one for the books!

Howdy Friends,

This past father's day weekend was one for the books! My son, grandson and my brother and I were in San Francisco and attended the SAturday and Sunday rounds at the US OPEN. We stationed ourselves at the top of the 18th grandstand for Saturday and on the 7th & 8th greens just off the 9th tee box for Sundays round. Having my boys with me at The Open on Father's Day was everything I hoped it would be.

Leading up to the trip I had considered looking for a coin shop to fill a glaring hole in my ASE set while I was in the Bay Area but as it turned out I didn't have the time. I thought it would be nice to commemorate my first US Open by filling the 1998 silver eagle slot in my proof ASE set. As it happened, on the way to get the shuttle at Candlestick Park on Sunday morning I got an alert on my phone that an auction for a 1998 proof silver eagle was going to end during the tournament. Since they didn't allow cell phones on the course I wouldn't be able to track the bidding so I decided to put a max bid on it just in case and hope for the best. After making it back to Candlestick Park after the tournament I turned on my phone, low and behold I had won the auction. I have been after a 1998 silver eagle for a few months and winning that coin during The Open capped off a really terrific day!

These are some of the best days, when I can enjoy my boys, my golf and my coins.

Four...
