set. (like I really need to s

First Round Of Grading Results

3 70's Hello all, Well, my 13 coin submission is on it's way "home to papa". I am really pleased with the results, I can't wait till I get the package, so I looked here. I thought both Franklin commem proofs would be PF70UC, and one was and the other was a 69UC. Not too bad I guess, 1 out of 2. All the others were pretty much as I expected, but the icing on the cake were Mint State Bald Eagle dollar and the proof Bald Eagle half. Both came back as 70's, so I can sure live with only one of

Waiting, Watching, Looking & Buying...

Is there no end to the "Madness"? Greetings Collectors, Since my last post where I was crying about having a "problem", well it's confirmed. I do. And you know what? I don't give a rats a--. As long as there is electricity on at the house, gas in the trucks & Heaven forbid, the major auction houses are still in business, well, I'm fine. I just finished posting a few more pics to several gallerys and wanted to share several of the latest aquisitions. I picked up the coin you see picture

The Results-New white Tuxedos

Oh , tell me I didn't do it again. I just rejoined the Registry for another year so I had the five free submissions to send in and what did I go and do? I went down to the bank box and got out 5 ANACS grade Ireland coins to cross over into NGC slabs. That wasn't the problem. Instead of doing a crossover and making sure that they'd come back a certain grade or at least in the ANACS slabs, I went and cracked the out and sent them in as raw unslabed coins. Doing that always scares the hell out of

My First Coin

I have been researching gold and silver coin collecting for several weeks and finally made my first purchase I made the purchase on Ebay on July 6th, 2010. I won the bid at $25.15 with $3.99 shipping. A little pricy on the shipping but it was worth it overall. According to numismedia, the coin is worth almost $3 more than I paid for it. I can't wait to get it into my hands! Super cool! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

I have run into a logjam. I want the others. APB on them. I am attempting to get all of the 29 1987 G$10 MS 70's. There are 5 from PCGS and 24 from NGC, I have 15 of the NGC's and none of the PCGS'ers. So, if any of you kind folks see one, let me know if you would please. Capt. Satin Woes and Challenges

These coins are new and beautiful, but are they going to be worth collecting? I have been working on putting together a Lincoln MS/SP69 set for about 6 months. My budget per coin has been $50.00 and , as low as that is, I have had pretty good success. The 2005's, for example, came in well below that mark, as well as the 06-P. I have acquired quite a few of the 09's using that yardstick with a little more footwork. I am confident that I can finish the 09's without breaking the budget too much.

Happy 4th of July!

The ideals of Freedom on our coinage. As a youthful 17-year-old collector in 1975, I remember my excitement over the Bi-centennial coins commemorating 200 years of independence. At that time in our history, these coins had raised quite a stir, since the only collector products available from the mint were the annual proof and uncirculated sets. As far as silver coins were concerned, the 40% silver clad proof and uncirculated Eisenhower Dollars were the only coins available to the collecting p

1829 Quarter Eagle ($2.5) 3004 minted AU55

Great collector coin up for sale, does not fit my group I have for sale, the 1829 Quarter Eagle I had graded... Looking to sell or trade it. I am looking for some 1997 Platinum $100 Eagles PF70. Or anything over $15000. I would take also some 1997 Gold $50 Eagles PF70's. I would want at least an even trade. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 20th Anniversary Edition Silver American Eagle Collection

The first 20 years of the most beautiful coin in the world. The American Silver Eagles I am working diligently completing my 'polishing up' of my sets, pictures, and discriptions of my collections. It will take a while. I know there are some pictures here that need to be cleaned up, and I will get to it ASAP, but enjoy as I have them for now. I also just aquired 42 more ASE's for my stash, and I just can't get enough. The last 42 are not grading coins, just believe in silver. HAVE FUN

