My First Gold Coin

and the survey says? Howdy Friends, Just added the 2016 W 1/10 oz. Gold 100th Anniversary Mercury Dime to my collection. Beautifully struck coin especially the reverse which exhibits very crisp detail. Apparently the next two releases for this set will be the gold Standing Liberty Quarter and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Sadly they will be out of my price range but I'm very pleased to add this little gem to my hoard as my first gold coin. Also would like to pass on a thank you to our

New Kennedy's

Mint State and Proof Howdy Friends, Just added two new coins to my Kennedy registry a 2014 D MS68 from Datentype one of my favorite eBay sellers and a PF70UC 2015 S Clad. Had some issues registering the Clad and a commemorative silver dollar but the customer service folks at NGC took care of things in a few days now all my coins are showing up in their sets, valid for their slots and with points assigned. Also added three coins that complete the run of 8 Olympic coins that start the Modern

2014 Kennedy 50th Anniversary Set

Just arrived Howdy Friends, I just received my Kennedy 50th Anniversary Set in PF70 and SP70 condition. I worked up a collage of all four coins showing the obverse and reverse of each. It's a good looking set that I am pleased to add to my Kennedy registry. I don't know if I will ever get the gold coin and I'm a bit disappointed that NGC added it to the set, but not much I can do about it. I had hoped to complete a full set until the gold coin was added, don't know if I will ever complete th

Kennedy, Franklin, Washington and Roosevelt Howdy Friends, Well, I have been busy tracking down examples for my Kennedy, Franklin, Washington and Roosevelt registries and have secured some nice upgrades and a few new additions for my sets. It does not happen often but lately it seems that every bid I post ends up winning and as a result I have 13 new coins to spread over 4 sets. I have listed each below with mintages and NGC population numbers just for fun. My proof Roosevelt registry rece

Happy Veteran's Day!

and my latest dedication Hello Friends, The latest addition to My Heritage Set is a modern commemorative the 2006 Benjamin Franklin "The Scientist". In particular for the dedication, the reverse of the coin contains a representation of the famous political cartoon published by Benjamin Franklin featuring a dismembered snake with the motto "Join or Die". In 1775 he addressed the following letter to the Pennsylvania Gazette, signed "An American Guesser". "The Rattlesnake as the Symbol of Am

Early Silver Kennedy's get an adjustment

in value and registry points. Howdy Friends, Well, the early silver and SMS Kennedy's finally got an adjustment to their value and points. The conditionally rarest of my early Kennedy's is a 1965 SMS MS67 Cameo example that is now valued at $750 and sports 1450 registry points. I've always felt that coin was the best of my early Kennedy collection and I'm pleased to see it raised to its proper place relative to other coins in the my set. High grade SMS Cameo's in any denomination are very

My Latest Lincoln Cent

for my 20th Century Type Set Howdy Friends, I just received an upgrade coin for my 20th Century Type Set, a 1955 S MS67RD NGC Top Pop Lincoln Wheat cent which is the first mint state wheat cent in my collection. I started photographing it right away and put a presentation together then tried to register it. Unfortunately the coin is still registered to a prior owner so I'll have to wait a bit longer for it to show up in my set. Some notable facts about this coin are its Top Pop condition,

Snagged two nice specimens

One in Oregon the other in California Hello Everyone, This past Memorial Day weekend I was able to make a few coin purchases while fishing for Spring Chinook on the Rogue River in Southern Oregon. If any of you have ever tried buoy fishing its great fun but there can be periods when the fishing is slow and you've told all your whooper fish stories, eaten all your snacks and are half dozing off when all of a sudden your reel starts to scream, it's pretty hilarious. In this case we caught a W

Another Classic Commemorative

The Story of an Oregon Pioneer Hello Friends, The 1926 Oregon Commemorative is another of the classic silver commemorative half dollars that I have coveted for inclusion in 'My Heritage Set". I was excited to discover an Oregon Pioneer in our family tree who traveled the Oregon California Trail between 1862 and 1864. The Oregon Trail Memorial Association, Inc. of New York petitioned Congress to authorize the minting of the Oregon Commemorative to help fund the placement of monuments at lo

2013 W American Silver Eagle

and the real thing. Hello Friends, This past week I received a wonderful 2013 NGC PF70UC Silver Eagle and I've been thinking about taking photos for my registry and hadn't decided to post one to the journals but as it happened this morning while at work I noticed a bald eagle in a cottonwood tree scoping out a section of the Applegate River. The Steelhead are in the river right now and this eagle has the perfect perch to spot carcasses floating downriver that gather in an eddy right under

My first Classic Commemorative

The 1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary silver half dollar Hello Friends, This commemorative has been high on my want list for the representation of my ancestor William Bradford on the obverse but the Mayflower on the reverse of this coin compelled me to buy if for my custom set called "My Heritage Set". It's a very nice example with wonderful purple toning on the reverse that I especially like. There are some contact marks to the obverse on the hat and cheek but I'm still very pleased with it and at

Follow up on slot score increase

for Silver MS and PF Kennedy's Howdy Friends, I received a reply to my inquiry regarding the increase in points for the 1992 S PF slot in the Kennedy half dollar registry. It went from 119 to 2750 points over the weekend so I sent off an inquiry to NGC asking if this was correct or an error. This morning I received two reply's that they have been making adjustments to the Kennedy registry lately and that there is no error. So, I thought to check back on the history tab to find the others a

