So, Who's the Bozo?

I have been working on my Lincoln Satin (ms69) set for some time, but did I pay too much? I just picked up the last 2009 Lincoln Satin MS69 coin for my registry set!! I now have all 8 of them. I paid $75.00 for the last one (09-P Presidency). I feel pretty good at this moment, and am continuing to look for the other Satins that I need (07-D, 08-D, 2010 P-D). OK, so I am poking around trying to find total mintages for the Uncirculated Mint Sets, AKA Satin sets, and I find this Bozo claimin

Loading up my first set of coins to registry.

Listing the first set of coins that I have purchased. I have one 1799 coin that the seller beleives to be fake. Soon, hopefully, I will have this coin certified. I am learning the in & outs of the NGC coin registry. Although I am new in this adventure, I do see how this benefit will be extremely helpful. Until I catch on to identifying quality coins, this progam will also be extremely embarassing since, it will identify guidebook values against purchased values. I have already seen so

LABELS, AIN'T GOT NO STINKING LABELS

HAPPY HOLIDAYS Congrates to KAMAKAZY on your set. Yes I am jealous, And I am listening to my ears buzzing now Seth. To cheer you all up there is a Christmas set of labels out now, so HO HO HO! There is the snowman and then the Christmas tree, next I don't know yet. But I won't be Scrooge and spoil it and say the brown labeled set is worth less. I think it is worth more down the road. I wish I could have got it I think it is terrific. Oh yes! I go by Eagles-R-it, not Eagles -R-fun, bu

American Silver Eagles - Coins or Bullion?

Glad to see all you American Silver Eagle (ASE) Folks had Fun with my last Post. I was curious to see if the American Silver Eagle (ASE) folks could find anything interesting to say in response to my last post. A few comments actually got the point that the U.S. Mint is churning out recycled images from the past to sell mountains of Silver and Gold bullion in the form of coins. The quality of the U.S. Mint ASE and American Eagle Gold coins is such that nearly all are Mint State or Proof 69/70

Collecting Coins

It's not what you do, it's who you are. Does your reason for collecting ever really change from when you started? I was 7 yrs. old, what did I really know about coins? What compelled me to want every wheat penny I could my hands on? Why did I tell my grandma and my aunts to buy me coins for Chtistmes presents? I don't know the answers to these questions and probaly never will. I remember when I was younger I wanted to be a banker so I could go thru every roll of coins that came into the bank,

I received a catalog from a coin firm in september for the new 5 coin 25 th set, they had pictures of the coins already slabbed with proof and mint state coins pictured, the 25th anniversary label graded 70 and a price tag of 4995.00. Thats right 2 months before release and nearly 5 yes FIVE thou.sand dollars, I consider myself lucky I spent three hours and was able to order two sets. Why the people at the mint dont use the list of people who have eagle s

American Silver Eagles - Why All the Love?

Borrowed Obverse and Dull Reverse - Can't You Find a Nicer Series of U.S. Coins to Collect? Seriously - why all the love for American Silver Eagle (ASE) bullion coins. For 25 years the U.S. mint has been banging out these same tired coins with the Obverse "stolen" or "borrowed" from the very nice Adolph Weinman Liberty Walking Half Dollar (1917-1947) and a dull reverse by John Mercanti of a heraldic eagle. Sure the reverse proof ASE is interesting but why all the fuss? Can't you simply collect

The trouble with "IKES"

Collecting high grade "IKES" is proving to be quite a challenge on a number of levels. Greetings and happy Thanksgiving, three months ago I started a mint-state Eisenhower Dollar set with a goal of acquiring coins that were no less than one grade lower than the highest graded coin. To date, I have collected 16 of the 23 coins in that set, with NGC graded coins accounting for ten of them. Comparing my coins to their respective population reports, I found 15 of them to be one grade lower than th

Time to go to School! Help Lincoln cent RPM's

HELP! Question about Lincoln Cent RPM's Good Evening, I am trying to learn. I have a few Lincoln Cents that are RPM's. I collect Lincolns (not to be confused with a true "collector") and am ashamed to say that I am completely unknowledgeable about these cents. I am asking fellow collectors to educate me a little. I have been doing some digging in my raw collection and ran across several nice finds. One of which is a group of RPM's. I have the following coins: all 1960D, toned but still red

Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Sets

Who shot, who scored and who threw up an airball? So, for the low low price of $300 one had the opportunity to purchase the 25th Anniversary Set of Silver Eagles from our beloved US Mint. That is, of course, if you had the direct dial number to one of your close friends who works at the Mint. I loved the part where a knucklehead at the Mint said, whoops sorry, we STILL have not upgraded our programs so if you missed out tough .....BUT we will get it ironed out next time. Didn't this hap

More Congressional Folly

Yet another commemorative that will never sell out. Folks, I just received my latest issue of NN and immediately latched onto an article about the latest commemorative coin series approved by Congress. This 3 coin set will honor the 75th Anniversary of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Now I have visited the HOF and found it, and the surrounding town of Cooperstown, to be historical and fascinating. But I cannot fathom why anyone would even consider buying the HOF commemoratives unless they ar

I couldn't resist....

I hated to do it... I'm getting ready to head out on vacation on Wednesday. Unfortunately, (Fortunately, really) I found a great deal on some coins I couldn't pass up, so I ordered them. Now, they'll be sitting at the post office for awhile waiting for me to come home. Oh well. Such is life. Happy Thanksgiving. May we all take a turkey nap! Happy collecting. Shipment of 25th Anniversary sets

Easy fellow collectors .... After reading all the concerned posting about NGC getting your boxes, felt I would ease your concerns. No I am not affiliated with the USPS in any way first off. When you ship something registered, it becomes a bonded item which means it is ONLY stored and handled in a BONDED area. (Under lock & key) Only a minimum personal will even handle your box, or whatever you sent. The masses are not exposed to your item. When it comes into the bonded area it is

MORGAN LOVERS!

i need some expert opinions.... I have been having an issue with an 1884-S Morgan Dollar I bought about 5 years ago before i even started collecting coins! Anyway, i bought this coin a while back for 45 dollars. The guy who sold it to me was going out of business and needed to push his stuff out the door. At the time i didne even realize it was a semi-key date, nor did i think it was AU. I just thought it was COOL! My issue is i have been thinking about getting it certified but i am afraid

It is finally time for RETIREMENT!!!

After 40 some odd years of hard labor (I am an IT Specialist) I finally get to go!!! One and 1/2 more weeks. I plan to put all of my coins here with pictures. I have a gazillion that I have collected over the years but couldn't do anything with them but put them in a box. The sad part is the budget will be tighter and I am going to have to narrow my choices. I don't care. I finally have freedom. I think that I will use some of the coins to support other collections. A night out on the town and a family COIN CONVERSATION???

It's hard to argue with the wife and daughter (across the table) at the same time. Friends, Well Friday night started out great with a pleasant meal at the Outback. My son sitting next to me, wife and daughter across the table. After the meal we started talking about my dauters college next year and a vehicle and out of right field from across the table "UP CAME THE COINS". I have split the coins up if something were to happen to me. My son is to get the Commemoratives, daughter will get