Submission Update

13 coins in quality control Things are looking up! The registered package that was floating around in Chicago has been received by NGC!!!!!!!!!!!! I was starting to worry, but now my worry can be what grades will I receive. :-) I have high hopes for my 1883 Carson City Morgan dollar. I bought it raw because it looked so good. I sure hope the graders agree with me. My 13 coin submission which was received on the 24th of June is in Quality Control. I'm hoping for at least 2 70's, I thought both

Collecting frenzy

Live and learn I had purchased a few coins from a local comic book store and being new to collecting i was in a frenzy and still am to be honest about it, anyway mu first purchase was a decent one i think. It was a 1996 silver eagle, and a really nice one at that, which i havent been graded yet but it should bring ms66 or 67 or so for $55.00 not too bad for a beginner! But the next coin i got took on. The lable said 1980-O but after i scrached the price sticker away from the date it reveal

Ever wished you could "Go Back in Time?

Duhh.. Dumb question...Would it be this bad if I collected "comic books"??? probably... Greetings Collectors, All this "Gold Fever" that has been sweeping the world got me thinking about the past. I started collecting in the early-mid 60's and even still have a "Red Book" from that period. My two most valuble coins at that time was a 1916-D Mercury dime AG-3 and an 1810 over 9 Classic Head Large Cent in XF-45. The former was lost in time and the latter I still own. I remember the large cent

Why not modern sets from other country's???

More fun for collectors and more coins to grade for NGC!! I have been collecting coins since I'm 12, but I'm new at sending my coins for grading. I really enjoy The registry, but it would be fun to have more modern competitive sets from country's that have quality mints. I collect coins from Royal Mint, Monnaie de Paris, New Zealand Mint, Spain, Italy, Germany... I think it would be a win-win, to add those sets, more fun for interrested collectors and more coins to grade for NGC. Just a

Buy Gold & Silver NOW!

Buy it at any time & in any form! JUST BUY IT... Greetings Collectors, In the past I have posted several journals about the wisdom in buying gold and silver. All of you see & hear the commercials on TV & radio about this. I posted a journal on 3/19/09 with the same title. Afterwards there were those who said that at $950 gold may have gotten a little ahead of itself and the better time would have been several months prior when it had corrected back to $750-$775. I then made anoth

Wow! What A Week Since Last Thursday!!!

Lighting is KEY! A week sure has made a difference for me. Last Thursday I sent 2 5-coin submissions for grading. The only bad thing is NGC hasn't received them yet, our local postmaster told me Friday that the Chicago registered mail office (facility?) is moving, and that's where he thinks the package is. Let's hope he's right, as (of course as my luck would have it) this submission is most valuable. Then on Monday, I sent a 13 coin submission which NGC has in the "Received" status. I'll try

When to release a coin that has ben sold from the registry

Dont sell registered coins! This is my first journal but after reading a journal about a transaction I was involved in I felt like sharing an opinion. They question came up about when you should release a coin from your registry? I purchased a coin on Ebay, paid for it (which was reported incorrectly), and then registered it. It came back as registered to another ownwer. That owner did not want to release the coin until he had shipped it and received feedback. My opinion is that if you lis

One Cool Coin

An 1860-O half-dollar with a fascinating pedigree. I have often wondered how coins minted decades ago found their way into my collection. I try to imagine who might have spent the coins in my collection and for what purpose the coins were used. I enjoy speculating on every place my coins may have been and the circumstances that caused them to be removed from circulation after many years of use. With coins directly purchased from the mint this sense of romantic charm is lacking. Not that I do

low-end coin price crash?

Is this a leading indicator for a double-dip recession? Bullion prices are strong. High-end coins are still setting new records. But lesser coins are going for next to nothing. I was watching a few coins on Ebay last weekend. Some NGC-slabbed, modern Lincoln Memorial Cents in MS went for about 15% of their Numismedia value. (I didn't bid, maybe that's why!) Check out this live auction from last week (http://www.proxibid.com/asp/catalog.asp?aid=29454). I don't have a 2011 blue book yet
