AU-58 but it may be due for a crack out!
I just bought and received the below NGC AU58 Liberty Quarter Eagle. Can you believe such a nice coin gets only 631 points?
I think this one may actually have a chance at a higher grade.
I've had a free membership here since 2008. During that time I've mostly used it for reading in the chatrooms. Lately, I've started to add some sets.
My bio states that I've been assembling a collection of Post WW2 proof and mint uncirculated US coins. With over 1400 coins the question arises 'how am I doing'? Well, a current count from my database says I have 1140 coins with 1080 unique uncertified and 60 certified.
Now I have to answer a big question. Do I want to commit the money to
An unexpected solution to aesthetics problem.
I have two things to admit;
1. I bought my first certified coin only about a year ago.
2. I like to shop at Thrift stores.
Wow, I am glad I got that off my chest.
Seriously, though, one thing I am pretty good at is using common things in uncommon applications.
I am always on the lookout for nice notebooks at thrift stores. My first was a green denim thing that was bullet-proof and passingly presentable. I keep my 2X2 raw coins in them. I
In a take-off from an old Clint Eastwood movie, my first impressions of the new Collector?s Society website.
Before I get into the details of my first impressions of the new Collector?s Society website, let me say that I am generally impressed with all the new features. However, as with anything of this scale there are a few irksome quirks to go along with the bells and whistles, thus the title of this post.
First the good; I love the new expanded collection manager and the ability to catal
Site Update - They are paying attention!
I'm inpressed with how NGC has been quick to reapond to feedback on the new site layout. When the new site first came up this week, only five sets were displayed on the Control Panel and the rest were accessed by scrolling. There was no direct link to the list of competing sets from the Control Panel. Both of these have been fixed / improved; now all 16 of my sets are displayed (no scrolling) and I can go directly to the category list to see where m
I'm here to save the day!
I recently changed my user name, my handle, on this site. I read through my last journal entry again and the name instantly came to mind. The short story is that I was watching two different coins from the same seller and I bought the wrong one.
My approach to most things in my life has been with excitement, zeal, adrenalin and testosterone. I find something I am interested in and I jump in with both feet... most times without looking.

Again, only 4,240 minted of this little sweety!
I appreciate the opportunity given to me to acquire this coin.
So Lionel, here's to you!
Not the best image I've taken but not too bad either.
Please forgive me for my post yesterday
Hi everyone, I just want to say sorry for my post yesterday. I work graveyard and yesterday was the first night of the week, I was tired and grumpy. I should of went right to bed yesterday and played around with the site today "LOL".
Well, I got my rest and in a better mood today. I've been messing around with it this morning and I really like it! The one feature I really like is being able to add coins that don't belong to any registry. It also se
All I have to do is LOOK!
I have been looking to add to my SP69 Satin Lincoln set and I had several bookmarked on eBay. I also collect Kennedys and there were several of those on my watch list also. It so happened that one seller had an 2007-P SP69 Lincoln that I needed for my set, but he also had an SP69 Kennedy of the same year. Same seller, same grade, same strike. DIFFERENT COIN!!!!
You have probably figured it out by now. Yeah, I bought the wrong coin.
I contacted the seller and he w
I like the new features (so far) but have a couple of nit pics!
Hello all,
I meant to write a grading update journal entry before the site upgrade; I'm really glad I waited. I've been checking things out tonight and do not have any major complaints (so far). However, I do have a couple of nit picks, but must say first, they're nit picks only in the respect of how I like to see my coin info.
I'll give a specific example, just in case NGC would like to help out (HINT HINT) :-). I currently h
The new website for NGC..
I like it so far. Was having a little bit of difficulty in the beginning, with loading etc, but seems it is flying low, and rising. (kinda like gold)Anyway, I seem to be getting the hang of it, and can offer no suggestions.
Good move so far. Have to inspect several areas yet.
Thanks NGC

I posted a couple of issues here and within 2 hours was contacted by NGC.
Ironically, I am a software tester by trade (at this time in my career). So after I posted my comments Dena contacted me.
She asked a few specific questions and then a few hous later I heard from her again. That some of the issues have been fixed or are being looked into on.
I later reported a few more issues and they are working to resolve them too.
So instead of person_without_enough_empathying about the change,

