100% was the goal
Hello everyone,
I just added the last two MS Eagles to my collection. I now have both sets at 100%. Here's hoping that 2012 will bring us only 2 coins. Did somebody say, 26th Anniversary set?
I'm outta here.
Happy Collecting
no extra points allowed
If you have noticed recently, NGC has added a slot for the 2011 Reverse Proof Eagle and also the 2011 S Eagle Mint State. If you have already added these coins from your set in the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagles Set you can add them to the Silver Eagles 1986 - Date Mint State and Silver Eagles 1986 - Date Proofs but you will NOT get any more points by doing so. So in essence you are filling a slot ONLY, with no points awarded for the coin. You would have to enter a c
Look an actual non-bullion U.S. Coin for a change with no "Special Label".
Just wanted to show some folks what an acutal Pre-1933 U.S. Gold Coin looks like in Superb GEM condition. One can only read so many journals about modern silver or gold bullion coins all grading 69/70 with "Special Labels". True this coin grades just MS 67 (Superb GEM) and has no special label, but less than 100 exist at this condition or better (NGC and PCGS combined) and this coin is almost 112 years old. This is a co

Today in the mail i received not one, but two packages! One was an NGC sample slab with the 1982-D Washington Commem. that i won off E-bay. its a cool slab. thats the only reason i bought it.
The second package was my daughters NGC graded 2011 25th Anniversary set which i bought from a fellow member of the boards! this gentleman was truly a great person! im not sure if he wants his name out there but he sold it to me for

Not totally gone but made just for us now
The government in its "wisdom" decided to stop the US Mint from producing the presidential dollars for general circulation. Souns like the dollars would still be made for the mint sets and the specially wrapped rolls in the white boxes. No more $1000 boxes. The government really has been another chance to stop making the dollar bill. The public would then start using the dollar coin which lasts up to 7 times longer than the paper currency. That wo

Hi All,
Recieved my 1923-S PCGS MS63 Monroe Doctrine Half Dollar in yesterdays mail. This is another addition to the 50% Is Good Enough set and is also another great example of first generation commemorative half boondoggery.
Obverse shows the conjoined busts of President James Monroe, and Secretary of State, John Qunicy Adams. The reverse depicts two female forms representing North and South America.
The Monroe Doctrine was promulgated President Monroe in
Not a real surprise
I can't remember the last time I used one of these to pay for anything Have a handful just sitting collecting dust. I think most numismatist probably saw this coming for awhile.

Why I ask is this level of grading and labeling increasing in price. I thought $17 was bad. Is it because we are all fools. Brown, blue it all the same. My coins whic
A great addition/upgrade to my collection!
Hello fellow coin collectors,
I would like to share 2 of my most recent purchases...the 2001 Buffalo Commemoratives. I am very happy to add both these 70 graded coins to my collection. They are upgrades to my 69s that I orginal purchased from the Mint. They are an awesome tribute to the buffalo nickles and the Mint real "hit one out of the park" with these commemoratives.
They are one of the most popular modern comms to ever be minted. The total a
18 out of 25 are........
18 graded 70 and 7 graded 69...
A little bugged about the reverse proofs but hard to complain!!!
I at least got a 70 set for myself and that was the main goal:)

Arrived today
My first 2 sets of the 25th Anniversary Eagles arrived today. Only entered the one set of course. That put me over the 70k mark for the year.
My first set all graded 70, my second set all graded 70 except the 2011, it graded MS69. So out of 10 eagles, 9 graded 70, 1 graded 69. Still holding the other sets for now till I decide what I want to do with them.
Good luck to all who are waiting for their grades.

Followup to my early posting about sample slabs.
OMG, I have been following a 1963 Roosevelt Dime in a PCGS Sample Slab until it closed tonight and the final winning bid was 167.50. Yes, that is 167.50 for an ungraded, but clearly UNC dime jsut because it is in a sample slab. That is so cool!!! I know my similar slab with a 1964-D Roosevelt is probably not as valuable but if there is a growing market for sample slabs, I will put that slab on the market as soon as the heat comes to 1964s as
A rhetorical ethical dilemma for the ages: What would you do if you found a similar hoard of ancient gold and silver coins-- or anything of similar value-- on the job? What would you do with such a thing that nobody even knew was there, and something that hasn't been seen in a millenium or two?
I caught this headline on AOL Welcome page when checking my email tonight. It certainly does beg the eternal ethical dilemma I pose above.
It also makes me green with envy: Why have I never worked
Processing of sets by NGC
I sent in my first sealed box set in on 11/25...it showed up in the online submission 12/2 as received. On 12/9 now shows as ready to be graded. Sent second box in (5 sets) on 12/7. I have signed UPS receipt showing delivery, but nothing online.
They're just backed up and overwhelmed right now. Most of us are pretty anal-retentive or we wouldn't be in a hobby like this......as frustrating as it is waiting for the coins to be done (Oh, please all grade out at 70's!!!

One more closer to the halfway point
Friends,
I picked up a very nice MS64 1936 York County Maine half yesterday by selling some more old stock at my local coin shop. For those of you unfamiliar with the York County commemorative, it is a perfect representation of why the first series of commemorative coins failed so miserably (Special Interests). The York half commemorated the 300th anniversary of York County, southernmost county in Maine, and is also the second commemorative issued, duri
Too many Eagles this year
Friends,
As the year started there was a good feeling as I added a MS or PF eagle to the two sets. By the time that the mint offered the no mint mark Sanfrancisco coin I was frustrated. But having the full set I went for the coin anyway. The minting of the bullion without the mint mark just made no sence to me. And now here at the end of the year we have the 25th Aniv. set = a must have for collectors of these bullion COIN issues.
I tried to order mine but that d