Slot point increase

Must be a mistake Howdy Friends, Just noticed I have almost a three thousand point increase to my registry ranking and after looking into it I found the 1992 S slot in my Kennedy Registry increased by 2631 points. I sent off a inquiry to NGC asking them to look into the issue. Also got an increase in points for the 1970 S slot as well but a more reasonable increase of 85 points for a star designated example. saw a similar issue last week with the Eisenhower mint state registry must be a s

To a few of my registry sets Howdy Friends, Acquired a few coins this past month for my Kennedy and Special Mint Sets of which the last arrived today. It's an upgrade for my Complete Kennedy Set and replaces a PF67 Ultra Cameo with a PF69 Cameo example. I also acquired a 1973 D MS66 Kennedy and the three SMS cents for my 1965-1967 Special Mint Set registry all graded MS67RD by NGC. I've wanted to fill the Roosevelt Dime slots in the set with FT examples and just acquired a fine 1966 SMS MS

This coin is registered to another owner....

with a different twist. Howdy Friends,   Has this happened to you recently? It's been awhile for me at least until today while at work I received an email from NGC that another person had registered a coin I won at auction about 3 weeks ago and that NGC would remove the coin from my registry and transfer it to the new owner and mark it as sold in my collection manager. Then there some links available given a choice to either reject or accept the transfer request. An explanation as to the re

Added more Kennedy's

4 to be exact Howdy Friends, Added 4 Mint State Kennedy's to my set this weekend and just finished uploading the photos. I received them while celebrating my 23rd wedding anniversary at a lovely river home on the Rogue River here in Southern Oregon. I didn't mention to my wife that I was expecting coins in the mail and I was a little worried about leaving them in the mailbox for three days but my sweetie brought them along for me. I spent some relaxing time and registered them with my smart

Found Five MS Kennedy's in the mailbox today

nice.... Hello Friends, Well, the last couple of months have been very eventful with many new additions and changes to my registries. I had three different Kennedy Half Dollar sets going at the same time, the 1964 to 1970 Silver Short Set along with the 1964 to Date PF and MS sets. It seemed to happen pretty quickly but has actually taken 6 years to get to the half way point. Recently, I have been considering some changes to my registry that would better reflect the series I'm actively colle

MS66 just arrived Howdy Friends, Researching my family tree is one of my favorite hobbies, next to coins of course. When I come across new information that I can attribute to a coin it's always a rush and today I found an interesting tidbit researching the Son's of the American Revolution (SAR) memberships in my family tree. I have a custom set called "My Heritage Set" that consists of coins I have dedicated to ancestors by date and or theme, so whenever I acquire a new coin that can be att

Four Coins Hit the Mailbox Today

it was stuffed with coins. Howdy Friends, I love it when I get home from work and the mailbox is stuffed with coins! I can't wait to start taking photos and putting together a write up for the journals. I acquired the following coins over the last couple of weeks and they all hit at the same time, sweet! First is a 2012 S Star Spangled Banner graded by NGC in PF70UC which is the first addition to my Modern Commemorative Proof Set in many months and a coin I have wanted since NAS Fallon Fi

A Father's Day to Remember

one for the books! Howdy Friends, This past father's day weekend was one for the books! My son, grandson and my brother and I were in San Francisco and attended the SAturday and Sunday rounds at the US OPEN. We stationed ourselves at the top of the 18th grandstand for Saturday and on the 7th & 8th greens just off the 9th tee box for Sundays round. Having my boys with me at The Open on Father's Day was everything I hoped it would be. Leading up to the trip I had considered looking for a

You are the best of us!

Happy Memorial Day Howdy Friends and Veterans, Wanted to take the opportunity to extend my thanks to all the Veterans here at the Collector's Society for your service and I wish you all have a safe and wonderful holiday with your families and friends.   In 1967 my Mother remarried to a Marine stationed in Kaneohe and within a year he was serving in Vietnam for the first of two tours and when he returned to us after the second, he was a totally different person. My First Wheat Back Cents!

arrived after a great day on the river! Howdy Friend, Well, it's been a great couple of spring days here in my part of the Oregon country and my neighborhood is buzzing with weed eaters and lawn mowers. I started the racket as soon as the sun hit the grass trying for some significant completion so I could take a river dinner trip in the afternoon. Had lots of fun and enjoyed a wonderful 4 hour 36 mile jet boat ride on the river with my wife, brother in-law and some friends. We saw tons of wi

Proof sets

are a great way to collect coins I normally don't. Howdy Friends and fellow collectors, Silver proof coins have held my attention for the last few years and as my collection of these coins has grown my appreciation for other coins of the era has also. I love proof coins, especially 1950-1964 Franklin & Kennedy half dollars but I have wanted to collect some of the other coins for some time so I started a collection of proof Quarters and Dimes and recently completed the 1964 proof set. My Presidential coins

and other relations Hello Friends, It is believed over 100 million Americans can show that, at least one President of these United States resides in their family tree and about 20 million can claim an ancestor who arrived on the Mayflower. It amazes me that I fall into both of these groups of Americans. One interest that can keep me away from my coin collecting addiction is researching my family tree that shows our DNA's journey from Europe to North America to Hawaii, that side being the Cau