Greetings Collectors,
I'm in my mid 50's and really don't like change, even more so when I think the change is not an improvement. The change here along with the "So Called" "Change you can believe in" we all had to swallow a little over a year and a half ago are not changes I like. In fact I will go so far to say I "dislike" both, one a whole lot more than the other. But having said all that, the change at NGC here, I am going to save "strong c
Why fix something that wasn't broken?
This new update isn't what I expected. The pages are very plain looking and not that easy to use ( too much junk you don't need) and it hangs up ( all I see everytime I click on something is "WORKING" then hangs up)
Please bring it back to the way it was ( it was fun to use then not anymore)
Does anybody out there feel the same?
Happy collecting, Jimmie

Cant see all of the columns in Competitive Sets. No rt/lt scroll bar.
I don't know where to send my problem but the new Competitive Sets area has an up/down scroll bar but not one to go left right.
So far, I don't like this change. All of my sets were viewable at one time, now I have to scroll. IMHO, this is a step backward.
Then when I saved this Journal, an error was thrown but the Journal posted anyway.
I recently received an email from a Registry member offering me the coin!
Recently, I received an email from a Registry member asking if I would be interested in an 1890 Half Eagle graded XF45 by PCGS as he was upgrading to a better grade. At first I was a bit wary of the offer, but as I conversed with the member, I became comfortable with the idea of the deal.
So with my auctions closed on eBay and the hammer prices of my sales exceeds the $$ value of the 1890, tomorrow the deal will be com

Greetings Collectors,
I drove up to Brunswick Ga. this morning to attend church with my girlfriend, grabbed a bite to eat and returned home. I have had my two boys (14 & 13) for most of the last couple weeks and did a couple trips with them as well but have been hitting the auctions piece-meal as most of my time with them have either been in the water or in the country at my dads. The older one was tired of dad already so he went home last
GONNA BE A LONG TIME TIL I ADD ANOTHER COIN
Well, they are all in the pot. About 14 of them were without slots, so I will have to get on my knees and beg Amy to get me some slots and new sets. I know they are backed up with requests, as mentioned before but I have a bunch of orphans that want to join the party.
Enjoy looking. I will clean up descriptions and pictures as time permits. (this is like painting the Golden Gate, never finnished.)
Happy coining

Found a China coin I really want. One was for $1800.00 and one was for $450.00! The $1800 was way out of my buget, but the $450 I felt I was in for a killing. I was KILLED alright, when it was received, it was a MEDAL MS-69. not Panda MS-69.
I purchased a Franklin Proof-66, after the purchase I looked again PROOF! I didn't want a Proof I wanted a MS!
Shows want happens when you get to much on your plate! I just have to take my time from now on!

I love to search coins. I try to get my stock locally, but we only receive Denver coins (ancillary information; I did find two rolls of 2009-D nickles the other day at my local 7-11. Be nice to those people and they will hook you up!). I use eBay mostly to get my Philadelphia coins and have had pretty good luck getting them relatively cheap. Go with the Brinks-wrapped (shrink-wrapped) rolls and they will almost give them to you.

and I am very happy with the grades.
This last submission is by and far the fastest turnaround I have ever witnessed from NGC. I sent out 10 Boy Scouts comms on Wednesday, July 14th and the USPS showed delivery to NGC on Friday the 16th. NGC listed the coins as "received" on Monday the 19th. I then received NGC's e-mail stating that my coins are in the mail back to me on Thursday the 22nd!! From the time I put the coins in the mail to NGC returning them back was only 9 days! It is probably goi
What would you call this error?
I just received two $250 boxes of SAC 2010 dollars. I have only gone through a few rolls and already found 6 of these error coins on the reverse. May not be worth much but sure is fun when you find something new!

Man, I'm getting a cramp from typing...
Photos are driving me to the nuthouse, but I keep finding the mistakes I am making,so getting easier and quicker at adding coins to the registry. With working, and fending off tropical storms, chores and a few etc's, I hope to have all the coins entered by Sunday evening... Very happy with NGC's effort to find all the info I need to know all there is to know about these coins, each has a pedigree and a wonderful history, from artwork to the path each c
